    rarran being confused at taking the blossom over the dragon when the dragon did nothing and the blossom solved all his immediate issues
    the rheastraza wasn't active for either player, its basically a war golem there. Meanwhile, hes down 30 hp and most of his hand is kind of unplayable. Lightbomb is reactive, finley would bury his reno, the reno isnt active, the dragon golem barely does anything, and ignis is way too slow.

    • @eewweeppkk
      @eewweeppkk 6 месяцев назад +13

      @@SkyFireYZDiscover just took up most of the design space of 'add a random' or 'summon a random' cards. Old hs was just different RNG - modern hs looks more RNG heavy because the RNG is more in your face and flashy. Losing to a rag going face twice in a row against a full stack board or summoning a random malygos to empty your low cost spells was still a supremely small chance which ruined many games.

    • @banterbosse8042
      @banterbosse8042 6 месяцев назад +4

      Yes but you have to agree that discovering the right card for your matchup albeit the best thing to do does take skill in some cases, especially predicting what ur gunna need for the future instead of discovering for answers. That rng was just actual literally random where the knifes will go how many imps will spawn and with that example its layered off of your deck building not disovering. IMO feels worse to play into then discover offs

    • @mir8651
      @mir8651 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@banterbosse8042It just doesn't. Here there is no ability to minimize risk and you are just praying randomly cards do get played or don't get played. Compare that to a few cards targeting in different ways by a juggler or who brawl will leave behind. It's not even close because the agency is much higher in old hearthstone. You can both know roughly what the random will do AND can predict it better.

    Uikyou misplayed when Cjkaka tome tampered the next turn he had aquatic form with 9 mana and a Yog on the bottom with a shield 9/9 Theotar on the other side the game would of been over if he just did that. • @clovergannon

      That was such a bad choice. Reno was even down there on the bottom too, and he would have solved both the 9/9 Divine Shield Theotar, and Prison problems. currently in hs when i play against any mage deck, 60% of their cards will only discover the cards that i then have to play against and there is absolutely nothing i can do to counteract that, since i cannot know what they discovered until they play it
    outcome of single rng events is better, rng overall feels more prevelant than ever

    • @hugomendoza5665
      @hugomendoza5665 6 месяцев назад +2

      That's for the better. The more [controlled] rng hs gets, the more replayability and accessibility the game has. The further you look back in hs, the way, way, way more boring the game was, bc the format got solved way more trivially, and nothing could sway games bc everything was set. And realistically, this only really 'hurts' the absolute top 1% of skill level. And, I'm sorry, a game is better if it caters to the other 99% more favorably.

    • @stealthyturtles
      @stealthyturtles 6 месяцев назад +1

      Back in the day, if you went against a Mage or Rogue or whatever, you had an idea after the first couple turns what type of deck they had and could play yours to get a handle on the board before you got controlled, it got overwhelming, they became to tanky, or whatever power spike/ramp they had for their class/deck. Sometimes you might have a slower deck for late game that you have to play faster and rush more because your opponent is gonna overwhelm with a mid game power spike, you could predict those things. Now you have discovery all over the place and everyone’s got so much shit going on there’s not really a class identity outside of a handful of cards for the class

    You cant be serious to compare current hs metagame to gvg and say that it was just as bad or even worse back then
    First of all, yes, mc tech, brawl, sylvanas, rag, jugglers rng was often game deciding, but it was obvious that if you are playing a control warrior they might have a brawl, zoo deck will have a juggler and most likely on board at that, or if you play 4 minions you might get mc teched. There were risks that you had to take, but you could have realistically assessed the risk, while with a card like prison of yogg saron you just cant possibly do it. There are just many more effects giving you completely random cards that the opponent doesnt have an idea what they might be. The rng was there, but it was much more predictable.
    Also the dr boom power level is kind of a myth. It was powerful at the time, but it was just because it was probably the strongest active tempo swing available to players. I doubt that if it was printed today it would find place in many decks. Its not stronger than your average titan. You didnt play it because you hoped the bombs would absolutely crush your opponent, but rather to put them in a tough position thats hard to play around. Same as a titan might do today, with varying levels of rng

      How can you even believe that when tainted remnants, random windfury weapons and decks that are more than 50% "created by" are all meta.

    • @NN-cr6gx
      @NN-cr6gx 6 месяцев назад

      @@BernieDSniperTainted Remnant is more expensive Goblin Blastmage.
      Most of the time it is 7 face damage because the elemental deck plays for the board.
      On top of that 1 Juggle is much more vulnerable to a bad role, shooting 7 Missiles will more likely give the desired result.
      And that is my point. The RNG is not game deciding on its own. Go play a game of classic with a buddy and have him win the 50/50 chance on a knife juggler in a Zoo or Aggro mirror. You have lost to a 50/50. You will likely not lose to a 50/50 in the current meta, it will be a accumulation of different paths taken.

  • @TheSoulDivided

    When people refer to rng now, I feel like they're mostly talking about random card generation, which feels really different (though not necessarily worse) than something like your opponent rolling Wrath of Air Totem into a max-damage Lightning Storm (fuck old Shaman btw, the person who designed that class should be in jail)

    • @nuhrii3449
      @nuhrii3449 6 месяцев назад

      old shaman was literally the worst class that was really bad, what are you talking about. the only thing it had going for it for the longest time was battlecry shudderwock, which wasnt even that good because it takes way too many cards to reach critical mass

    • @TheSoulDivided
      @TheSoulDivided 6 месяцев назад

      @@nuhrii3449 I know it sucked; that didn't make losing to their highrolls any more fun. Plus, if we expand "old" to include league of explorers (eight years ago) we end up in the Tunnel Trogg/Crackle/Spirit Claws meta, where Shaman was at peak randomness and exceptionally strong

    • @nuhrii3449
      @nuhrii3449 6 месяцев назад

      @@TheSoulDivided that was just a basic aggro deck, no different than undertaker hunter, maybe worse, because you kill tunnel trogg, you kill totem golem, what do they do then, nothing they overloaded, you stabilized. not to mention the fact that shudderwock came out AFTER tunnel trogg

    • @TheSoulDivided
      @TheSoulDivided 6 месяцев назад

      @@nuhrii3449 You're right on the timeline, but I think you are dramatically misremembering how strong Tunnel Trogg was. If you did manage to kill their early board (including the OG four-mana 7/7) they'd just hit you with a bunch of burn spells. Also, it's way different than undertaker hunter. They have similar strategies, but undertaker was pretty low-variance, whereas trogg shaman had randomness top to bottom. Spirit Claws, for example, went from mediocre to broken if you rolled wrath of air totem on turn two

    • @nuhrii3449
      @nuhrii3449 6 месяцев назад

      @@TheSoulDivided no im pretty accurately describing the experience, you play tunnel trogg, totem golem, totem up, then play a 7/7, you lose these you basically lost because you fucked yourself with overload, you lost all your tempo and are now on backfoot the rest of the game
      but thats not good, youre just getting salty at getting randomized into oblivion, thats not the same as frost nova, or ice block, or hand- or cube-lock, or even shudderwock, consistency is much more important, and shaman has always been the most inconsistent class up till stormwind-ish, where they started to normalize everything

    My first couple games on ladder recently were 20+ minutes. Pass. If I'm going to play something so involved, I'm going to play BGs or another game. I'm so happy to have stopped giving Blizzard money.
    Is there a single classic or older card that has been buffed to be powerful enough to compete for a slot in a single meta deck? I recognize zero of these cards being played since I've not played standard the past few years. Just seems like the debt is too big to memorize all the cards, the journey is lame and grindy, and the reward is nothing.
