- In this video I review the real world results I've gotten with 6.8 Western and how it compares to 6.5 PRC and 7mm PRC. Is the 6.8 Western better than both the PRC cartridges? I think so!
Hornady and other ammo companies has done a huge disservice to the gun community by not supporting each other
Hornady shouldn’t “ban” a cartridge given they don’t like it. Given the number of cartridges they load for and and the bullets that don’t even matter anymore. 303 British really? And they can suck it enough to make a 170 grain .277 bullet. Holy shit the hubris is unbelievable
I wholeheartedly agree.. winchester and Browning are still manufacturing all PRC cartridges and chambering rifles for it. Hornady is a bit of a primadonna and I hope they reconsider.

A short action cartridge with less recoil, less powder and pretty much identical performance as the 7 PRC, what's not to love about it? Aside from the limited industry support, I mean.

The 6.8 Western outperforms the 270 Winchester, 270 WSM, 6.5 PRC and is a much more efficient cartridge than the 7 PRC. I have two, one for hunting and a heavy barrel for target. I am ready disappointed in all the name sayers slamming the 6.8 Western. It is absolutely a remarkable cartridge. A dream all around cartridge that is great for all North American big game.

@@derekmcmurry It should, but is by very little. And 6.8 Western is so much more efficient. Less recoil, lighter gun. The little extra velocity you get from a 270 PRC is insignificant. And 6.8 Western has factory ammo available. You do not. For the average hunter just get a 6.8 Western. There should be no one critical of the 6.8 Western unless they have shot it. It is a remarkable cartridge. Watch my words … 10 years from now it will be one of the most popular cartridges.
@@jw3946 Respectfully, I wasn't critical. I agree the 6.8 Western is a great but unpopular cartridge as of today, sadly. Regarding efficiency, well let's face it, in most common hunting situations, what can a 6.8 Western do that a 708 or 308 can't do in terms of filling a game tag? Nothing. RUclips has videos showing hunters filling elk tags with 700-800 yard shots. I'd say most game is taken inside 300. Efficiency, among many people, seems to be of little importance
At 3144fps, in a 24" barrel, the 270-7PRC with a 170 BVLD has better ballistics than a 7PRC with a 180 BVLD at 3000fps using Berger's ballistics calculator.

@@jw3946 I've got another K&P barrel, duplicate of the one I'm using now, and 2 Brux barrels on the way, same contour, twist, groove numbers. As you know each barrel will perform differently. I plan to see how each one does with all the same components since I can switch them out easily on this action. Had ADG announced early last year its intent to make brass for the 6.8 Western I potentially would have never wildcatted the 7PRC. That said, I saw the writing on the wall when Hornady came out with the 300PRC and I had already witnessed the popularity of the 6.5PRC. In fact, I remember posting a comment here on youtube shortly after 300PRC was gaining attention, that I was holding out for the 7PRC. And I did. I knew that case was the size I was looking for to make a 270 "mag" to my satisfaction. So far, I'm quite pleased. I'm considering finishing out one of my upcoming barrels to 26"
As far as factory ammo, I've been loading my own for a long time. Only time I've purchased factory ammo is for the brass, practice, or it's really cheap. I picked up 40 boxes of 30-06 Winchester ammo 2 years ago at a local grocery mart for $6.99/box, close out sale.
Love the channel, but Winchester and Browning are not the only rifle manufacturers out there with the 6.8W.
Christiansen Arms has a good selection, as well as Seekens Precision. Fierce also has rifles in the 6.8 Western. These are all $1,500 plus rifles, so we need to see another affordable manufacture to promote the 6.8 Western sales. Ruger, Savage, Tikka, CVA, Bergara, or another, that puts out sub $1,000 rifles. That would help bolster the sales and demand for ammo.

I really think that’s the missing link that would drive the ammo sales up. Winchester is the only manufacture that has a sub $1,000 rifle chambered in the 6.8W. I’ve heard mixed reviews on that rifle.
The 6.8 Western is such a terrific cartridge. It’s going to be really depressing if it dies out. Mine has surpassed all my other rifles. It’s the one I grab for all my hunts. It’s the perfect “all-around” cartridge.
I created my own brass out some 300wsm brass. Works great. I recently discovered maker bullets with a 160gr copper bullet. Using some magpro I was able to get 2900 fps from a 20 inch barrel with .5 moa at a 100 yards. I am glad I got my 6.8. Great video
I hope everyone buying the 6.8 reloads and can stock up on components…… Winchester failed when they decided to market a 270 that is a great round, but identifies, correctly, as a “Western” round… it’s not seeing enough interest nationally for others to jump into the development and tooling. IMO, Winchester missed when they didn’t ride the wave of the surging 300 WSM and didn’t focus on the 7 WSM which IMO could be the greatest “failed” cartridge missed on by hunters - definitely for Hunter-reloaders. It’s flexibility, increased if offered with factory reduced loads in the 139-160 range (7mm08), would’ve been desirable to those that didn’t want 28 Nosler recoil but close to performance with the efficiency of 30% less powder. The US as a whole loves the 30’s and it’s hard to break through with other calibers. Trying to take a percentage of the flooded gun market starts with developing a Swiss Army knife. I’m just not sure the 6.8 fits that with most of the US market.
Maybe something to ask, does the 7PRC suffer from the same issue that plagued the 7x57? A case design that falls between the short efficient cases and the full sized cases… the 7x57 from my knowledge had a reputation of being very powder specific to reach full potential because of its midrange case design. I’ve read articles in the past were propellant density had to be considered. A tad to big for some powders and a tad to small for others. With that in mind, if all things were equal and we had an endless supply of every powder we wouldn’t even notice. In today reality, it is glaring!!
As of right now the 6.8 Western is a great option if you are in the market for one of the rifles it is currently available in and if you mostly shoot factory ammunition. The rifles seem to be in plentiful supply and I've seen ammo at Bass Pro shops regularly. Right now prospective manufacturers are just playing the wait and see game to see if market demand is strong enough for them to get on board. I have found the 6.8 Western with the 165 ABLR factory load to be a wonderfully effective hunting round, and I'm sure the other loads are great as well. This is a high performance cartridge that has a very flat trajectory and is quite manageable in terms of recoil. It is more than worth considering if you are on the fence about buying one. I believe it will hang on and eventually we will see component brass become available. Until then, you can always reload your factory brass.

Key to 6.8 ownership, just like 270 wsm… buy a cheap reloading press, set of dies, a bunch of MAGPRO or similar burn rate, a boat load of large rifle primers (yes a joke) and you are done for a barrel life of shooting
The browning Xbolt Speer or hells canyon are great choices

A buddy of mine purchased the Browning X-Bolt Western Hunter that was on Sage at Sportsman’s Warehouse a few weeks ago for under $900. We took it out shooting last weekend and its accuracy was terrific. It had a smooth action and the trigger was crisp.
I still agree with you. I’d love to see Ruger, Savage, or CVA come out with the 6.8 Western. I picked up a CVA Cascade several years ago and it’s a terrific rifle. I think it’s the best buy on the market for sub $800 rifle. Tikka would be huge!!

ADG hasn’t produced it yet. I was emailed back from them a few months ago and they said it’s at the top of their list for new products. One of their dealers said that ADG plans on producing brass later on this year as a trial run to see how well it sells. My guess, and from what I’ve seen and read, there’s a demand for the 6.8 Western, and it’s going to sell very fast and push ADG to continue production of the 6.8W.
So anyone reading this, email ADG and request the 6.8W brass!!!

We all think that Hornady holds the keys to a 6.8W success and that they are suppressing it. And they are.
But consider what would happen if Lapua announced they are making 6.8W brass. That would be a game changer and more beneficial than anything hornady would do for the cartridge.
The 6.8W is a very impressive cartridge, but so is the 280AI. I consider the 280AI to be at the sweet spot center of balanced versatility. Take a 6.8W and neck it up to 7mm and shazam you have a short action 280AI… this would be a very interesting wildcat cartridge that might even catch the attention of the Fclass geeks… but only if the brass is Lapua.
Hashtag save the 6.8 Western… right?

Today’s world is hash tags and marketing. Browning is missing out on the moment in establishing their cartridge. As a rifle manufacturer I would place my bets on this cartridge and let the hunting culture come back in
ADG coming out with 6.8W brass in August according to podcast on their FB page. I expect Win/Browning could care less what Hornady is doing. Win/Olin is much bigger company and ammo supplier than Hornady
The 6.8 Western will get a revival with the 277 Fury becomeing popular. I think they should have named it the 270 (.277 diameter) Western. This is a winner that has been discarded too early, but it will have a revival.
Which rifle manufacturer is willing to put a 85k psi on their chamber without bleeding off gas to run the action?
@SD_HUNTING_FISHING A Sig rep told Ron Spomer they were lowering the pressure down to 70k because of accuracy issues and whatnot. It was always unrealistic

@@SD_HUNTING_FISHING True. This is why i think that the 6.8 Western would be something hunters would look at, because the rifles in 277 fury will be expensive. As a seasoned hunter, the question is obviously "why do we need another rifle caliber", and the answer is "we don't", but new calibers keep becomeing popular, and often on the back of a new cartridge. The 6.5 Creedmore is a good example. People suddenly started hunting with the 6.5 Creedmore, but the Scandinavians have been hunting with he 6.5x55 Swedish for more than a century. The Norwegian National Rifle competitions are still shot useing 6.5x55 Swedish, most people useing a SIG Sauer 200 STR (Scandinavian Target Rifle), also known as the SIG Sauer 200 STR Matc. The .308 Winchester became an absolutely massive global success after the US military adopted the 7.62x51 Nato, and the 30-06 did the same thing. New rifles chambered in 30-06 are actually becomeing more scarce. It has a lot to do with ebbs and flows in popularity, in my opinion. And as has been pinted out. The 277 Fury will probably be specked at 70 000 psi or less, to become a realistic choise.
Don't forget the military switching to 6.8. And who currently runs lake city? Winchester! They'll get there eventually and so will all the other manufacturers.
Picked up my barreled action today. My builder only had time to do 2 barrels with my reamers: my 270-7PRC and 300WSM modified to long action. The 270-7PRC is a cut-rifled 8 twist 4 groove K&P barrel. The 300WSM is a 4 groove Brux 9 twist. I just finished loading the 170 Berger VLD for the 270, test rounds but can't shoot tomorrow. It's supposed to thunderstorm all day. So, I'll shoot Friday. These barrels are threaded for that Terminus Zeus quick change action so I can spin them off at the range. Action is in an MDT chassis system for now. The stock I took was inletted for a standard 700 action or clone with feed lips and floor plate. The Terminus action is for magazines only. So, I ordered a stock from McMillan yesterday. Wish me luck. I've not found anything online about anyone else necking down the 7PRC to 270. I used 7PRC data with a 180 bullet and still reduced starting charge by 1 grain.

@@peterluttgens3364 No. I researched it for a long time. It was not well supported, ammo not readily available, even Browning and Winchester just about put it on the shelf. It's a very nice cartridge but at that time the 7PRC was announced and I knew it was the case capacity I was looking for to create a 270PRC. 270 is my favorite caliber. So I started the process of getting a reamer, 8 twist barrels from 2 manufacturers, and the Terminus Zeus QC action. I knew the 7PRC would be a hit. It was, is, and will be. It's not going anywhere. Thus, brass is plentiful and I have 1000+ pieces on hand. I can rob my stash of about 100 to dedicate to the 270-7PRC project
I wanted a bit more case capacity than the 6.8 Western had to offer. Of course, now we hear that ADG is going to make brass for it so it would have been a slight consideration had that announcement occurred a year ago but I wouldn't have changed my mind. I may add a 6.8 Western for Ss and Gs but no time soon. I'm concentrating on too much stuff as it is:
- Three 7PRCs, an additional Benchmark barrel for another 7PRC to spin on to my Zeus action
- Two 280 AIs
- Two Tikka 7RemMags (still finalizing loads for my sons, they are not youth age, for cow elk hunt. By the way, anyone know of a good state to cow elk hunt where we can DIY? My sons are city boys but love the meat and they are not used to hunting out west like me)
- Two 308s
- Three Tikka 30-06s
- and I just took a Brux barrel to the smith to make a 6.5PRC from a Tikka 300 WinMag

@@chadperry4021 Sure. I just finished loading 190 Speer Impact, 190 ABLR, and about to load some 210 Berger VLDs. I was just researching what powder(s) for the 210. Right now just pressure testing for max loads. Each bullet will start with seating 10th off lands. How am I to let you know? Reply on this video?

Its crazy that hornady havent changed labels or added stickers to the current boxes saying 2800 or 2850fps since they can't use rl26 and dont have other powder
With millions of rounds fired every week in Ukraine, we are probably lucky to just have some kind of powders! Can’t blame theses companies to cash in juicy military contracts.
It's not at all crazy. Hornady is showing the world exactly what they are, a marketing company. I will never again trust their products or their quality. Obviously they did the load development with the different powder and thought the public wouldn't figure it out. They just had to put a new label on the box. But they freely choose to deceive the public. Stay away from anything Hornady.
thanks for the vid. love both my 6.8's. couple things... there're more than 2 manufacturers for the 6.8, as you stated Browning and Winchester, but also in "semi-custom": Christensen, Seekins, Fierce, plus you can get a full custom from Oregon Mountain Rifle and a few others. So definitely only one company making sub $1000 guns, 1 making sub $1500, and from there its dollabillz. As for the rumor of ADG brass, we can hope - i'm on a "waiting list" for "test run" brass this fall, so a good chance it happens.

It seems Hornady has really worked hard on blackballing the 6.8 Western due to the 7 PRC. Both are terrific cartridges, so give the people the option to decide for themselves. So it’s a shame if that’s the case. It’s like the 30-06 vs the 308. The biggest difference between the two is short action vs long action. Both cartridges have flourished, so why not the 6.8W and the 7 PRC? The biggest difference between the those two is, again, short action vs long action.
I’ve got a couple of friends who have the 7 PRC and a few others with the 6.8 Western. They’ve all had successful results, so both are proving to be excellent choices for big game hunting.
Anyway, I’d love to see another rifle manufacture chambered for the 6.8W, that’s sub $1,000. It could really help boost the 6.8W.

The 6.8 western is a super impressive little round. The fact that it is a short action that even could be in consideration with a 280 AI or 7 RM tells you everything you need to know.
Finding a rifle that's not a Browning or ammo that's not made from Winchester though is a dead end scavenger hunt. If you aren't set up for reloading or buying custom rifles you don't have any options to shoot the caliber sadly.
The ammo especially as a lot of guys in my circle have had personal experiences with their QA. If you cant get consistent out of the box then the performance of the caliber doesn't mean jack.
I think that 6.8 Western will have a revival, and let's just start by calling it tge 270 Western. Hopefully there will be many factory loads available in a couple of years.
I’ve purchased my ammo online from Choice Ammunition. I’ve been very impressed with their loads. Unfortunately, they sold out of their high BC loads, but they’ve got some in the 150 grain. They are working to get those high BC rounds back in supply asap.

That’s the one that I’ve got my eyes on. I love my Christiansen FFT, but I’d rather have that Seekens for a few hundred $ more.
They had it on display at the Western Hunting Expo in SLC and I was impressed. Beautiful rifle.
From a current reloading aspect on the 6.8 Western brass is not a valid consideration when shooting this cartridge. Brass needs = 100 browning/ win have fun mag dump whatever. Extra special brass needs = buying 300 WSM brass cut to length and size to 6.8
Great video. I have experienced the same, at box velo from my 6.5PRC in a 24” barrel but struggle with my 7RM to get close to factory except for Federals Terminal Ascent. It’s within 25 fps while the Hornady 162 ELD-X is shy by 100 fps.
I'm glad you measured the case capacity for comparison.
Now I don't know what the usable case capacity is, but the fatter neck would acount for some of it.

My personal experience with both, it comes down to do you want a short action or long action?
Check your velocities before you thumb punch into the ballistics calculator.
They need a bigger bullet weight variance as well! They are 162 - 175 grains with factory loads. They should be offering it with lighter bullets for versatility. I ran the ballistics on the 150 gr. Nosler Accond LR at 3150 fps. The BC is ...592. The 165 ABLR has a BC of .620. Comparing these two loads the 150 gr bests it in every category out to 700 yards with the exception of muzzle energy which the 165 gr. Beats it by 2 ft/ lbs. Under that range the 150 grain is superior unless you want a heavier bullet or higher sectional density depending on the game. They make very aerodynamic 135's as well from other manufacturers.
I think Hornady's marketing and refusal to support the 6.8 western are the only reasons it "died". Hornady in their podcast on the 7PRC exposed that when they brought it up. I'm glad someone else is bringing this to light.

Yup I just chronographed an entire box of Hornady ELD-X 7 REM MAG out of my 26” barrel Remington 700 BDL. 🤦🏻♂️ not a single round was even close to the advertised muzzle velocity of 2975. The average was 2850. Absolute nonsense.

I LOVE 270 caliber but I’m curious what the 6.5 PRC would be like if you loaded it with 156 Berger EOL to compare to the 170 gr 6.8 Western load you were doing.
I don’t have either, but the 156 EOL in my 6.5-300 is pretty amazing to shoot so I’m curious to see you compare the same bullet types between them.
And therefore a range finder is not needed
Seekins makes rifles in 6.8 western
Now that the 7PRC is available in the EU i've seen some shoot handloads made with our usual powders.
Put some Norma MRP or some RS76 in that case and you will get the screaming fast round that was promised. I can't speak for the 6.8western since its non existent here (unfortunately) but the few people shooting the PRC that I know are seeing really incredible performances.
I think that you will get 6.8 Western factory loads from the likes of Norma in Europe in a year or two. The 270 category will grow on the back of the 277 Fury.
Reload Swiss Rules 😜 my Main Powder is RS60 for various different Calibers (6.5x55 270.Win 30.06 8x68s) it really get Things moving and GRT is very precise with calculations with it, RS76 i never tried cause i dont shoot any other Magnum then my 8x68S with 160gn TTSX its a Laser beam not great BC but 3320ft/s and it works on Game
People are getting 3100+ with 175s

Barnes makes a 155gr LRX for the 6.8 western. Should test that!! I love barnes bullets, they just work.
Barnes makes great ammo, but their 120 gr 6.5 could be better! 2910 on box 2880 out of my 24” tikka! I have 129gr factory loads going over 2900! Nosler ablr 129 are even worse 2850 on box 2770 out of my tikka
@@thedirtygot9570 So I have a 270 win that I cut the barrel down to 20" to suppress it. Now I've shot the barnes factory 130 ttsx and the 129gr LRX, box posted velocity is 3140 out of a 24" barrel. I'm getting 3023 avg with 6.1 SD and 21 ES out of a 20" barrel so I'm not losing much at all. Now my 300blk shoots the 110gr barnes tac-tx at 2486 which is much faster than box. Both cartridges hit like a freight train and kills beautifully effective.
My plan is to load for Barnes 129 LRX - deer-sized game and Barnes 155 LRX for moose / bear.

@@thedirtygot9570 I threaded mine when I cut the barrel to 20", I added a 3 port rugged muzzle break and eventually a suppressor. With the break it recoils like a .243 now. I laughed when I shot it. With thhe suppressor on it recoils a tad bit more but not much, maybe 6.5 creedmoor.
Yes! 100%! If you want magnum velocities you need a longer barrel period. Lighter and shorter rifles have consequences. Increased felt recoil, decreased velocity, thinner barrel profiles. You just have to determine where you draw the line, what you’re willing to sacrifice.

I'm having good luck with my first go at loading my 7PRC. 168 ABLR, 66.5 vit165 gives me 2900 out of a 22" barrel on my christensen mesa.
68.5 was a hard stop for pressure using my hornady brass.

Regarding the bullets available for the 6.8 Western, I agree, limited, however, with the 165 ABLR and Berger 170, what more do you need? Hammer has 2 nice bullets but BC isn't amazing: the 160 HHT and the 162 Hammer Hunter. I think all would work excellent inside 600 yards. Sierra makes a 175 Tipped Game King. One of the problems I have is when there are too many choices. It makes me get a bit scatter brained trying to decide. It's like going to a tile store because you wanna redo your floors. Too many choices gets a bit overwhelming. When bullet selection is more limited, that streamlines my process. Saves me a lot of components, time, etc. because I know I have to make one of these bullets work as well as I can get it. Right after I type this I have to go make some decisions about powders for my 300WSM test loads using the 210 Berger. I'll probably go overboard and pressure test Re25, Re22, Re19, Win760, H4831SC, and VVN550. Which is way too much. But I decided on Re22 and H4831SC today.
Barnes makes a 155 Grain LRX as well for the 6.8 Western.
And since the factory ammo assortment is so limited for 6.8 Western, there is plenty of information available from other handloaders out there. You can discard a lot of options just based on that. And then publish your best loads.
The 156 Hammer Hunter I found to be the best combination of weight to BC ratio. It should out perform the 162's, being 6 grains lighter and having better BC than the 160 HHT or 162 HH. I believe I was getting well over 3000 fps and 1/2 minute groups in my 24" 6.8 W.

I had a 270 wsm and I waited 6 months for brass, to me it died. I could buy 270 wsm ammo but at 60 dollars who could honestly be supporting that. I am at the range at least once a month and shooting 80 to 100 arounds at a visit. I love shooting my rifles. But on a teacher salary weatherby not in my budget.

Love the 6.8 Western. I'm a fan of the 27's I just wish the 27 Nosler was getting the love as it really delivers the foot pounds at distance. Until they become mainstream my 270 "B" fast twist is my main do everything. Save the 6.8! It has a place.

You realize that you can trim 300 wsm brass to length and just resize with annealing and get 6.8 western right? Or do you want the headstamp?

The biggest question I have is how much extra performance hand loaders are getting out of 6.8 Western compared to factory ammo. Those of us that are loading 7 PRC are getting wildly better numbers than the Hornady factory ammo. Are 6.8 Western loaders getting even better performance than their box ammo? There could be a difference between my Chrono and the one used in the video. However my average speed for precision hunter is 2915 fps. I have also sent my barrel off to the barrel manufacturer to have them look at something and they shot groups that came in at 2914. That being said, yes it is 26 barrel. My loads with 69.3 gr of N565 and 180 gr Berger Hybrids averaged 3005 fps over 25 shots. I mean who buys factory stuff anyways 😅

The Speer Impact and Berger VLD targets were impressively small despite varying charges. Neither printed over an inch. The Nosler ABLR was just over an inch so that part is good. Just need to find more velocities in both
My 280AI has a 9t Bartlein barrel, 24" and it's shooting the Berger 168VLD at 3000fps with 62.5gr H4831SC into half inch groups no matter the seating depth and no pressures so I'm going to go up on those charges slightly. Kinda ticks me off and makes me happy at the same time because my 26" Krieger barreled 7RemMag is doing the same velocity with 73.0gr Retumbo but this is one of my rifles that puts 3 into one hole almost every time so I'll have to live with it

@@chadperry4021 Short story: I bought a stock to build this Terminus Zeus action change out barrel rifle system. I failed to realize the Terminus action is ONLY cut for DBM, ie, no feed lips. The stock is inletted for 700 floorplate, thus, needs an action with feed lips. My gunsmith said he can get it to fit but instead I recently ordered a McMillan stock for this action and Hawkins Hunter DBM M5. So, my current testing is all with an MDT chassis system, which I do not intend to carry hunting. This makes me apprehensive about doing serious accuracy development when the action is not bedded in the intended hunting stock. So initial testing is solely to learn max powder charges with a couple bullets. At the moment I've exceeded velocity goal with the 170 BVLD. Once I get the stock and get that all together I will then work on hunting loads. I've got a Tikka 7RemMag I'm still working on, a Tikka 270 for my son, the 300WSM, and a 280AI that are going out to the range tomorrow. If I get time tonight, I'll organize some more loads for the 270-7PRC and the 165 Nosler ABLR. If I do, it will go tomorrow also.

So the Fantasyland 7PRC slightly edges the 6.8Western, and the 7RM is right in the middle of them. With more rifle manufacturers offering 1-8 twist barrels for the 7RM and ammo cost 1/2 the price, why would anyone bother with the 7PRC?

I like the 6.8 Western but reloading brass is hard to find. So, I have to dismiss the idea of using is it in my 2024 Elk Season Hunt.

I reload my wife’s 7PRC with RL 25 and it shoots sub 1/4 MOA at 100 with a minimal charge weight and 3080 fps and a ES of 10 fps. Rl25=Rl26 without the fancy extra goo
6.8 western isn't dead, they just need to get some more rifle manufacturers on board, and someone to make brass. federal making ammo couldn't hurt that either.

I'd love to see you hand loading the 6.8 with 175gr to actual max not super watered down manual numbers and I dont think we should assume 3000fps on a 26" barrel at this point with the 7mm prc you gonna have to absolutely prove it can't assume anything with that one.
The 175 gr SGK is a really disappointing bullet. It's b.c. is not that good and you can't get velocities like you think it would. We need more bullet options.

i dont think you should have fudged the 7PRC #s. Use the numbers you have.
The problem with 6.8 Western is its caliber and the fact there just isn't the bullet selection for it like there is with other calibers. Without a wide selection of projectiles, you're limited to niche market. Most available projectiles in 6.8/.277 are hunting based projectiles. If you want to create a successful new cartridge, you have to make something that is attractive for hunters AND precision shooters. Limiting yourself to just the hunting crowd isn't going to make for a commercially successful cartridge in this day in age.
I do think there will be more .277 projectiles available on the back of the 277 Fury project.
The bullet selection is almost perfect. How many more iterations do you need? Shoots a 160 grain solid at 3100 fps and shoots a 175 at 3000. The cartridge is what it does.

Thus, I went 270-7PRC and that is primarily due to NO 6.8 Western brass availability and NO quality brass to maximize its utility. I have Peterson, Federal, and ADG brass for my 270-7PRC. And, had I known ADG was going to make 6.8 Western brass I would have taken that into consideration but my testing thus far exceeds the Western's capabilities and I'm nowhere near done testing. Now that I've gone down the road I have no intentions of going backwards for a lesser cartridge
A couple of points to make I am sure you may be starting to notice me posting and in no way am I trying to be any certain way about your videos I just simply want to point out some inconsistency when you shot the seven PRC and it had a flyer you did not ignore it you talked about how bad The group was when you talk about the 6.8 western you take additional shots and ignore the flyer I gave you credit you still post the measurement with the flyer but aside from that I agree with you Hornady is flat out lying about velocity on the seven PRC but also explain to me how you can use the same weight bullet with less powder and get a higher velocity. It is making me want to go buy a 6.8 western and compare velocities myself. I am in no waysting false information but given your knowledge of how cartridges work and simple physics more powder should be more speed so some thing somewhere is not right. I hope you don’t mind me leading these comments I am truly disappointed with Hornady and I am slowly becoming disillusioned thinking they’re another mass marketing company that cares more about optics and less about their product sadly
I promise you... you don't want to see the 5 shot group of my 7mm PRC. They don't stack in there after a flyer... they get much worse.

No you are not thinking of it correctly. It is the weapons, That are insufficient to run higher pressures to obtain that velocity. The rifles are not built for alternative power and powders. Watch ultimate reloader 308. So that tell.

Many factors killed it. Poor timing and marking by Winchester, Hornady inflating their numbers to show 7 PRC “out performs” it then marketing the hell out of that, and honestly a dumb name. 6.8 WSM would’ve sufficed and drawn attention with the wsm crowd. I’d love to have one, but sadly internet chads killed it and the market will never recover.

Took my Model 70 out the other day with the factory Winchester 165 ABLR and was getting MOA at 2,944fps. Only 34fps less than box velocity.
That's good. Do you have any experience with that bullet on game? I have a few hundred on hand to test as well but opted for the 170 Berger VLD first.

Can it be done yes can it be done accurately yes, can a 6.8 rifling handle a 110-120 grain cup and core yes will it be accurate NO bullet will unravel in flight.

All I am saying is with current level of bullet manufacturing that is the reason for new cartridges with new rifling standards. Consumer motives have shifted, rifles are now so cheap that 1 cartridge to rule them all or can I pick a cartridge to do everything doesn’t matter. The cheapest component of your hunting experience is your rifle and subsequently your barrel.
