I asked once Yvan Lacroix about it, and he responded that he uses peanut oil. We will have to ask him also to make a video on it. I tried it at my brother's car, and it worked. Basically, I used it exactly where they were at, let it dwell, and then used a clay bar.
That was nasty! Like Wow!! Considering what you had to do to rescue this vehicle, I think it came out spectacular. I think you earned your fee on this one. Till the next one. 👍🏻
Hey Phil. In Michigan these are really common as well. We have had several like this. What I found to work well is a perforated style clay towel. The non perforated clay media didn’t even come close to working. They’re nasty little fellas. Superior products Super Sol also works well at melting the glue part of the spores, but I don’t recommend that unless it’s just a few isolated pieces.
Cool video, Phil!! Those clay bars looked like they had blackheads on them!! Guess artillery fungus is akin to blackheads but on paint?! Thanks for posting! ❤ 😍❤😍 that color on the Caddy!!! I'd NEVER let it just sit out in the open if it were mine!!
Oh snap! Car candy detail products?? I’m local in Florida where the headquarters is I got a lot of their stuff. It’s great a for the price of gallons of soap/cleaners it’s 18-20$ the interior cleaner they sell magic plus is fire! It’s more concentrated than ps xpress an smells better imo. Good stuff
The worst car I ever detailed as far as artillery fungus was a silver Chrysler Sebring convertible that not only had the spores.. there was green algae growing on the horizontal paint surfaces and convertible top from sitting under a tree for 6 months because the owner had major surgery and rehab. It was a two day project!
i had 2 fungus got it out with auto glym glass polish at work we had a teacher great in mechanical of the motor and perhaps restoration in detailing he left his Citroen C3 to long under a tree or in the woods was a tons of I call it peanuts and don t know was fungus was glue stuck on the roof I believe was 3m compound made it slightly better.by the way it is a elder citroen C3 and for last 3 days the triumph spitfire is almost done its very old paint need to repaint it but after all this polishing its better it shines subject don t wait to long better clean mi teeth.
Considering what you started with, a remarkable final look! I'm wondering... would a Urofiber 50/50 pad perhaps have dug a little deeper into fungus anchor? Regardless, the TW One&Done did a good job. I really like the finish and jetting effect of that compound. Is that paste a Carnauba or a hybrid? Shine on you crazy diamonds!😎🚘
Hi. Thanks. Actually we used a heavy cutting pad from Rupes and the purple wool pads on a few spots and it didn’t make a difference. I didn’t want to be it anymore than we did so as not to compromise the clear.
So did you charge the starting price of your enhancement detail package or did you choose to bump the price up considering the extensive work to do all the decon?
Great video Phil car came out great with what you had to work with but I have a question how long did the outside take to do every time I watch your videos I always wondered how long they take thanks have a great day
Hi. Thanks. Usually we just use the air compressor and blow the pads out every other polishing section. Sometimes we use the pad washer, but mostly the air compressor
Would a ceramic coating provide any kind of protection against artillery fungus? I'm guessing not. Kudos for getting the car looking decent again though there is clearly some enduring damage from those little critters.
Hi. Unfortunately not really. Those fungus spores will attach to anything. The coating may make it easier to clean if caught early enough though. But if left on there the fungus will still bond just as strong.
Wow, that was bad. I hope I never have to deal with that. I haven't seen that here in northeast Wisconsin. Of course, we have cheese spores growing on our heads during Packer season, and that is impossible to fix. But fun. Lol. That blue paint looked incredible when you were done. 2 thumbs up. Great video. Educational. Hi wife!!
Hi. Unfortunately not really. Those fungus spores will attach to anything. The coating may make it easier to clean if caught early enough though. But if left on there the fungus will still bond just as strong. But in this case the customer also didn’t want to pay for a coating.
Unfortunately not. Nothing can protect against fungus spores. Well, technically PPF would be the best, but it would still stain the PPF, but the paint at least under it would be flawless.
First … the hex lights just mess with my eyes. I don’t know what that is. Second … I’m so glad to see detailers still using actual clay bars. So chemical removal … yeah, sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. I agree, it depends on how long it’s been on a vehicle. Acid cleaners seem to do a much better job, specifically ones with hydrofluoric. Not exactly good for you, but effective. Clay barring may take a bit longer, but I think it’s the right tool for these types of situations. Polishing … well … I’m a huge fanboy of Menzerna. I’ve used them for literally decades now. However, I recently bought in to DiY Detail Gold Standard and am happy to say that it’s lived up to the hype. I was skeptical, but no longer. For one-step enhancement, I’m not sure there’s anything like it. It’s way better than I could have hoped for. Reminds me of the original HD Speed formula. Well done on this vehicle guys. Making clients happy is what it’s all about. 😊😊😊
Yikes !!! I don't have this fungus on my car but I'm wondering what are good clay bar options. I tried the yellow Maguires that I could tell was working.
I don't live where we get that fungus, but I picked up a car from the VA area a couple years back, and it was clear it had been covered in it at some point, as the clear coat was eaten completely through in tiny little pock marks all over the horizontal surfaces. The car's still in rebuilding phase, but eventually it's getting a complete paint job.
Where does this fungus come from? Was the customer parking it under a tree? I don’t live far from the Richmond area so I am definitely interested in this source.
ooh ooh ohh has anyone made the joke yet in comments!?!?!? no! here it goes! … “i bet the owner of that car is FUNGUY!!!”eh eh ehhhh, yeah you’re welcome! 🤘🏽🐿️💨
Never seen a clay bar looking like that 😳 good rescue job 👍
Thanks! 😎👍🏼

Ahh yes I thought I remembered some recent home remedy style treatment. That was it 😅🙌
What if you’re allergic to peanuts?
@rosmarin2438 easy. Don't use peanut oil. Message yvan for an alternative, he'll know and he'll reply.
@rosmarin2438 😜😜😜are you going to drink it or eat it? You should use gloves or maybe Yvan Lacroix has a different alternative
What if you have dogs? They will scratch up my paint! 😂
Wow! A lot of work for this one. No wonder you charged more. People don't understand but videos like this help us explain it!.
Definitely! Thanks Bro!
That was a ton of fungus holy cow! Great turn around Phil! You guys killed it!
Yeah man! It was crazy!
Thanks!
Dude Phil sweating his a** off in this one!!
Did you have to use more than one clay bar?
Great Job rescuing this caddy!!
🥵. I used one big 100g bar of clay.
That was nasty! Like Wow!! Considering what you had to do to rescue this vehicle, I think it came out spectacular. I think you earned your fee on this one. Till the next one. 👍🏻
Agreed
Definitely a good product line!
Looks fantastic especially what u had to work with

Another awesome video and content good friend
I’m in Newport News, VA and these spores are the worst! I try to pop them off immediately when I see them. Absolute headache
Definitely a huge headache! Thanks for sharing!

Exactly! 👍🏼 it’s like exfoliating the paint!
Thanks for watching! 😎👍🏼
I have also used Poorboys World Strip Down, but it was not as bad as on this car of yours.
Dude great job
Thanks!
Wow, lots of it. That's something we don't have here.
Me neither

How much would a ceramic coating help it from etching in?
Maybe,,,but only if you removed the spores in time. If left on too long it will eat through the coating also.
Could you of used clay disk or not aggressive enough?
Hey man. Tired the clay disc and it could t get the individual spore anchors unfortunately.
Would a clay pad on a DA removed them any easier?
I tired that years ago and it didn’t go well. Clay baring by hand aggressively on each one is what I found to work the best
What kind of pricing would be good for a bad artillery fungus removal job like this?
So this one once about $800. We charged for our paint enhancement ($500) plus the fungus removal.
@MirandaDetailing definitely have to charge more due to the extra labor
Exactly.
Incredible job. You said looking for 50% improvement but I think you got at least 75%
Thanks! Yeah definitely More like 75% on this one.
So did you charge the starting price of your enhancement detail package or did you choose to bump the price up considering the extensive work to do all the decon?
Definitely bumped up the price!
Amen.

Hi. This one took us about 5 hours total with the two of us.
I DESPISE that crap with a passion!!
Bug and Tar remover works very well too on this type.of fungus. Helps to really soften it up and then if need to go to clay bar
Phil, great outcome!! How do you clean your rupes microfiber pads in between panels when polishing and how often do you do it? Thanks so much.
Hi. Thanks. Usually we just use the air compressor and blow the pads out every other polishing section. Sometimes we use the pad washer, but mostly the air compressor

What a mess. They're like barnacles on a car. I thought bird poop was bad! Great job as always fixing the situation.....
Very much like barnacles! It’s crazy stuff! Thanks for watching
I wonder if steam would be good for removing them ?
Hi. We tried that and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t on old spore anchors. But it’s an option.

Where does this fungus come from? Was the customer parking it under a tree? I don’t live far from the Richmond area so I am definitely interested in this source.
It’s from mulch beds and moldy wet grass. We have a lot of humidity here in the summer. So it gets everywhere.
Awesome video Phil. 🙏🏻
I had to deal with those spores on my last detail. Not fun at all...
Thanks man
