Worried about our "dangerous" cities in Oklahoma? Go to Chicago, New York, DC, or LA, and see how you feel then.

Shouldn't some facts come into the issue, not just feelings? If you compare the violent crime statistics for those cities plus Oklahoma cities in the top hundred largest, the list runs Chicago > Tulsa > DC > OKC > LA > NYC.

As an individual who moved to Oklahoma City after living in Dallas for 25 years, I can tell you it's a stark difference when you get out of the DFW metroplex. Simply looking at the numbers, there are approaching 9 million people in DFW. There are 4 million in the entire state of Oklahoma and half of those are in OKC and Tulsa.
So when I read crime statistics, it's really distorting my view of what its like to live in a city vs living in the country. I feel 100x safer in OK walking the streets vs DFW, which has grown seemingly exponentially since leaving in 22.

Moved from a city in CA with a population of 1.7million (just my city) to a town in OK with a population of 1k. It's paradise here, I have land with ponds and dogs, leave my home and car unlocked regularly and between my dogs and guns, I feel 100 times safer here than in CA where I was assaulted multiple times, home broken into twice, car window smashed and laptop stolen while eating at a 5 star restaurant... no comparison. It's all relative. Visit San Francisco, Chicago, Downtown LA, Detroit, etc... I've regularly visited all for business and never felt safe.

My precious nephew was killed in Ardmore 2 years ago. He was shot accidentally, in his home, 2blocks from the hospital. He was not given help for almost 2 hours... The police would not allow the EMTs in & told a curious neighbor that it was a "drug deal gone bad!" (Not true!)They let him die! His father was born and raised in Ardmore. Sadly, the family moved away. There are good people there but I would NEVER live there. (it's pronounced PottoWATomie). Thank you for doing this.).

There havent been any gang sh**tings, no homelessness, no trash covering the whole block, no drug dealers right behind my home, no getting attacked by homeless schizophrenics, no miles long homeless tent camps, i cam wear whatever color I want outaide, i can go iut after dark...and so much more.

When it comes to murder statistics it can be important to distinguish between murders that happen in families and murders from strangers. Someone once told me that Oklahoma has a higher percentage of murders within families. Although that’s disturbing in itself, unless your family is wacko you’ll be safer than somewhere where you might be murdered on the street by a stranger. Just to keep in mind. Also although it might seem corny I agree that a person ought to go by their gut instinct of how a community makes you feel. Do you feel safe or do you feel like you have to watch your back?

Colcord is one such place. Theft is rampant in that area. Drugs are rampant in that area also. No one cares. Kansas OK is the same. A lot of low life, do nothing type, people live in these areas. Okmulgee can seem a little dangerous at times but I’ve never personally felt unsafe. I’m not saying the victims of violent crime deserve it because they obviously don’t, but if you’re not going to dangerous places and dealing with dangerous people, I’d say you’re pretty safe anywhere in Oklahoma.

You should visit the depressing country town of Ardmore Alabama-Tennessee, it's on the state line, the police work on both sides, it use to be full of bars on the north side considering the Alabama side was dry since the start of the state's existence, but now is wet, but today most of the bars are gone being replaced by Dollar Generals, gas stations, powerball lottery stores, (TN side) the triple X theatre downtown is now a Chinese restaurant, the town does boast the best buffet restaurant within miles.

My college roommates little sister was ‘died’ unexpectedly in Stilwell many years ago when we were at OSU. I use quotes there because she did not die alone, I do not believe it was due to natural causes…and the people who were with her were pretty quiet about what happened. I think one f of the people involved was a very good high school ball player…something like that. From what I recall, no one was ever charged/convicted for any crime relating to a 16yo girl ending up not alive after being with some guys around her age one night.

Linden Oklahoma for most of my life. Someone trying to break into my apartment one morning at 3:00 turned out it was too 14-year-olds who thought I was not there. Two 14 year olds being 14-year-olds. Until they saw the barrel of my Thompson staring at them. As soon as I realized he was in what they were I let him go to their parents. The only issue I've ever had in Oklahoma and that was 30 years ago. I think there's a lot more States out there a lot more dangerous than Oklahoma. I don't know if this gal is just doing all the states or what but. Come on girl get real with it if you're going to talk about crime. Talk about another state. It's not that I'm really butthurt that she picked Oklahoma. It's just that all these other towns and these other states are so much worse.

U can't pin ur singular experience with the safety of an entire state. There are some pretty bad towns here. Wewoka has been going through a gang war for example with multiple shootings in a week. When I lived in del city as a kid, we were robbed 4 times, had a gta attempt on our car, and had to call the police cuz on two occasions a drunk then a druggie had veered into our front yard, their wheels spinning in the mud right in front of our house. My friends in lawton were robbed multiple times in the same house they had for a year. Oklahoma isn't the worst, but it's not good when you look at the actual numbers reported by the fbi. We're #14 most violent. It all depends on the area and town
