Very helpful video, easy to follow. A bit intimidating at first, especially when you had all the tools laid out but turned out to be straightforward! Thanks!
That really depends on the age of the mixer in the U.S. I think the square bit is a fairly recent development. I'm really not sure when they started doing that. Think of it was made early 2000's or earlier you won't a square bit screwdriver.
I purchased a new Artisan and the lever will not slide all the way and the head won't lock fully. All the youtubes suggest turning the screw below the tilt hinge but that just raises and lowers the head resulting in the beater hitting the bowl when too low and missing the bowl contents if too high. I did the dime test and to get it right, the head will not lock. Do you think I need to open it up and adjust the lever somehow or replace it? Thank you.
Thank you for this tutorial. I didn't get a whole tilt assembly; didn't know that part existed, actually. I just ordered a tilt lever. (I wanted to replace the tilt lever because the knob was missing; and buying a single knob is not an option apparently). To get the old lever off the rod of the assembly, I needed to file the bur off of the tip of the rod that was permanently holding the rod in place. Once I placed the new lever on, I decided I really wanted/needed to figure out how to hold the lever in place again so it wouldn't accidentally slip off the rod someday; or in my case, as I re-assembled the mixer. I ended up using an earring backer; a small, white, round rubber "back" that is designed for the back of a pierced earring. I had to make the earring back hole bigger with my dental pick, so it would fit onto the rod . I fiddled with it for a while to make it fit; but now it's on snugly. By the way, I changed the grease; I did not take the gears off, but spent about 45 minutes with popsicle sticks, Q-tips, and bits of old rags to remove as much of the old grease off as best I could. And, I didn't have the proper cradle to hold up the upside down mixer! So, I rolled a washcloth inside each end of a hand towel, and set the mixer in between the rolls and that worked pretty well.
It's great to hear you successfully changed the lever and used the back of an earring to do it. It's not something we had thought of doing but it makes sense.
Any tips on removing the pins from the planetary. My pin has been quite stubborn. I've read that people have used a heat gun, wd-40 and putting the mixer in the freezer. Metal does contract in cold temperatures, so that sounds like the best way to go. That being said, Is there only one way to hammer the pin out or does it work either in either direction? Thank you
If the pin is REALLY stubborn then it is possible that over time that the pin has sheared slightly. When you then hit the pin, some of the force goes directly into the shaft and will mean a huge amount of force will be needed to get the pin through. At this stage it is unlikely that extreme temperatures will make much difference and lubrication will not help at all. It is always worth trying the pin from either side. There is no fixed direction but there may be less resistance one way than the other. As a final resort you may need to drill it out. Use a much smaller drill to start and only go as far as the shaft on either side. Increasde the drill size a little at a time and eventually you should be able to pull away the tip of the pin without damaging the planetary or shaft.
Hi. I am unable to unlock the tilt lever. However upon removing the small screw from the side the lever works but as soon as I put he screw back the cam assembly sticks. Could you please give any idea on how to resolve this. Thank You
Good Morning, Thank you for your message. I have added a link below for the tilt lever: www.kaparts.co.uk/Home/tabid/36/ProductID/481/Default.aspx Kind regards, Jade
Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. Please would you kindly send us a photo to our email of your motor brushes and the inside of the back of the mixer. You will need to unscrew the end cover. We look forward to hearing from you. Jade
It is quite possible that you have put the brush back in the wrong way round. Have a look at our video here ruclips.net/video/5YuS3atXR0M/видео.html which shows how to fit them correctly.
Ive had to replace this latch twice despite minimal use of the mixer! This extremely poor locking mechanism is the result of whirlpool buying the kitchenaid brand and systematically downgrading the parts and design to save money. This issue is extremely prevalent now. Im shocked that whirlpool has destroyed such a famous mixer, very soon these mixers will be known for the garbage they have become, rather then the great mixers they used to be. unbelievable.

Fair point. We wanted to be organised and show all the tools needed but I can see how that might be intimidating.
Thank YOU! This fix saved quite a bit of money for us. Your video was easy to follow.
Thanks for the detailed instructions.
Thank you! This allowed me to fix my mixer ( that used to be my grandma’s). Celebrating by using it to make a cake for my granddaughters.
In the USA you will need square bits. This was super helpful.

Thanks a lot, you saved me, and i saved 70€ at least !

Do you have an update? I have the same issue

So many innuendos 😂 Thanks for the video Jade, I think I'll stick to just ordering a replacement tip as that's all that broke on my knob 🤦♂️
They don't sell the knob. It's heat formed on the lever.
Thanks I am getting ready to do this repair. Where to you get the cradle to rest the mixer in?
Great video. I love you. Most aggravating hour of my life
what do you use for a cradle? I'd like to get a pair.
