  • To connect your iPhone 15 to a TV or Monitor using HDMI is super simple. Using this USB C to HDMI DP Alt Mode cable is a simple case of connecting the USB C end of the cable to your iPhone 15 and the HDMI end of the cable to your TV or monitor.
    Doing this will automatically put your iPhone 15 into screen mirroring mode and screen mirror your iPhone 15 screen to the connected HDMI TV or monitor.
    Like I said in the video, this is the easiest way to connect an iPhone 15 to a TV or monitor and you do have the option to do wireless charging. I will be doing more videos showing iPhone 15 desktop setups and iPhone 15 gaming setups.
    These videos will show the iPhone 15 with a USB-C dock that allows you to connect monitors, keyboard, mice, SSD storage drives, ethernet for internet, SD cards and whole bunch of stuff.

  • @KevinMuldoon

    That's a handy little cable Dave. You could create a hub that would normally be used with iPads. For example, when you connect the iPhone to the usb type C hub, you're automatically connected to your monitor, keyboard and game controller. 👍

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 месяцев назад +1

      Alright, Kevin. Yes, it’s a super useful cable and it works great with the iPad Pro and the S23 Ultra for DeX and the the Flip 5 for screen mirroring. This would be great with your Fold 4 for mirroring and DeX. As for a hub, have I got the perfect solution 😂 I’ve been testing a few docks and some with every connection you could possibly want for your iPhone, videos soon 👍 And did you know you can use a 18TB hard drive with your iPhone 15 😂 Cheers, Dave.

    • @KevinMuldoon

      @@DavidHarry I have four 18TB drives which I need to stick in a NAS...or just sell and go fully nvme for storage (which is tempting given prices at the moment).
      I'll need to pick up one of these cables.

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@KevinMuldoon Alright, Kevin. Yes, NVME is much better pricing than it used to be. I’ve even been using slower, high capacity NVME for mid-term archive and less important daily storage. However, I still use large hard drives for proper long term archiving, the cost per TB is still way better and you don’t care so much about speed when hard drives aren’t your main media drives. Plus, hard drives will last a lot longer as stored drives and won’t suffer cell degradation and loss of charge and data as NAND will on SSDs when left in storage as long term archive. I also don’t buy SATA SSDs anymore unless they’re for certain SATA only usage (Atomos Ninja V as an example) or unless they are for specific tutorials. In fact, I try not to buy any NVME SSDs below 4TB for personal and production use. I only buy smaller capacity NVME for RUclips demonstrations of certain stuff (the amount of people who moan that you are “unnecessarily” recommending “massive” NVME storage that “most” people “will never need” and is “faster than you need” is just staggering). Take a look into the WD SN850X NVME SSDs. I use these and they are awesome. They sustain their high speed constantly with massive data dumps and don’t slow down like cheaper NVMEs that don’t use fast NAND for the main storage and DRAM for caching and buffering. I’ve seen the 4TB versions get as low £249 on Amazon. Although, these are Gen4 and do get hot, so you need good heat sinks and cooling inside a PC or an enclosure with good heat dissipation or active cooling for external storage. There’s also versions with pre-applied heat sinks, which are great in well ventilated PCs. Using these WD SSDs in my ACASIS enclosures for my Mac is effectively like using the internal storage when doing video editing etc. Defo get that USB C to HDMI cable. It’s one of the most expensive out there but it is solid. It even performs better than some of my docks, as some of my docks lose video sync momentarily every now and then which causes black frames that totally destroy game capture. The only problem with cables like these is that you can’t charge at the same time but you can use wireless and MagSafe for charging and you can’t use Ethernet as the USB C port is used with the cable, which is a bummer for gaming unless you’ve got low latency, fast wireless to your router (for gaming). This is the only reason I use docks, usually for the Ethernet as well as the HDMI and also charging when mobile gamimg. Anyway, I’ve got more stuff coming up over the next few weeks that may be interesting as far as docks and desktop/gaming setups for the phones and tablets are concerned. Cheers, Dave.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@DavidHarry I'llcheck those WD drives out. I don't usually go with the cheap brands for SSDs. I try and stick to Samsung and other good brands as I've had drives fail before.
      I have a 4TB 2.5" drive in my main PC. I took the hard drives out due to the noise, but if probably stick the nas in a cupboard or something so if never hear it.
      I do need to review whether I should keep backups of all my RUclips content as I rarely go back and use it, so it's perhaps a waste storing the original files long term.

    Just realized that you said that the heat problem was even that bad on the Pro Max. Dang. With medium settings though upon release, it should definitely be fine, especially with that cooling fan if needed (it always gets great performance reviews) because I just got done with a 2-hour run on the new Resident Evil Village iOS with medium-high settings, maximum shadows and realistic lighting/sunrays galore and apparently the screen only dimmed ever so slightly-I honestly didn’t even notice that it did until I exited the game, it was still that bright. And brightness means a lot to me, so that shows. No other performance throttling than that. Apple really finally did something right with this phone! I can only imagine how much better it will be once I can upgrade with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. We’ll probably be able to run these games high settings without the device even breaking a sweat, because it’s already almost there

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, my the time we get to the 17, maybe even the 16, we should be getting to the point where we are playing similar games to a console and maybe a low end desktop.
      I’ve tried Resident Evil Village on my 15 but was quite disappointed. The frame rate was quite low when using the graphics settings that looked good. The phone got warm but not too much, and it still had issues.

    Harry. With an iPad Pro I found the joy of streaming Apple Tv movie purchases in Dolby Vision 4K to an external monitor. I now purchase an iPhone 15 Pro. The experience is not identical. With an iPhone 15 Pro on 5G cellular ( 300+ mb/s ) there is streaming glitches and artifacts that do not happen when switched over to WiFi. Now in comparison I grab my iPad Pro and do the same tests with the same movie and same ISP accounts. The streaming is exceptional over 5G and Wifi. I wonder if anyone else can come up with similar results. I am concerned that the iPhone is inferior to iPad with less bandwidth over USB -C ( fact )

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 месяцев назад

      Hi. That’s odd, I have the iPad Pro M2 and M1 and haven’t noticed any difference between them and the iPhone with streamed content. The iPhone is way lower for bandwidth on its USB C port compared to the iPad Pros that have Thunderbolt. However, its USB-C bandwidth is massively higher than the bandwidth required for any video playback. Cheers, Dave.

    That’s too bad, but it’s liveable. I found this video because I was trying to fix the aspect ratio in CoD mobile and Genshin haha. I seen your warzone was almost filling the screen tho? When I play CoD mobile it’s in a box and surrounded by black. At least in your example warzone was in widescreen, which is more doable than the annoying black border I have in CoD mobile and Genshin.

      Hi, Ray. I’m glad you liked the video. I don’t use Zoom so don’t know how the connections work with it. However, with FaceTime the OS on the Mac will sense the iPhone when it’s in range of it via the same network (also pier to pier I think via their wireless functions, similar to AirDrop) and the Mac will offer the iPhone as a camera option. They both have to have WiFi turned on and I think Bluetooth as well. Sorry I can’t be anymore specific. Cheers, Dave.

      @@rickray Ahhh, I get it now, Ray. I use external HDMI recording hardware to record a HDMI output from the iPhone using a USB C dock to connect the iPhone to my HDMI recorder. I then import the recording from my HDMI recorder of the iPhone screen into my editing software and do all the zooming and editing from there. This is quite expensive to do and I wouldn’t recommend it unless it’s for something that you make money from. There may be ways of doing this in software, maybe with OBS Studio and OBS records the iPhone’s screen via a wireless connection to the Mac. I’m not sure though. You can also record the iPhone’s screen from within the iPhone itself and then export/airdrop the screen recording video file to a Mac and edit from there. The way that I do it is the highest possible quality, which is worth the expense for me personally as I make a lot of RUclips videos using this method. I hope this explanation is helpful. Cheers, Dave.

However, there is a USB C interface that was designed for the iPad to be a HDMI monitor and the interface also allows recording but only at 1080. This supposed to work with the iPhone as well. I have one but have not tested it on the iPhone yet but will do a video as soon as I’ve tested it. Here’s the interface I’m talking about amzn.to/3rCy0th Cheers, Dave.

    I have a Samsung monitor and a XGIMI project, a USB-C to HDMI cable and a USB-C to HDMI adapter. I connected my iPhone to the displays with the cable / adapter separately, 4 combinations in total. All combinations result in unstable signal which comes and goes with no pattern at all. Nothing were touched when all these happened. What could the possible cause be, please?

    Hi David. I tried connecting my iPhone to a monitor either the hdmi to usbc2 connector. I want to change my audio output to my phone since I don’t have a speaker in my monitor. Is that possible?

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  5 месяцев назад

      Hi. I've never noticed the phones sending audio to their internal speakers when connected to a TV or monitor via USB or Lightning. If you are using an iPhone 15 you can use a USB C dock that has a headphone/audio output or maybe try and see if Bluetooth audio works when using HDMI. In general, iOS and iPadOS send the audio to whatever audio capable output was last connected and you don't get options for the audio output, at least not with the current versions of iOS and iPadOS. Certain audio apps may allow you to select the audio destination but that's the app and not the operating system. Cheers, Dave.

    Hi thanks for a the video great content however I would like you to help me out if you can please.
    I have iPhone 15 pro max and need advise on how to set it up correctly to enjoy 4k content at 120hz if possible. I have bought many leads and tried many of them and the max output i am getting is 1080p with the setup. Can anyone help me to ensure I enjoy the content to maximum quality.Thanks

      Hi, Michael. Unfortunately, the 15 Pro Max can't do 120Hz over HDMI, it will only do 60Hz up to 4K. The cable used in this video definitely does 4K/60. Cheers, Dave.

    There are MagSafe cooling fans that should be good enough to play games without any thermal throttling

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 месяцев назад

      Yes there are but they definitely won't keep this phone cool enough for gaming with games like Warzone. Seriously, even an ice pack under the phone will only last about 20 minutes or so, before the phone becomes to hot again and thermal throttles. This phone is a lot hotter than anything I have ever had. Cheers, Dave.

    • @khfan9437
      @khfan9437 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@DavidHarry hmm, well hopefully the fan will be good enough once the game is better optimized upon release next year. Usually the optimized products upon official release run better, plus running it on just the phone vs using an external monitor might be even better for temps too, especially when using the Razr MagSafe fan that actually has a functioning coldplate, but I guess only time will tell. I’m getting the 1TB 15 Pro Max, so I will be back with an update on thermal performance with that game when it comes out for the phone. I’ve always been disappointed with iPhone heating issues and gaming, so let’s hope that Razr fan helps at least when just using the phone itself, if we have to for long sessions like you would on past iPhones

    • @khfan9437
      @khfan9437 9 месяцев назад

      @@DavidHarry I also feel like the fan with the coldplate would be much, much better than an icepack because it will be perfectly against the back of the phone and absorbing the heat + airflow vs just an ice pack kind of ruggedly touching the back, absorbing barely any heat from the device itself, but yeah time will definitely have to tell for this one

    • @DavidHarry
      @DavidHarry  9 месяцев назад

      @@khfan9437 Hi. Yes the iPhones have been quite bad for heat. I've just got the standard 15 and will be testing that in some videos for overheating, especially with Warzone. The heat problem is the same whether you're playing on the phone's screen or on an external monitor. Although I don't play touch (I'm useless that's why I play with a controller) when testing with touch play the same thing happened with the heat. I absolutely agree, once the game is in final release they should have sorted the heat issue. Warzone will still definitely heat the phone up but it has to get better than what it is now. Surprisingly, CoD also heats the phone up but not as much and the phone doesn't seem to thermal throttle and CoD plays amazingly. Cheers, Dave.

    • @khfan9437
      @khfan9437 9 месяцев назад

      @@DavidHarry oh ok, and good to know you just have the normal 15 because the Pro and especially Pro Max should have even less heat since it can run the game more efficiently with the better chip, and the Max’s bigger size to allow more heat dissipation on top of that, but I guess we’ll see
