The sad part is that we get the “you asking a lot” by Weebay when Colvin was asking to take Namond in. That should’ve been Colvin’s line. A father should take the initiative for his son’s future. Instead, it was Colvin that took that initiative. In the real world, it doesn’t happen like that and Namond ends up dead in the street.

I hear you, but in all fairness, the street life is all Weebey knew. That is, until Bunny sold him a new dream for his son. And Weebey wanting the best for his son, saw the vision. Bunny tried to sell the same vision to his mother, and all she could do was glorify the streets, to her own son's eventual demise.

Bodie grew up with Wallace but it didn’t matter when String gave the order. Now that he wasn’t on the winning team, he was worried about the morality

I definitely agree like many others in the show, she's just another victim of circumstance but again she did fail her son. Micheal who was literally a teenager held more a 'parental figure' to his young brother but personally, I never felt that through Delonda, she always gave me 'man of the house' vibes mothers pushing that label on their young sons rather than allowing them to be young and blossom into manhood with time.

Yeah, you definitely right. She’s less evil and more a product of the circumstances that led her to her decisions. Ironic that when Brianna asked to meet with them, Delonda thought that it was because she saw Namond’s talent for the Barksdale Organization, for The Game, which would benefit her as well as Namond, but Bunny Colvin is the one to see Namond’s potential and offer him something better, which she cannot see benefitting herself, she refuses until Weebay threatens her. And while that could be seen as part of her “evil”, it’s more like she can’t see past her circumstances & situation. She’s forever a product, perhaps even a victim, of the game as well. Maybe she both. Her ignorance fueled her evilness. I would even go so far to say she wasn't ignorant at all. She made up her mind that Namond was gonna follow Weebays footsteps no matter the consequence. Straight tunnel vision. Knowing what the streets entails, and wanting her son to dive head first, is evil.

One of the Norms for serial killers is overbearing mothers and weak or absent fathers. 🤷🏿 Delonda was going to turn Naymond into a serial killer. I honestly was happy that he got a chance at life.

My dad bounced when I was a kid, and I grew up kinda wild in some rough neighborhoods on HUD an Section 8 with an alcoholic mother. I was out doing stupid shit till I was way too old be acting stupid like that, and I saw a lot of my friends, especially who had fathers who were somebody in the neighborhood, either go wild trying to 'keep up' and 'make a name' or else wither up and snap trying to avoid their own name. I think you had it right at the beginning, the weight of expectation can break a youngin even if they are internally strong. But lack of expectation can cut just as hard, being written off like a nobody from jump.
I don't know, man. But this channel is fantastic, you out here digging the knowledge and wisdom out of fiction and showing how it reflects on reality.

Spot on bruh, per usual. I had a friend just like namond. His pops wasn’t around but his mom always dating a hustler … so he was always fresh, talked the most shit, instigated. But he was never the 1 to get busy when we were young 11/12 year olds. I figured him out via this 1 incident …. We were all chilling on his porch , our group of friends and my younger brother (8 at the time) his moms starting arguing with her dude… me growing up in a household where my step father use to hit my moms I saw the signs… told my lil brother go home instantly … minute later shorty stabbed dude in the arm… my mans starting crying hysterically ran off the porch …. And I remember vividly just standing there… it was normal in a sense for me… but that day always made me see what my mans was, which was not the image he portrayed.

Great insight for the wire - enjoyed it. This actually just reminded me about a similar side story while watching the first season of the Showtime tv series Billions - the wife of one main characters (Lara Axelrod) is worried about the same ‘preparedness’ of her sons to face the challenges of her and her husband. The worried expectations of parents about the character of their children is such great dynamic/narrative to explore.

I think she was evil, manly because of own circumstances probably. She probably wouldn’t look at herself as evil. The lack of compassion or empathy she had for Dookie when she had so much. Women of my era would’ve taken shorty in, especially if he was her child’s friend.

As someone who dealt with the same type of mother, everything you say is correct. As the kid, the only option is to escape that bc being in it will only lead to poor outcomes. The mans talent is being suffocated from the inside. He is being taught that surface level and outside possessions lead to good things, as a result of that, the man doesn't know himself on the inside, which for any man is a recipe for disaster.
Weebey wanted certain things for his son, but when he saw he wasn't cut out for them he stepped away and let his son grow into what he was supposed to become, while also offering protection to the boy who was terrified of his mothers disapproval (which often happens w an overbearing mother)....this is also the mark of a good father and a good man.

Evil and wicked mean the same thing: intentionally doing what is wrong when you know how to do right. The question is: does Delonda know how to do better or is she completely ignorant of what is right and wrong. That determines is she is evil or just plain ignorant.

It's the cycle, one generation failing the next.Who knows,it might have been for the best that Bey was not hands on raising Namond.Namond's "flex" is what drove him to run away from home, and ultimately saved his life..Being just like Bey would have got Namond killed or arrested. Everything he pretended to be was what Michael actually was. Each character had what the other wanted. Stability on Michael’s side, and the strength to face the streets with courage on Nate’s side.

Delonda still stayed down she’s not evil there’s more to it than her just wanting Naymond to sell a pack. She needed not only the financial benefits of a man, she also needed that protection of a man too. That scene with DeAngelos Mom said a lot. She expected to be given something but without her man she was a shell of herself and could not reap the rewards of the sacrifices Bay has done for the organization. Remember when Bay told her it would be his word that would find her too she was shook. She didn’t have any element of a man in the house so she had to be both. She lost her dominance as a couple with Bay. Bay essentially ended the cycle by letting Nay be what he wanted to be when he let him stay with Coleman. She’s not evil she just wants what she had back and can never get it back with Bay locked down. So she naturally tries to fill the void but fails.

My first comment on a RUclips page but I gotta give u your props in these videos. The way u break shit down, the music and point out things that aren't obvious is unmatched to any other person doing wire breakdowns
As for this video, I also don't think Delonda is evil but like u pointed out I believe she is selfish but also was bad at actually really knowing her son. If she did, she would've knew he wasn't about that life. She wanted her lifestyle to continue after she was cut off from the Barksdales and wanted Namond to fill his fathers shoes so she could continue to live the life she wanted(which was not doing shit & getting paid) & the power from her son's name ringing out like Weebey's name did. That's why she felt like she could son Bodie all the time to giving Namond work even though he really didn't want to.
I'm also pretty sure she was the reason that Kenard did what he did in stealing the package from Namond. After the last clip u showed where Poot says "him from Weebay" right before that Bodie basically says don't have your mom coming to talk anymore I've done what u can for u. After this the camera cuts to Kenard saying "your mom".Kenard already viewed him as soft as this point. Then he got a promotion with only a $10 raise these 2 events made him know he was gonna take the stash cuz he knew Namond wouldn't do anything about. Which he didn't cuz it was Michael who put the paws on him & was one of the last moments that Namond knew he didn't want any parts of the game......Sorry for the long comment but appreciate the time u put into these homie
