  • This is a video about the dog breed Irish Terrier, from the www.naturallyhappydogs.com website.
    Ann Bradley has been keen on Irish Terriers since 1960 when her parents introduced one into their family. Her main interests today are in breeding and showing them.
    Irish Terriers differ from other long legged terriers in that they are more racey than square which makes them more suitable for activities like agility. They have a wiry coat, like many terriers, which needs stripping but this doesn't need to be done very often and having a dog that doesn't moult is an added bonus. They were originally bred as a guard dog and for killing vermin but, surprisingly, make good gun dogs too.
    Although they had a reputation years ago as a fighter, this problem has now been eliminated. Today, they make an active and family oriented dog and their fondness for food certainly helps with their training.

    As an Irish Terrier owner, this is the most accurate description of ITs that I've seen so far. Most videos just copy old and outdated information from one another. Thanks for giving this fantastic breed justice!

    Just rescued one from a kill shelter. 2 year old female, had to sleep on the area rug in the livingroom for the last 2 nights for her to get comfortable around me but now she is starting to cheer and open up. What a fun breed!

    This woman described Irish Terriers so accurately! I actually never grew up with dogs and had allergies to dogs and cats, but decided on an IT for my first dog after doing extensive research. I had mild allergic reactions the first week with my IT and then gone! ITs are so intelligent, loving, loyal and good-natured. I never worry about my girl with other dogs or children. They love being outdoors and can handle lots of exercise. The video is incredibly accurate, my IT only barks when someone comes to the door. She gobbles up her food and is very food driven but I feed her on a schedule and she is fine. For a treat she'll do almost anything. She was easy to crate train. They're just great dogs all around. I highly recommend them.

    Thank you for your video.
    I am the proud owner of an Irish terrier.
    They are a loyal, hardworking, spirited and intelligent breed.
    With the right amount of training, exercise and attention they make fantastic family dogs with a keen nose and instinct to chase, track and dig.
    Not for everyone but those who want a daredevil in the fields, a guard dog for their home and an Irish gentleman at heart the best dog in the world!
    So raise your glasses for the Irish terrier. Slange!!

However I'm now wanting a new dog after being dog free and heartbroken due to the deaths of my last two! I now feel ready and I keep looking at the Irish! I have never known one although ive met a few! How do they compare to other terriers? Please could anyone tell me what they understand please! Thanks Jamie!

    I have an Irish Terrier. I would love to hear the experience of an Irish farmer who thought it was a good idea to tear the hair from their dog. We will never allow someone to tear the hair off our dog. Stripping equates to someone wanting to tear your hair out. our fella gets clipped but never stripped because we love him and we wouldn't do that to him. Anyway, if their hair grows long who says it has to be torn of them - don't get that at all

    • @SpikeyKactus
      @SpikeyKactus 3 года назад +1

      I believe stripping only removes dead hair so the dog doesn't feel anything. But to keep the hair short, you can just brush him with a steel brush, it works very well and is more enjoyable than stripping :)

    • @maggyclark2713
      @maggyclark2713 3 года назад

      @@SpikeyKactus You should check out some of the stripping videos for Irish Terriers. You can tell the dog is uncomfortable by the way his tail is curled under his bum. I brush our chap with a wire brush and trim some of the longer hair. These dogs were originally farm dogs so stripping is some crazy Kennel Club fashion and the above dog is not in his natural state.

      get a puppy? My friend had an old IT lady, she was a very well mannered dog who loved everyone, now I have her grand daughter and my friend has one also. The dog is a huge pet (don´t know a better word), she just loves to either have hughe activity and pull fights, or to cuddle. She has to be anywhere where you are doing anything, and has to sleep pressed to me in bed. It is really demanding as I am single, but this dog will love you forever and do whatever it sees in your eyes (just wait when it is out of puberty :D )
