Yet people say we don't have our own culture. Language is the most important part of any culture, if fellow singaporeans can understand, then it's correct in our culture.
There is no right or wrong with the mandarin that we speak , these are the words that we local use , same as Malaysia , China , Taiwan have their own way of words for certain things
In China, they also say "你要喝什么水?“ when they're asking you “你要喝什么饮料?”。 And people like the blue cat knows this, he will say, "That' means we Singaporeans are Koh-rect lah!" .
Some parts of china people also use 打包, it literally means 打一个包 for taking away, its not wrong... Dun anyhow teach leh😅😅 Different regions speak differently in Mandarin, just like British and American English terms are all spoken differently, for example car boot and car trunk etc...
This is our localised language evolved from various culture and dialects. It is not wrong. That is how language are formed and evolved. Just like Hong Kong's cantonese have many localised and unique terms different from so-called "correct" terms in Guangzhou. So do not say it is wrong for that is the reason why the world dislikes you. Do not impose your language and culture on other country.
We need to explain why some of these words we say are different from Mandarin! Some words are direct translation of dialects like Cantonese and Hokkien that have been part of our creole mandarin heritage! That’s why as long as we explain them well, people will be able to understand our Singaporean style mandarin! Nothing wrong being different. Everywhere in China the locals also have a twist to the mandarin language. We are proud of our own special twist!
If you speak proper mandarin, other people might mistakenly think you’re from some special characteristic country leh, then how ah? Eat strength liao lah, especially go overseas ……… cannot lah….😂😂😂😂😂😂
Sometimes, a Malay food stall keeper asks me, "You want to makan or tapao?". Come on! Singlish and the unique Chinese vocab items are one of the many factors that have unified us together as a Singaporean identity. Malaysians and Singaporeans should be proud of our local Mandarin (新马本土华语) as in different parts of China, they have their lingo and none would think their vocabulary is wrong. Taiwanese say '趴‘ for percent like '五十趴‘ 。台湾人都不觉得有什么不对或者很难听。However, the Singaporean Chinese media think 巴仙 is non-standard and they parrot the Mainland Chinese using 百分之五十。The Singapore Chinese media have massacred 新马本土华文,I hope Malaysians will preserve it : 巴仙,水草,你要喝什么水,我去按钱,你还钱了没有?etc。
They are correct Singapore Chinese because many are Cantonese in origin but because LKY was forcing the entire country to follow his demand that they speak only Mandarin it was converted to sound Mandarin.. No problem using dabao even in HK. Stop using PRC Mandarin - people all over the world will hate you.
There are different versions of english too, eg British, American and Australian. Not only it sounds different, they way they use to describe certain things can also be very different. There’s nothing wrong with a singlish mandarin. Just another version that has been evolved.
打包 isnt wrong and do have the meaning of take away, but there is stuff that is wrong like the usage of 还钱 in completely wrong scenario. 还钱 is returning money, and you only do that when you took a loan or borrowed money from someone. when you just pay it is 付钱, never 还钱。 another instance is 烧的还是冷的,烧的really doesnt have the meaning of hot at all, it should be 热的. ps: the way sporean pronouce 烧 sounds like 骚 and in the context used where hawkers say 小妹, makes it very wrong and weird if you know what i mean
No leh… these days if your English is good and mandarin is poor, means you’re not elite enough! 😂 we know who’s an elite when they can speak well in both languages. 我们新加坡人如果只是会用英语沟通,就说明不是精英,精英都是双语优越的。😅
SOft spoken, speak well, articulated - but listen carefully the contents all not logical a ton of rubbish. That is what we see at youtube all those influencers and inspirational speakers and salesmen.
If it's because of appearing high SES, then it's really misguided in this day & age cos being bilingual has become important as well as very functional & useful.
I don’t understand why we don’t advocate for Singapore version of Chinese and English but instead thinks that china Chinese and US English are correct.
Percent : Taiwanese say 趴 :五十趴。Hong Kongers say 五十个 percent,China says 百分之五十,but Singapore Chinese media think 巴仙 is non-standard and dare not to use. The Taiwanese media don't feel inferior about their Taiwanese Chinese such as 地壳 = 地牛 , 挖泥机 = 怪手,交通锥 =蛋糕桐,购物中心 = 大卖场 . And the irony is Singapore Chinese papers are parroting the Taiwanese so are our Media Corps Chinese actors
SG Rojak. Bo Bian one 🏳️🏳️🏳️👀 One way is to Glorify Singrish. 🤭🫣 Singlish is nothing but broken English. But to sugar coat the situation, we can glorify it🤣 Eg. IrRegardless is Singrish. But many still using it as they have never been corrected. There is no such word in English.

这是新马本土华语,就如 巴仙,水草,按钱,打油,还钱,你要喝什么水?
Uniquely Singapore chinese....cannot find in another part of the world. So proud
Why are we wrong, should be them who's wrong.
这是新马本土华语,就如 巴仙,水草,按钱,打油,还钱,你要喝什么水?我们要保留我们的 unique 文化。

Btw 带走 is also wrong, its supposed to be 外带. Also PHD, permanent head damage ah?
What about 打酱油? it is to go buy soya sauce and not to hit the soya sauce. So 打 does not only mean to hit.

This channel is authentically sibeh Singaporean sia.
I like Singapore chinese. No need to confirm to other country’s version of Chinese

In China, if you say 打包 in KTV.. LOL

Language is subjectively objective

Don't speak well but still can be understood, that's important.
Typical accent of boomer like Mr brown.
水草shui chao is a type of water grass you put in the drinks😄
Did I hear Shibal at the Korean part 😂
Taiwan and China also different. Taiwan 酒店is club or pub. Singapore and China is hotel
Taiwan call hotel 饭店
Clubs n pubs can also be called 夜店 in Taiwan
@@xz-se6br Ahh yes. That too
酒店 in Taiwan is Malaysia's and Singapore's 酒吧,those where there are 吧女 坐在你身边陪你喝酒。在台湾,到酒店上班 means 做 吧女。
In Japan, 酒店 means a shop that sells wine and alcohol
Can the speakers understand each other? Yes? Then it's not wrong
Yes, I don't understand my language as well
My mother tongue is Cantonese.
我啲系。你识唔识得睇广东字?So am I. Can you read Cantonese writing?
Singaporeans now lost touch of dialects. Blue cat failed to acknowledge this?
Dialects are our mother tongue. Mandarin is a common language.
Mandarin is Beijing approved and Sg implemented
但系我不但只识得讲广府话,重使得讲福建话。我本会晓写福建字。You're referring to those born after 1990s, aren't you?
2:40 Who fing cares? Just do what u r supposed to do now...

Not US English lah. Singapore officially is British English. Blame the British for not enough TV shows.
