It is a standard. The devs omitted because of the cinematics and how the camera never breaks perspective. There's almost certainly some issues with cut scenes, but at least people can choose now.
That's so glaringly fisheye to me that I could never play at max FOV. I will say though that playing at 21:9 makes a pretty significant difference, without making the overall look of the game seem so "off". Biggest problem with the game was the FOV during combat, because it felt so claustrophobic, with you not really having a good situational awareness (oh boy flashing arrows!), but having it set to 21:9 mostly does away with that. I'm assuming using them both in conjunction will be the preference of many though.
I like the 50 fov offset because i like the extra information displayed. I also like ultra wide 21.9 but get a little botheted about losing vertical space. You cant have your cake and eat it too. I wonder what a 21.9 aspect ratio or 32.9 aspect ratio would look on a 48inch lg tv that was theoretically built with extra width (the tv would then be bigger than 48inches). It would be more than 4k pixels, so it wouldnt be too practical to run. The neo g9 isn't as tall or pixel dense as a 4k 48inch, i wonder if owners miss the vertical space.
If this game was original, the one-shot footage concept would have been cool. But in God of War, it painfully limits how much we actually see the world. Jormangandr is the world tying serpent! And the game barely shows the grandeur of its presence. Even the PSP games showed how big the myth of Greece was.

@@Cheatman5 very often memory leaks in games aren't a thing. 16gb-ists don't realize that having 32gb or more simply stops the issue: if it were a memory LEAK it'd expand infinitely regardless of the amount of ram and kill performance or eventually the system.
why we don't get this in the pc version in the first place as it was a console game and we just got a port why developer's don't think of adding in fov sliders for pc and other things
21:9 users, keep in mind that this does 0 to your FOV nor does it zoom your camera out. Its to enable increased FOV for 16:9 and 16:10 setups. I tried and thought it would zoom my camera out further on the FOV, this isn't the case. cheers
Another reason to double dip!!!! Wide FoV is a big gamechanger, almost makes it feel like the ps2 classics with the isometric camera. Unfuckinreal! This is why imo God of War 3 is still the best GoW game hands down, I dare say the best hack n slash out there and one of the best action adventure games of all time in terms of atmosphere and revolutionary boss fights that pioneered the genre forward like few other games did. If only they can port GoW III Remastered to Steam. It's a ps4 game afterall, no excuse!!!!!
I think the default fov is tide to the ingame cinematic, Maybe thats the reason why they did not include the fov in the gow settings... anyway gotta try dis widescreen cuz i dont like the defualt one lol
Anyone noticing any input lag on a controller when using this FOV fix? I have noticed that things like switching weapons is much less responsive when using this. Not a PC performance issue since I'm on a 10900K + 3090. I notice if I turn off the FOV fix I can switch weapons instantly almost any time, but with it on there are clear times when it seems to eat my input or be very slow.
May I ask you why you can't record your screen with ShadowPlay? Perhaps it is easy to solve in your case, just press ALT+Z, Settings (cogwheel) and then Privacy Control and allow ShadowPlay to record your desktop. Otherwise thank you for explaining this fix for God of War!
I have it set to record to desktop, but when I changed the setting in game in killed the recording and I would have to sync my audio again to the game.
Yes. Cutscenes are usually more demanding and the game is usually loading assets for the next section of the game while they play out to avoid loading screens.

Use the resolution scaling, if using dlss then I guess u can't, it using fsr the TAA res scaling is better at upsaling 1440p and above

The idea is you can see how far it can go so you can then dial in it to where it looks good to you

That's cool. A lot of folks will dig being able to customize FOV. I like it at default, but to each his own.
FoV makes kratos small.. also weightage of the player is not that good. Close to the screen is good. Like death stranding and GTA FOV is very good
