Yet people say we don't have our own culture. Language is the most important part of any culture, if fellow singaporeans can understand, then it's correct in our culture.

There is no right or wrong with the mandarin that we speak , these are the words that we local use , same as Malaysia , China , Taiwan have their own way of words for certain things

This is our localised language evolved from various culture and dialects. It is not wrong. That is how language are formed and evolved. Just like Hong Kong's cantonese have many localised and unique terms different from so-called "correct" terms in Guangzhou. So do not say it is wrong for that is the reason why the world dislikes you. Do not impose your language and culture on other country.

We need to explain why some of these words we say are different from Mandarin! Some words are direct translation of dialects like Cantonese and Hokkien that have been part of our creole mandarin heritage! That’s why as long as we explain them well, people will be able to understand our Singaporean style mandarin! Nothing wrong being different. Everywhere in China the locals also have a twist to the mandarin language. We are proud of our own special twist!

Sometimes, a Malay food stall keeper asks me, "You want to makan or tapao?". Come on! Singlish and the unique Chinese vocab items are one of the many factors that have unified us together as a Singaporean identity.
Malaysians and Singaporeans should be proud of our local Mandarin (新马本土华语) as in different parts of China, they have their lingo and none would think their vocabulary is wrong. Taiwanese say '趴‘ for percent like '五十趴‘ 。台湾人都不觉得有什么不对或者很难听。However, the Singaporean Chinese media think 巴仙 is non-standard and they parrot the Mainland Chinese using 百分之五十。The Singapore Chinese media have massacred 新马本土华文,I hope Malaysians will preserve it : 巴仙,水草,你要喝什么水,我去按钱,你还钱了没有?etc。

They are correct Singapore Chinese because many are Cantonese in origin but because LKY was forcing the entire country to follow his demand that they speak only Mandarin it was converted to sound Mandarin.. No problem using dabao even in HK. Stop using PRC Mandarin - people all over the world will hate you.

打包 isnt wrong and do have the meaning of take away, but there is stuff that is wrong like the usage of 还钱 in completely wrong scenario. 还钱 is returning money, and you only do that when you took a loan or borrowed money from someone. when you just pay it is 付钱, never 还钱。 another instance is 烧的还是冷的,烧的really doesnt have the meaning of hot at all, it should be 热的. ps: the way sporean pronouce 烧 sounds like 骚 and in the context used where hawkers say 小妹, makes it very wrong and weird if you know what i mean

Percent : Taiwanese say 趴 :五十趴。Hong Kongers say 五十个 percent,China says 百分之五十,but Singapore Chinese media think 巴仙 is non-standard and dare not to use. The Taiwanese media don't feel inferior about their Taiwanese Chinese such as 地壳 = 地牛 , 挖泥机 = 怪手,交通锥 =蛋糕桐,购物中心 = 大卖场 . And the irony is Singapore Chinese papers are parroting the Taiwanese so are our Media Corps Chinese actors
