As a fellow bass clef player I highly respect people who march tuba over sousaphone it looks very hard and taxing on a person, I don’t play a brass instrument though 😅
How heavy are marching tubas, I’m going to start marching a Sousa and going into dci after. edit: I started 2 days ago on pvc Sousa. My shoulders hurt a lot. It’s like 20 pounds still
the contras we use at my school are 35 pounds but dcis tubas are primarily in between 20 and 30. The heavier sousas like the ones in the ohio state can be as heavy as 100 pounds so it truly varies where you march
I play quads, and the weight of your instrument shouldn’t steer you away from marching. Your body will build muscle and it’ll get better each time. My quads are 40 pounds and now that it’s late marching band season, they feel like nothing. Ngl I was in terrible pain during band camp but I’m chilling now
Bluecoats use pretty light Yamahas that are designed with keeping weight down in mind. I've been told they're a little less than 20 pounds but there are contras out there that can be 30+
I can't stop watching this show! The head cams are so fun to watch, especially with all of the vocals and shenanigans.
Same tho
Blue coats this year was absolutely insane
I know right! I saw them live at prelims and it was like the highlight of my year so far. So fun to watch!
Watching these headcams makes me so nervous about auditioning, you guys are so good
tubas are underrated y’all deserve melodies
Respect for all the contras those things ain’t light and the amount of air to be loud for long and to March it’s nuts, props to you:)

What instrument do you play then? I thought all woodwinds were in treble clef
@@rubikboondoggles6352 Bassoon! But for marching band I was in drumline :)
@@rubikboondoggles6352 bari sax and bass clarinet exist
@@araxshiriau9275 those both play treble clef dumbass
@@araxshiriau9275 yeah but I'm pretty sure Bari sax and bass clarinet still read the treble clef on their music

Thinking about doing dci since highschool is almost up. I might go from piccolo to contra lol. But they look so cool omg
I saw a mic on your bell in the thumbnail, were all tubas mic'd this year or was it just some soloists or smth?
