They had planned to release this concert on VHS/DVD but they had sound issues on most of the songs that would have cost 6 figures to correct. I think they put all the songs that didn't have issues on one of the R40 packages.
Neil was playing 'traditional' grip (sideways) verses 'matched' grip that he usually uses. Lots of jazz drummers use traditional grip.
Shortly after this concert Neil's daughter died in a car crash, and he told the band to consider him retired. He lost his wife to cancer within a year. I didn't expect to ever hear Rush again.

this song always gets me being that i'm from Ontario Canada. the part where Neil writes about the "young girl with a night of brutality." He's talking about terrible serial killer wife and husband duo that ended some girls. Paul Bernardo is still locked up. but the wife "Karla" got out earlier cause she gave out info.

Great reaction. I hope we hear you reacting to more RUSH in the future. Thank you Todd!

Oddly, although I was in attendance at the [then named] Molson Ampitheatre that evening, I completely missed the news of Peart's twin tragedies in September of that year or in the summer of 1998 (or at least I have no recollection of it today).
It wasn't until 2005, when my first wife (of 13 years) took her own life that I reconnected with Rush (and with Peart's Ghost Rider book in particular).
To be fair, Blue Rodeo had taken over top spot for me from around 1998 to that point anyway though. And it was their music that really helped me recover.
Still, I did get to see Rush a few more times before they retired. Blue Rodeo, on the other hand, I've seen almost a couple dozen times since.

It's also hard to believe that my second wife and I just celebrated our 18th anniversary a few days ago. My, how time flies!

I still have the cut out story of Neil's families loss.😢 His 1st wife passed from cancer within a year I believe. Just the start of Neil's bike ride across the country. 5 years later the came back. 😊 newspaper article

Plenty of time for Rush, but more should be dedicated to Talk Talk. One cannot stop at five songs!

Neil did marry again. He met his second wife Carrie Nutell in California. They had a daughter Olivia and he was teaching her to drum. Unfortunately it wasn't too long after he was diagnosed with cancer. So sad he didn't have more time with them and Geddy and Alex.

Rory, FYI Alex and Geddy just joined Blue Rodeo on stage (May 23) for a tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. It's on the site Acoustic Eddie.

that chorus to me is what we don't see in a haunting sadness mix with a glory mix being as an example I may liked celebrities as heroes James bond or superman or cheech and chong in the seventies lol, but it was nobody's hero when my mom worked three jobs to feed us so, once in awhile we could afford to see a fake hero on the big screen lol in comparison. ode to all the unsung heroes great song listen to the studio just for yourself sometime, the string section in the chorus nice and i agree with your insight rush right on, and with a.i. Simon and Garfunckel could sing the lyrics lol

I don't think they got a great sound recording of this live performance, even though Rush is perfect as always. The studio version of "Nobody's Hero" has a nice crisp acoustic guitar with the lyrics and a background orchestra really booms in the second chorus.

If memory serves, it was because they weren't satisfied with the recordings of this performance that it wouldn't find its way to DVD (or at least not as the primary product).

Rush being a 3 piece band sounds amazing live and I get this particular song does sound like a folk song. I'm a Primus fan so I understand you need phenomenal musicians to make a 3 piece work so well....plus Claypool and Getty are friends...lol...I loved this song!!!🔥

Claypool idolized Geddy growing up. It's so cool that he became an amazing bass player in his own right and later befriended Geddy...
