  • Here's a quick video showing how I turned a couple of two-by-fours (2x4s) into an attractive and sturdy wooden landscape border for a flower bed.
What made this installation a snap - or maybe I should say a tap! - was 2xEDGE Staples. The staples make it easy to transform two-by lumber up to 2x6 into landscape edging and garden borders without digging a trench or drilling holes in your wood for rebar, screws, or nails.
The only required installation tool was a 16 ounce rubber mallet which I used to tap the staples into place. Just two other tools came in handy: a circular saw to cut the lumber and a tape measure. That's it!
For this custom edging job I chose to stain the lumber and used Robins Egg Blue 2xEDGE Staples that contrast nicely with the dark gray brown stained lumber. ➡️2xedge.com/rob...

According to experts 2 to 4 inches of mulch is recommended to enrich garden beds and help plants thrive. I chose to use pressure treated 2x4 lumber that's suitable for ground contact because it's affordable and easy to obtain at home improvement stores, local hardware stores, and lumber yards. It's also just the right height to contain the optimal amount of mulch for this garden bed.
This new bed will be home to a number of shade plants starting with transplanted ferns, astilbe, and jacob's ladder. They look pretty tired in this video which was completed one afternoon in late summer. However, next Spring I anticipate that this whole planting area will come to life, brightening up this corner of our yard.
Meanwhile, we'll enjoy these pops of color in robins egg blue through the winter and all year long.
