  • In this video I cover a step-by-step guide on how to laser engrave a full wrap tumbler! We'll go over rotary placement and setup, testing your settings, adjusting steps per rotation, and placing a full wrap design in Lightburn. I'm using a gorgeous, patriotic tumbler design from HumbledBeginning on Etsy that you can get free if you purchase my rotary clamp system for the Omtech (or cloudray, Amazon, eBay) 4 Wheel Rotary. Did I miss the part where you talked about focusing on a tapered cup? It looked like smaller end was tilted up, but was hoping for some info on how you determine this adjustment.

I started to talk about it around the 09:45 mark, but then I think I 'squirrel'd' and started talking about the placement tool. You want to raise the rear of the cup so that you have a fairly even distance from the nozzle to the cup across the whole length. It won't be perfect... you may be a able to be at your focal distance (mine is 18mm) at the front and back of the cup but the center will be a bit close (like 15mm) . With cups like the one in this video you'll always have one area that's not perfect since the cup isn't a single taper angle. The 'longer' lens you use (2.5", 3", or 4") will allow you to have a larger focal range without being too defocused (although your spot size increases and you lose detail).

Thank you so much for using my design in this video! I wouldn't have been able to make any of these designs if it wasn't for purchasing your rotary attachment! Your attachment completely changed how this rotary performs and saved from needing to buy a $800+ Piburn rotary. I have a chuck rotary I got with my Fiber laser but it takes so long to get tumblers straight and doesn't fit a lot of the popular tumblers, the 4 wheel rotary is easier to setup and I can engrave just as fast now without worrying about slipping. So giving you the files to sell with your attachment is the least I could do after how much it saved me. Great video too! it has so much helpful information and I also love how the image turned out on that tumbler. Glad to see the new laser space too, having a temperature controlled environment when working with this stuff is always helpful for the laser and for you lol.

Very good and we explained. Just what I was looking for. Can you do a video on how you do your setup in lightburn? How you setup the profile for the rotary, the x & y placements, the origins, just an overall lightburn setup. I just got the chuck rotary and it has been a bit intimidating to setup. I get it hookup and somewhat running but I am always playing around in lightburn with no real setup guide lines to follow until I get familiar enough to swap it in and out. It would be a great help for me and I am sure many many more out there looking. Thank you. Keep up the great work.

Thank you for these videos! I just did my first full wrap and had a slight error. Some of the lines in my designs came out 'wavy' I wish I could add a photo to show it. Do you think that is because the tumbler wasn't properly lined up on the rotary? Or could it be caused by something in my lightburn settings?

It's hard to say without seeing the problem, but two things that come to mind that you should look into are Scan offset and making sure that your lens is not loose. Both can give a wavy result.
