Ah thanks, man. Maybe I should charge an admission fee and open it up to the public. LOL. Completely kidding of course. I seen collections that could drown mine but I'm pretty happy with what I have.
@@GQJedi I've seen collections bigger than yours too but presentation is more important to me than volume, I'm personally more impressed with a really nice display where the figs are in little vignettes that reflect the source material than a giant cluttered mess that doesn't allow each piece to shine on its own.

I restored all my ships as well. Salon care 40 and a lizard UVA light from petsmart brings these back to new. Since I had to use reproduction stickers anyway with my X wing, I opted to make it red 5 and not red 3.

Agree 100% on not putting the vinyl capes on figures in vehicles.
That's sorta kinda why I bought an Obi-Wan (show) retro style Vader, so I can display it in a TIE Adv.
I do the same thing as you do, the Imperial officers and AT-ST drivers don't get a gun.
So, in a sense, those figures are complete.
I don't see the need to go after the weapons for AT-ST drivers anyway, especially since the Endor Leia blaster is so damn expensive.
For those people who don't want to stretch out Dengar's hand having him hold his own rifle, what I do is put a Bespin blaster in his hand and put the Dengar/snowtrooper rifle on his back.
The handle fits between the hand and the leg and the other handle over the shoulder.
It works with some figures.
It's sort of a Kenner hack I discovered. I love the way it looks on TIE pilots. :)

Agree 100% about the decals. As long as they look good and satisfy the collector’s aesthetic and display, then who cares? It should elicit the same emotional response when viewing.
Right? If they are Your toys that you plan on keeping, then you should do what makes you happy. End of story.
I think there is a certain mindset that reproduction anything Kenner Star Wars somehow devalues all Kenner Star Wars items, including somehow their own collections. It’s really weird though because reproduction stickers don’t seem to be a big deal to folks collecting vintage GI Joe or transformers. I also restore 80s and 90s arcade machines and the general consensus among that community is that it’s best to keep things original if possible, as things can only be original once, but if that’s not possible then you use reproduction. Let’s face it, these paper Kenner stickers are the first thing to go. I just wish that there were good quality screen printed options out there.
I agree. The SW collecting community is super hard core and a bit overboard when it comes to these toys. Especially the repro debate. It's laughable. Zac Paris on Ebay is the best I've seen when it comes to repro decals for Kenner Star Wars.
@@GQJedi I’ve heard his stuff is great. I’ve bought mostly from this guy out of Kansas City, just because I didn’t want to wait for shipping from Australia. I think this guy uses a cricket to cut the decals. His stuff is pretty good, but your always going to be able to tell the difference between a print from an inkjet or laser printer vs an old school screen printed item. They are way better then a half rotten sticker though that’s for sure. I’ve tried all sorts of ways to save these vintage stickers myself. Cleaning them with lighter fluid only takes you so far. I’ve even tried applying a layer of wax from birthday candles to them (google make wax paper) and you just can’t save them most of the time. NOS stickers rarely come up and when they do they are insanely expensive. I get their point on reproduction guns to a certain degree, but I don’t understand those points when it comes to perishable items like stickers or the replacement foam for the Dagobah playset and the Death Star trash compactor foam.
I hear you. Shipping times from Australia can be frustrating. For me I want to put things back into a pristine order by any reasonable means necessary and surely won't let other collectors plot my course of action. Not a chance. The weapons are tricky, you are right. I was just chatting with another collector about this very issue today. But as someone in the hobby you have to educate yourself on what you are collecting. The decals and foam though...get real. That's just nonsense to complain about sourcing those things out to complete a toy.
Some great suggestions. I know a lot of people frown on repro, but I put a repro cape on the Obi-Wan that I have displayed in my landspeeder, for the exact reason you mention here: I don't want to ruin a real cape by having it all crumpled up in the speeder for years and years.
Makes sense, Doug. Nice moves. Although you can absolutely straighten a real cape with hot boiling water, why bother when you can just use an alternative like you have done. I would have gone your route if I had an repro capes in my hands. To date I don't have any repro stuff except a few decals, playset foam and whatever pews come with the Stan Solo figures. But I like your thinking just the same. Protect the OG Kenner!
I think that's one of the best reasons to use repro.
I store all my vinyl capes separate from the figure so they don't get all messed up.
I don't see repro as that big a deal.
Hell, I made my own from an old lawn chair.
The vinyl on it was actually the perfect thickness AND color!
And my Obi-Wan looks great with it on. :)
I've rescued a very badly crumpled and ugly Vader cape - by gently ironing/pressing it under a Teflon sheet (on low heat) - it allows heat through but will not stick or melt the cape. I was stunned at how nice it came out. I only tried it as the cape was so badly damaged - but it worked out! I also cleaned it in warm soapy water initially to get rid on the grime and sticky residue from tape 'mending' - I left the tears/rips, but once it was flattened out with the heat they seemed to join back together (at least to the eye).
You know putting these capes in hot water will also loosen up the wrinkles. That much is true. Soapy water or even lighter fluid will take away most adhesives or junk like ink from plastics. Works wonders.
Ahh, with regards to the weapons, your unarmed 'Death Squad Commanders' (I think their actual designation is Imperial Navy Troops/Marines) - these guys were indeed armed in Star Wars, see the Detention Block sequence where Luke Han and Chewie rescue Leia and I think you see them coming out the back-door of the Endor Station to engage in battle (after being lured out by Han etc etc).

Finally found the time to watch this. I, too, have crossed over to the Dark Side of repro (and retro) figures. How can you not love the Stan Solo line? I also frequent Trash Compactor and the Next 17 on Etsy. I’m down to the last few Last 17 figures and/or weapons to round out the line, then on to the rarer ships, playsets, and body rigs. Fun video, brother!

Noticed the suction cup trick holding up Han in carbonite in your Jabba room. You didn't mention it, but I see it was a good trick (as long as it stays suctioned). I only have one, and its going to go in the prime figure display not with Slave I. Got a nice stand for it from Iain's stands not long back. I keep promising to get my stuff on display this year. Going to start with wall mounted cases for my prime figures. That should be happening soon. Turning the Wreck Room back into a Rec Room. It's suffered a decade and a half of neglect, but gradually restoring it a little each day. After that, I'll need a nice display cabinet for the playsets and vehicles. The trick is finding one to house lareg items like the Death Star and Ewok Village. The journey continues....

I find sometimes gel toothpaste works as well for cleaning and re-whitening figures.
I've never tried good ol Crest on any of my figures. Interesting.

I got the stan solo slave leia carded but the potf2 one on display.i got stans oola but went for the vc25 r2d2 with my original jabba.i see no reason not to mix them up and although I've not bleached anything yet, I have no problem in doing it.your display is stunning

Awesome collection. I think that red astromech at 20:08 was actually owned by the rebels. Maybe Industrial Automation made two of the same😆 I like your Slave 1 display. Going to copy it if you don't mind but also add Lando and Leia. My OG figure collection stopped at the 79 back series. I do have some reproductions of the last 17 and all 8 original Kenner Ewoks but not all 17 original Kenner figures. I don't even have original weapons on all my figures. I had an unhealthy obsession buying multiples of figures to get as many varieties as possible. That plus vehicles chewed up most of my budget so original weapons and accessories had to be sacrificed. I couldn't justify the cost of the battle wagon so I bought the Robin hood version. Just need to get a 3D printed skull because let's face it, the skull is what makes that vehicle so damn awesome.
I get it man. There's a lot to try and collect from the Kenner line. It certainly took me a couple years to track it all down. The Ewok Battle Wagon was one of the last pieces I acquired. And yes, that Skull does make the ride complete. I actually found a 2nd wagon that is missing the skull and the drum. That's it. Debating on whether to complete it or sell it off with some other Kenner stuff I have. Either way, I'm happy to have a complete one in my collection. I honestly really love the Ewoks! :)
@@GQJedi Same here. Have my fingers crossed that Stan Solo will one day give us some new Ewoks. Between the village, catapult, wagon and glider, eight Ewoks is not enough.
Man, I'm totally fine with new Ewok additions. But between you, me and the gatepost, I highly doubt it will ever happen. People either love or hate the Ewoks in any form. But anything is possible I suppose. Let's keep our fingers crossed anyway :)
I'd like to suggest 2 possibilities-
1. That back in 1978, a vinyl cape would have been much more pliable than how they are today.
2. They cut the cape for the box photo.
The vinyl capes are amazing but they do have their limitations to some degree. Honestly, I think they only get in the way for figures like these, when you are seating them into a vehicle or "sitting" position. Otherwise, I can see no fault with their production or effectiveness come "playtime".

The infamous Jedi Luke black gloves. LOL. Shhhh...don't tell anyone. Yes, my line is complete. But when things start to get a little too rough for my liking, I will opt to upgrade when necessary by any reasonable means.

Upgrading is so much fun. When it comes to my figures, I have upgraded countless times. There's a great feeling when you replace a C6 figure with a C8 or C9 figure.

So I have been doing a deep dive into displaying my figures. I am a 50 year old man, that has kept most of my figures over the decades, it's just now I am realizing I am in a place where I can actually display these things.
You have some of the best videos online, sure there are others, but they don't look like Aston Kutcher....lol
I just wanted to say I love your approach to collecting and displaying, you don't get bogged down into vintage this and that and channel your collection to what you want.
The risers are a game changer, so thank you for that. Turns out the guy that sells them, lives in the town I used to live in for almost 20 years...lol
Do you have any recommendations for displaying a Jabba the Hut if I don't have the one that came with the base? I was thinking just a flat black rectangle, made out of wood or plastic.
Curious what you might suggest? Tonight, I literally just dug my collection out of storage, and looked at some of my figures that I have not taken the time to look in in decades, well that is about to change. Many are going to need a good bath and brushing and of course now some de-yellowing. Again thank you for that.
I have two black bookshelves that I just purchased. They are up now, and I will start to prep my collection for display, hopefully this week. I am thinking about making some videos to show how I went from cardboard box to a full display. You have a lot of great stuff, I always had a lot of figures but not a lot of ships. I am looking to recapture some of the creatures, like the rancor that I regrettably sold about 2 years ago and I never owned the Wampa, so I am going to try to find those, without breaking the bank.

Stoked for you and your ever expanding/evolving collection. I personally like the way I have my Jabba displayed. But I've seen people build their own dioramas or order cardboard backdrops like the ones featured in my newest video. You really can't go wrong as long as YOU like it :)

Hey what peroxide paste did you use on the X-Wing?
I have a nice shuttle that has slight yellowing on the cockpit.
Hydrogen Peroxide Crème Salon 40 at any beauty supply store. Paint on with paintbrush or toothbrush and put outside in the sun.
With the landspeeder if I leave it with its wheels out on a surface will it wear the springs out? I’m just don’t want to damage it

In hindsight, Kenner really should have made replacement weapon packs. A baggy of rebel blaster, pop up sabre would have been good. But prob not that much money in it for them in reality.
Also, it would be good to see your thoughts on displays for ppl with limited space. I don't have a whole room free, and rotate mine round. I also don't have room to display ships etc, which is good for my wallet I guess 😀
Though I'm working on some stands/cases that will allow me to store and take out to display easily, and have some printed backdrops for them.
Kenner did make replacement weapon packs if I'm not mistaken. They also would ship kids accessory replacements if you lost yours back then. Any parts that were missing could be had for toys back in the day. You just had to mail them and tell them what went missing. Kenner Really Did Care! :)
My thoughts are this : Do what you can with what you have. Like all collecting, there is no official rule. You gotta work with what you've got. Plain and simple. Plenty of collectors swap out & rotate their collection pieces. It's the only way you'll ever see said items if you have limited real estate. It's what I would do. Luckily, I am not in said boat and have the luxury of displaying my whole collection with the exception of 3 pieces. The B-Wing, the grey Jabba Dungeon and my First 12 Action Stand. The rest of the entire collection is out in the open for viewing. Thank the Maker! I feel blessed.

@@GQJedi and didn't know about the weapons packs, but I didn't grow up in the states,and I know most mail away stuff was only available to the US. I know I could have used a few replacements back on the day!
On FB is a seller how ask for a Stormtrooper blaster 20 € a piece and he is selling a bunch of them. I dont now that the Blasters are de Vintage Kenner blasters from Back in the day. He is apperently not a Star Wars Kenner toys lover its for the money so sad People how don,'t care the Kenner Star Wars toys.
As long as you stay true to yourself, nothing else matters.
I don't have any problem with reproduction accessories completing a figure / vehicle / play set. An individual would've been on drugs to think that I'd hand over $150 dollars for a tiny vintage weapon. I'd rather spend that kind of cash on more figures.
One thing I won't ever do, is touch up the figures with paint. That's a step too far for me.
Personally, I'm also wary of the peroxide option. Who knows what kind of long-term damage it may do to the vintage plastic? Best be cautious and not try it, imo. It's not worth the risk. "Yellowing" can't be helped. These toys are old.

Yes, shelling out hundreds for a tiny weapon seems ludicrous. Yet it is a hobby and hobbies can be expensive. So it's all relative and you need to pick your battles. I haven't gotten into painting figures either. Customizing is cool but I'd rather track down a decent looking original Kenner fig than try to spruce it back up with paint. As for the yellowing, it's been awhile since I've done the method as have many other people. I don't see it damaging anything. But to each their own. And I doubt you guys will ever hear me sing again. LOL.
I agree on the peroxide method as it turns the red Imp. insignia orange or yellow on an AT-AT driver, for instance.

You right about the whole "yellowing" thing, even if you do get them kinda cleaned up the chemical breakdown of the plastic will eventually turn them yellow again anyway.
Yes the red insignia does turn yellow but that’s all that I’ve seen bad happen.

The Stan Solo Bantha is the best and only thing that even comes close to something that Kenner would have made. Not sure what you're looking at, guy.
