Diana is 18 years old now , I was watching a question & answer with Diana , at the time she was 17 years old and she said her singing voice was 2 tones lower and she was worried it would go even lower , she said she was working on her upper range .

I have been listening to more of her music lately. As she matures, I would love to see her transition into a true dramatic contralto. She already has some operatic qualities when she sings, if she chooses to go in that direction, do you think she has the potential to develop into a mezzo or contralto that opera companies would actively seek out?

Эффект Дианы проявляется не только в ее уникальном голосе, но и в ее погружении в песню, в драматизме, в эмоциональном заряде, который она посылает аудитории. Диана проделала довольно большой путь со времен шоу "Ты супер". Теперь у нее и сольный альбом есть, более-менее активная концертная деятельность, учеба в ГИТИСе и растущая армия поклонников. At the age of about 13 she auditioned on a show for children and sang/yodeled. It is called 'Jodel Time'...really extraordinary...the audience absolutely loved her but the judges didn't turn their chairs around, even though they were obviously fascinated by her voice. They asked her to sing something else and she sang a French song acapella...but she was not chosen. What did she do? As the audience cheered her, she went up and gave the judges a hug! Completely captivating performer, even at the age of 13!
And also you could do 'Wicked Game' and 'Rechenka' both at the age of about 15 in singing contests... utterly spectacular voice! Also she sings a beautiful and uplifting 'Into the Sky!' Enjoyed your comments on her....the background is as extraordinary as the performer. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment.
Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on RUclips. Two months ago, at the age of 18, her first performance during a new Russian television competition with several other renowned performers, has gone viral and has garnered hundreds of RUclips 'reaction' videos, and millions of viewers. Her first song at the competition, an entirely new take on Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love with You' has been called mesmerizing, transcendental and other-worldly...it highlights her uniquely deep voice, and effortless range from low to high, along with her trademark dramatic and passionate interpretation. Diana Ankudinova sings mostly in Russian, English and French. She has also sung in other languages including Spanish, German and Arabic. A viewer: 'At the age of 5 she couldn't speak her own language, and now she is this angelic singer that the world will soon discover! How can one watch her and still doubt past lives?'

Maggie Renee! Great reaction! I had been waiting for you to react to this song by Diana just because of the higher notes she does in her melisma. What it looks to me like is, this song is pitched right between Diana's extremes. She probably can't go much lower than that C3 for now and she probably can't comfortably go much higher than that B flat 5. As you point out, the C3 is rather breathy on the low end. And while the first parts of her melisma looks effortless, no strain in her face, when she has to climb to that B flat 5 she appears to be working a bit for it. But since this is a competition the song was arranged to showcase her range ... it spans nearly 3 octaves! As for the top judge, you are right in your identification. Yusif is the guest judge. All the other judges are fellow competitors, which is why the blond lady, Yuliya, displayed cobra pose at the end. They have to compete against that! You should have watched a bit farther into the video ... the first commenter on Diana's performance was Yusif. Oops, edited to add ❤ 😊

Yep, that was Yusef Eiwazov there, as one of the judges. The judge in red is Yulia Parshuto, a fine singer herself. In this competition show, which Diana won, the contestants also acted as the judges. This was the first episode of the 8-episode series and I think what you are seeing is a bunch of judges realizing that they lost before the show ever really began. 😀 I think for now classifying her a contralto makes sense; this is the range she seems most comfortable in, but as you can see, she has worked hard to extend her range a great deal. I watched, as well, a video of her doing some enunciation and language training, which was pretty intense, but will allow her to vocalize English even better than she does now- for example, getting the 'v' sound in the word word "love" properly articulated, while it is missing at present (i.e. "luhw"). But for only 18, and singing already is something like 6 languages, holy cow! Where will she be even 4 years from now? She is the most compelling singer I am aware of. And I say this loving Kate Bush, Grace Slick, Diamanda Galas, Annie Haslam, Kiri Te Kanawa AND Anna Netrebko!
The working hard part is so true. There are several videos on RUclips that show her training sessions and they look quite grueling but the results speak for themselves. I am not, however, aware of the one that you mention which makes me sad as I love this type of background information to assist me in my appreciation of Diana. Any chance that you have a link to it? I can not even imagine where she will be in 5, 10 years. The changes over the last several years have been phenomenal and only seem to be accelerating as she gets older. Great company there, too!

Yousif Eyvazov was much more enthusiastic about this performance than Maggie. :) Yes, so far Maggie has been the only one to recognize a famous opera singer on the show. Too bad Maggie didn't choose the clip, which contains Yousif's comments; I bet she'd be interested to hear what he had to say.

Diana's community misses you. She has a Folky, shamanistic pop-like song similar in character to Rechenka you should watch (for your own enjoyment if nothing else) - Bopoha (The Crow). It's from this same Television program. They sang songs from different genres each week for 2 months where 9 singers performed each show then critiqued and ranked each other. It was a nice family friendly show that features talented singers. Real singers...not T&A with rhymes and riffs (I'm in mourning over most western mainstream music)...so yeah. Enjoyed your insight. You are beautiful as usual.

It is an interesting competition. The judges are also contestants. All of these judges/contestants are accomplished singers. If you get the chance, you should watch all of the performances. And yes, Diana did win even against such an amazing field of singers.

recently discover Diana....and have enjoyed watching opera singers reactions...and of ALL that I watched, Maggie is the ONLY one to recognise Yusif! 🙌🙌🙌
Her "swallowing the mic" worked very well with her open throat and breathy singing style. The microphones that Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton used in the video you reviewed was much more sensitive, so that if you were projecting your voice you had to move the mic away from you. Or you could just sing normally and move the mic around to strengthen or soften your voice. The microphone that they used, you had to find that sweet spot, 45 degree angle below your mouth about 12 inches away from you, otherwise your were either screaming at or whispering to everyone. ;)

I've been waiting for your reaction to this performance. The gentlemen who was standing up near the end of her performance I heard is an opera singer. He sure seemed impressed as I believe it was the first time ever hearing her. I still can't believe she is only 18! Boy does she have some POWERFUL pipes. I can't imagine what it would be like to hear her in-person. I'm just listening on my cheap laptop speakers and I get goose bumps! She did 9 songs during this show and ended up winning against the older more seasoned performers.
