    Japanese Akita
Also known as Akita Inu, the Japanese Akita is purebred with his roots originated in Japan. It is not mixed with any other breed.
This was the breed that Hellen Keller brought with herself to the United States. Hachiko, the famous Akita which waited 9 years at the Shibuya station after his master’s death was also a purebred Japanese Akita.
They can be found in the United States as Japanese breeders see it as a “National Monument” or a dog which glorifies their nation and ancient history.
They have a Fox-like head and almond-shaped eyes like Huskies.
    American Akita
The first American Akita came into existence in 1956. Japanese Akita had not entered into the United States until 1937.
After the Second World War was over, a lot of US Army personnel brought Akita dogs along with them to their home country.
American Akita is more muscular and has beer-like looks and head as opposed to Japanese Akita which has a fox-like head.
Later, those servicemen from U.S Army were more impressed with more muscular and larger America’s version of Akita, which was mixed with dogs like German Shepherd and acquired bear-like looks, according to Wikipedia.

The Japanese Akitainu responds best to positive training and methods that utilize their natural intelligence. They bore quickly with repetition, so short and varied sessions are more effective. Daily mental challenges and enrichment are necessary to keep dogs of this breed engaged. Because of their hunting background, Japanese Akitainu tend to enjoy using their natural instincts in nose work, barn hunt, and lure coursing.

It'd be easier to find things they do have in common 😂 they are very clearly different breeds. The first thing to look for is their muzzle. Americans have this very distinctly Mastiff, square and black muzzle. The Japanese has a completely white face (save for the brindle) with a longer and leaner muzzle.

They weren't dying out cause of other dogs being brought in! They were dying out cause the Japanese were eating them and using their fur because of the horrific conditions due to WWII.

The American Akita is the more dominant and a far better breed , the Japanese Akita is more like a Shiba Inu and less head nothing like a fox more like small headed for the body size , and now days the Japanese Akitas have a weird neck almost looks like the head and neck is fused and not functional and not as powerful , both nice but the Japanese breed also is sketchy the ones I meet timid maybe from over breeding and poor breeding is that strange small head and stiff non functioning neck to head , the American Akita is a very sturdy and brave confident breed , the best thing you could do is out cross the Japanese line Akitas to the American lines and maybe possibly get a nice healthy line of dog back , the Japanese lines now days Akita I have seen Shibas almost the same size and more game and just a nicer dog all round , I guess it's preservation and do the research before you get any dog IF you want the real deal healthy lines , I'm sure there is some real nice Japanese Akitas out there but as of lately the ones I see are not what I look for IF I was getting a Akita , oh and a as a Boxer and Pomeranian guy growing up and present and other breeds since the 70's and my brother who also of course knows the Boxers and other breeds does have a nice good size American Akita atm beautiful looking dog
