  • One of the most interesting and unique coffees to have come from Nespresso as of late is the Nicaragua La Cumplida Refinada. This coffee has come out for both the classic and vertuo lines, and I must say that I was really surprised when I first tried it. In this video I will explore their unique processing method, and how it imparts such fascinating character on the final cup. I’ll also taste the same coffee on both machines and compare.

    This is super interesting, I'm not a fan of Nespresso myself but I see how convenient and consistent the system can be, but for me is not as cost effective, I'm not gonna lie the Vertuo system caught my attention for sure but I kinda enjoy the whole process of making Espresso, also I enjoy doing coffee on a V60 dripper lately and if you can share your favorite recipies\techniques would be great.
    P.s. I'm a BIG fan of your content. 👍

      Thank you so much for the kind words. Happy to see people are enjoying the videos!
      I also wasn't in to Nespresso much, but when my girlfriend bought these machines I couldn't resist! I do mostly V60 at home, but on the occasion I like to have a quick latte :D
      I do have 2 videos on this channel for V60 techniques, although the new and improved one is my more recent thoughts. I may also be making a video soon on a very interesting technique that involves removing the liquid after the bloom, then adding it back in later to control acidity (and caffeine content). Very interesting

    I’m curious - it looks like the box for the original capsules says it can also be made as a Lungo. Do you have any insights into this, or thoughts on which flavor profile (for Espresso or Lungo size shots) is better?
    Thanks! 😊

      Good question ! I've only really made it as espresso size though.. because I like the bolder flavors and thicker texture. But it's too strong for you or you are making an americano, I think a lungo would work well !

    Hi! I like your video... but could you please recommend which machine is better???
    I'm starting this coffee life but I'm lost and dunno if I should buy vertuo or essenza mini

    • @CoffeeTimeJR
      @CoffeeTimeJR  3 года назад +1

      Hey there! It's a tough one, but it really depends what kind of coffee you like. The main difference is that the classic line (the essenza) will only do espresso. So you need to be okay with drinking mostly lattes (if you have the aerrocino that's also important), or i suppose boil some water for an americano. If you want a machine that can do espresso AND make you a full cup of black coffee from a single pod, you'll want to go for the Vertuo line. It's really about what's important to you.
      The Vertuo probably suits more family style homes where they need variety for everyone. Or if you invite people over often. Just another observation.
      lastly i'll say, if you like just regular espresso, I do think the classic does a better job. The mechanisms behind the classic line are more similar to traditional espresso machines.

      Great review!I had no idea Refinada is based on regular Nicaragua line.I compared it straight away in my machine and I cannot agree more with you. Except the fact that Refinada together with some wet process capsules from Nespresso are my favorites. Other than that, most Nespresso capsules have fairly similar taste profile-I enjoy to accompany that with drip in occasionally.

      The Vertuo line does not make espresso by any means. Rather, it can make some very dense extractions (depending on the capsule parameters) and some of the capsules want to be brewed in a very small volume that compares to the Original line. But in my opinion not one of the "espresso" Vertuo capsules resembles actual espresso.

    I don’t understand why you would skim off the crema. Folding it back in returns the oils to the coffee.

    • @CoffeeTimeJR
      @CoffeeTimeJR  2 года назад

      That isn't really how crema works... it's just created from excess CO2 dissolved in the liquid that cannot be held any longer upon returning to a normal atmospheric pressure. Like opening a bottle of pop that has been shaken. The CO2 leaves the solution and rises to the top. I mean sure, it takes some suspended coffee bits with it, and it may lift some non water soluble oil to the top of the coffee, but the majority of the foam is bitter tasting CO2 bubbles.. I prefer to take that off.

      @@CoffeeTimeJR guess it’s personal preference. I think the coffee tastes better with the crema stirred in. Also, I usually extract my coffee into milk (not frothed). The crema and milk make a creamier layer on top.

    • @fashnek
      @fashnek Год назад +1

      Nespresso does recommend folding the "crema" back in, in their literature.
      And of course, in the case of the Vertuo line, it's mostly not CO2 from the extraction or being under any kind of pressure. Rather, it is plain old air that got stirred/blended in with the coffee.
