G'day mate, Thats wicked you have setup a wood fire setup in your backyard. The marinated chicken is a really nice meal, so glad to hear that yours turned out well tonight. Thanks mate for your reply. Cheers Tim.
I am a Boiler Maker by trade, so I have a few goodies to, I made my stuff myself, I have a Stainless bucket like yours, but I rolled the stainless, and welded it up, I have long stands that you dump on the fire, put all your pots, fry pans on them, I open the tinned veggie's slightly, peel the wrapper off, and place on the stand, one has fold up legs, on the other one, has fixed stainless legs, with foot grating, heavy duty mesh on the longer one. A lot of people to feed, when we go away, I have five kids myself, plus the Grandchildren, so it adds up. For the meat, I dig a hole on the side of the fire, and Criss Cross the foil about a dozen times, put the meat on the coals after they have cooled a bit, and put some on top as well. the meat we use is chickens, lamb, and Italian sausages for lunch, from the local butcher,he should get a medal for them, Chevaps Croation Sausage to, change the coals in an hour and a half dig the meat out and redo the coals, takes about 3 hours to cook slowly, no rush. Every Saturday night when we go away we have Souvlakis, Gerry's Pittes are the best, I havent had any complaints so that's the main thing.
G'day Harry, Thats great mate that you are in the trade to make all of your own campfire cooking gear. That way you know its going to be quality gear and last a long time. I haven't seen a round jaffle iron, but anything cast is gold - plus the billy/kettle. You proved the value of the billy with the sachet gravy for the roasts. I’ve got most of that gear too. I’ve got3 camp ovens all different sizes, but always take the large one. The others are when I do longer trips. Thanks mate for dropping from the UK.
Like you, i have been camping for a long time and i really do enjoy the simple things of camping as it shows in the gear i use.
Thanks mate for your reply and you have a great Christmas and new year.
Cheers Tim.
Good stuff buddy 👍👍👍merry Christmas and safe new year 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Thanks for that.
You have a great Christmas also.
Cheers Tim.
If anybody is watching and thinking about buying a camp oven, you absolutely should. I thought it might be too much hassle and difficult to cook properly. I’ve done beautiful juicy chicken and fantastic beef joints, all without fuss. I love using mine - especially with a few beers or a glass of red.
The camp oven is fantastic to cook meals in on the campfire.
You’ve cooked up some pretty nice meals mate.
Top stuff.
Cheers Tim.
Great tip with the SS bucket.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Thanks David,
The SS bucket is the go, and works well in the campfire.
Thanks mate. You have a great Christmas and new year as well.

Good video Tim
I've had my billy for 22 years and still going strong.
All the good gear there mate. Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Love the old stuff Tim, I'm the same way as far as having things that have been with me for years. They really don't make stuff that well made anymore. I'm actually on the search for an old Billy can. Cheers and thanks for the video. 👍
The old gear is great quality stuff. But, as you say, not sure if the quality is anywhere near as good.
Hope you find one mate.

Thanks Tim, interesting and informative, love the waffle tongs, I’ve never used them but a good excuse to try them out. Here in Europe (UK) we don’t get a lot of opportunity to cook on campfires but when we do, it’s great fun eh? Keep the videos coming they are just the thing being corvid isolated ( we are on tier 4 which is almost lock down) so these videos are are real “ lift” . So, thanks again and Best regards
Gday Billy,
Thanks mate.
The toasted sandwich maker is a ripper to cook up with on the campfire.
I’ve got a video coming out very soon on how I use the toasted sandwich maker.

It’s not great times in the UK at the moment.
I really hope that they can get on top of things into next year.

Great vid Tim, when you mentioned oiling up your cast iron cookware what is the best oil to use without effecting the flavour of what's being cooked.
Gday mate,
I just use olive oil. Works well i have found.

My pan's carbon steel. A bit lighter but cast is great. Merry Christmas Tim!

@@timbates4wdadventures Thank you Tim! I’ve been looking at some cast iron frying pans for our up coming trip from New York City to Montana. Your videos have inspired us to get more adventures with our camp oven. I picked up a trivet for our camp oven as to not burn the food.

G'day Bates, what are your thoughts on the spun steel Bedourie camp oven? I got one from kings store?
Gday mate,
I’ve never used one. Only a cast iron camp oven.
I reckon cooking times would be totally different between the two materials.
I just like cast iron because it would hold its heat a lot better than a spun steel camp oven.
See how yours goes mate.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi Tim
Great videos, thanks.
What size is your camp oven?
G'day Nigel,
Thanks mate.

Hi Tim, another interesting video and I have two questions.
1. The grills you use to Cooke steak and chicken, how do you clean them, do you bird the residual food of or wash and if yes with what ?
2. If you were a coffee drinker, what would you use to make ?
Cheers mate
Gday Rob,
I just clean it off in the camp fire.
Burn off what’s left on the mesh, works well.
I’m I drank coffee while camping, I’d get one of those coffee percolator and sit it in the coals of the camp fire.
They work well and smell amazing when they are brewing.
Hope that helps mate.
