Heard this at the Topic in Bradford in the late 70’s. A lovely warm singer. And generous. We were treated that night to one of the most dreadful floor singers I’ve ever heard. There were some sniggers in the audience but when he was finally done, the first to clap was Nic Jones and he actually called out Well done mate. Lucky enough to have heard him a number of times.
Sue Harley Reminds me of my late husband, Steve McGrail, who used to sing this beautifully after he heard Nic singing it in the late 1970s. RIP Steve 2016.
No. He could have been but he was too modest. He was well known as a singer here in central Scotland and he wrote articles for the Living Tradition magazine.@@Eileenjennifer69
I have been reading about him. He sounds like a wonderful person who held high ideals, a great respect for nature, and who cared deeply for the his fellow man. A true socialist, bless him. My condolences on your loss and thank you for the introduction, Sue 🌿
Heard Nic sing this at the Edinburgh Festival in the late 70's. The stand-out number of a stand-set. Simply superb, great singing and when it comes to open tunings he has not been bettered.
When I was an exchange student in London in 1975 I saw Nic perform this as his show closer. Great performer. I saw again a couple weeks later on my 21st birthday. He was a pleasure to watch perform.

What a great memory! It doesn’t surprise me that Nic would be gracious to another performer; his warmth shines through in his music.
beautiful and typical of the man
What a talent. What a tragedy when the accident robbed us of this wonderful voice and guitar.
Yes, but he did recover well enough to write and perform in later years. He is in my top 10 folk singers and guitarists of all time. ✨

Was he also a professional musician, Sue?
