Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD has very good remastered graphics. Final Fantasy XII HD is on the way, and it looks even better. Resident Evil 4 has been remastered more than enough times to say... yes, a fine job well in milking it to death. Resident Evil Remake 2... gonna keep fingers crossed.

***** haha yeah i LOVE the history of the elder scrolls world and ive read so many books in skyrim. i played oblivion only a couple of hours when it was new and recently another couple of hours. maybe ill try and play it again soon but fantasy rpgs dont age very well in my opinion cause the combat systems often suck compared to new games eg. gothic 1+2 and witcher . ive been playing the first mass effect title for the last couple of days though and that is still very much playable imo
@@MariOmor1 Well this aged like milk, BDSP has barely added enough to the game to call it a remake. They have even neglected to put basic improvements from platinum in the game, compare that to HGSS or ORAS and it's just doesn't measure up to that standard at all.

skyrim is legendary?? compared to oblivion and morrowind it is not very good. Still a good game but not compared to the older ones. just mod the game and it will look better than the remaster
+Haxorx Skyrim was by far superior to Oblivion and Morrowind in the art of Graphical content and plot points.... Now I'm not dissing Oblivion, I loved that game but it just feels like the only reason people hang onto Oblivion was for the Dark Brotherhood Questline which in my opinion was one of my favourite gaming experiences. Sure the open world was beautiful and it felt more like a fantasy than Skyrim's slightly bland open world but Skyrim really showed a massive Improvement so I'll let Bethesda take my money again and I did the same with the Last of Us
Yeah Morrowind. Possibly the greatest ES game that fewer and fewer people will get to experience. Why wouldn't they release that for every platform? We've already had people trying to remaster it in Skyrim and Oblivion for almost ten years! It's pretty obvious that's what people want.

A lot of people liked Skyrim and it's mechanics and a lot of gamers nowadays don't even know what Morrowind is. If a game made more money and was more successful in the franchise then they are going to pick that one to re-release.
Problem with re-masters - in 99% of cases, it's just higher resolution, HD textures, some extra post processing stuff, maybe added Ambient Occlusion, nothing more. Problem with remakes - in 99% of cases, they are no longer the games we wanted to be re-made. What most people want from a re-make/remaster, is the gameplay and story from the old games put into current gen graphical engines, aka completely new from the graphical point of view with maybe very slight adjustments to better fit into the new graphical standards. Keyword, SLIGHT.
The DmC remaster is a perfect remaster imo, faster , prettier, with redubbed lines and a new ending. Best of all they added in highly requested battle tweaks. THAT was a remaster
That was a re-make (called a re-boot) actually, but ok. And it was awful. Well, it was a good game, but an awful re-make. What they did to Dante there is just... blergh. And the whole game was WAY too easy. Good game, bad DMC. Unless you meant DMC 4 SE, then not really a perfect re-master, as the graphics where again, just extra post process and nothing else done to graphics.

Fable 1 was a pretty shitty remaster to me. They overhauled the graphics too much. And they somehow made the Hero look like a slow-minded body building asshat with how his face looks compared to the original Fable.
+Last Breath Absolutely. This series started way back on the original playstation. It's the first game I played that had cut scenes and great voice acting. Biggest problem is, I don't know if anyone has the rights to it. The studio went under years ago.

YES ! San Andreas is my favorite GTA game, but Vice City comes so close to being my number one. Either game works and I'll be happy with any remaster if chosen between them.

I got Skyrim on PC on launch day and played it a lot. The mod set I want to use keeps crashing do to memory limits that the 64bit remaster shouldn't suffer from.
+Nitron DSP it's the number and size of mods combined with Skyrims tearable memory management. even without mods you can run out of the 4gb memory limit and crash if you run fast enough. my system has 32GB of ram and with everything on max settings I'm only using about 20% of my CPU and am getting 60fps
You will need the base game + DLC to get the remaster for free. That said, there are already a lot of mods that already look better but some of those mods can require a lot of work to get running. The best thing about the remaster though is that it's also being upgraded to 64 bit which means no more memory limitations.
Would much prefer an Oblivion Remaster. But i'll be purchasing the Skyrim Remaster anyway. I have literally zero worries about giving Bethesda my money, they've yet to disappoint me. ( would appreciate the Oblivion and maybe Morrowind remaster though. or make a Shivering Isles dlc for skyrim. that would be BOMB. see how far the isles have come in 200 years )
Agreed, look into SkyWind by the way - an actual "Remake" of Morrowind using Skyrim's engine in the making...not sure if it'll ever be finished but development so far looks great.

I believe I heard that they're working on implementing VR into Fallout 4. As far as I understand it, the Skyrim Remaster is basically porting Skyrim to the Fallout 4 engine, which isn't as huge an undertaking as you might think, as Fallout 4's engine is basically an updated version of Skyrim's engine. I've heard some Skyrim mods even work out of the box on FO4. Not sure if they'll backport VR to Skyrim once they have it working for FO4, but we can keep our fingers crossed. There certainly seems to be a demand for it. The Skyrim Remaster will also be 64 bit, which is pretty nice. Hopefully they'll make a few tweaks to push back the limitations of the the old Skyrim engine (things like script lag; even the best CPU will only do so much).
Tired of the same games like cod that is the same every year(I actually think infinite warfare looks good, but still disliked the trailer because well it is a bad trailer)? With so little interesting games being released every year I would very much love for a lot of older games to get proper remakes.
What if the remastered game is released with the ability of processing 12K graphics with a 12K monitor (if you can afford that expensive asf monitor)? You'll be crazy to say "no" to that type of graphics. I mean, just look at how absolutely gorgeous things look on a 12K monitor.

Dear god its so damn cringey but the game was still fun because even when grinding not only were you leveling your character stats like any RPG, the combat system though turn based required you with reaction timing so you were also gaining hand eye coordination skill in real life while playing the game which i thought was awesome. Agree. If an eight hour campaing game can be sold by sixty bucks, I don't see a problem in buying again a game that can last for three hundred hours or more.
Depends on the customer, alot people won't buy it trust me. Plus skyrim is worth every penny for everyone. Personally, i think its unfocused and because of how open-world and large it is, it's sense of story and direction is completely lost.
Long story short: *remasters* just improve the graphics, fixes bugs, & improve the gameplay but the mechanics & story are still the same. *Remakes* on the other hand changes the mechanics & there are *reboots* that changes the story & events a little bit.

Actually the new Ratchet & Clank game is more of a reboot than a remake. In other words not only did they completely do over the original game they actually made it SO different as to say that it's the start of a new franchise. When you completely rebuild the franchise as a whole from the ground up that's a reboot. I mean there's just so many differences to the story alone in the new ratchet & clank. For crying out loud Dr. Nefarious who originally didn't show up until the third game in the original series shows up right away in the new ratchet & clank reboot and is a main part of the plot even!
Even if this is true (never played the remake), making a reboot based on the first game, is still a remake. Compare it with Tomb Raider Original and the Reboot. They both totally different Games.
I, for one, am so excited for the FFVII remake! I've been hooked since 1997. Nevermind that the remake looks bloody GORGEOUS, Square has said that there will be new content in it. Along with the new battle mechanics, I think there will also be new elements tying together the story that's been expanded from the rest of the Compilation. They are also expanding the world, creating much larger cities and continents, and with that perhaps new avenues and new characters. So I'm pumped. I know a lot of people were upset because it wasn't a frame-for-frame REMASTER of the original, but I really am excited for an actual REMAKE, because the FFVII world has grown so much since the original game. A remastered version, with anti-aliased (but still classic) graphics, as well as a fixed accessories system (in the original version, the accessories actually did not increase the characters' stats, as a glitch) is already available on Steam and PS4 store for anyone who is tardy to the party and want to play the original, in its classic form. I do recommend everyone play it, because it's really one of the best games ever, with fantastic lore, interspersed humor, a very addictive turn-based battle system, and unique magic dynamics with Materia. It may not have the remaster's graphics, but it's still and always will be a classic.

That too, is using the wrong terminology. Although, an iteration is rare in the game department. Usually books do that. Remake = Reboot/re-imagination Remaster = A better version of the game. Regardless of anything except for the story. Otherwise, that is a reboot.
Re-release (Port) = Take an old game, and release it on a new/different system. Remaster = Take an old game, upgrade lighting, textures, and/or models, and release it on a new/different system. Remake = Take an old game, and remake it from the ground up on a new/different engine. Re-Imagining = Take an old game, remake it from the ground up, but change old ideas, and add new/different ideas.
Game exclusives. Cheaper (300 bucks for an Xbox that can run games for about 8 years until the next console) pc's are 500 just for a decent one and you need to constantly upgrade it. It's easier to set up an Xbox over building a pc. You can play with you friends on console (splitscreen) it's less complicated, just plug and play. With pc you need to build it, the download windows or Linux, then an antivirus because you'll be downloading lots of stuff, and when you finally finish everything it still takes a while to download games cause they're all digital
RE7 Flames There are many thousand more exclusives on the PC not including emulation. Even entire exclusive genres. Besides, console exclusivity is 100% artificial. Games to sell the hardware rather than vice versa. Like a book written to sell paper. No, a sub $400 PC can beat even a PS4 (more powerful than an XB1) quite easily so I'd bet that a $300 PC could at least match an XB1. Nope, you do not need to upgrade it constantly. PC hardware does not magically degrade over time nor does console hardware improve. Then with PCs you have cheaper games crazy sales, humble bundles, no online fees, cheaper peripherals, tonnes of free games, mods... It adds up very quickly. Even if you did have a $100 lead on price you would lose it on purchasing 2 games. What's stopping you playing splitscreen on a PC? Even having multiple TVs on the go? Or LAN parties? Same with a pre-built/built-to-order PC. Besides, saving an hour of initial set up time a custom PC needs is hardly a selling point. You only have to do it once. And it's only for custom PCs! Windows has security built in and Linux viruses are extremely rare. Besides, as long as you're not pirating, you don't need to worry. Not all digital. You can get physical copies too. Digital is better though. With consoles, you have to travel to the store, find the game, pay for it, come back then install it before you can play it. Plus you can lose/damage the disk. Digital download is just much easier and quicker.
I love both, and both have ups and downs... but 4 me, console gaming is great with friends sitting with you on the sofa... Consoles are noob friendly to turn on and use, a PC isn't so noob friendly. My dad can play the xbox but not PC due to anti virus pop ups etc...

Consider the terminology without the prefixes. Make is to make something. Starting with just tools and making something. To master (in games and film) is to finalize a version and call the finalized copy the master copy. So to remaster would be to do more work on it and make a new master. But to make it again would be to start without anything and build something new that just happens to be the same thing. So if they start from scratch, remake. If they use a base and simply modify it, it's a remaster. But this shit where companies are just remastering something from the previous console. People are still playing the original. It's a blatant cash grab.
To be very clear, both remake and remaster can end up creating the exact same thing. When you get something that's drastically different and improved, it should be called a reimagining. If you're just taking assets and making it look better, it's like you're just making a sequel, but it's not a sequel. It's the exact same game. Just, prettier.

Well, I think it might partly have something to do with covering up lingering bad feelings about paid mods, but in essence you are correct, the physical PC versions of Skyrims till gave steam keys, meaning they jsut ened to check steams database, whiel findign every single owner of a cosnoel copy of Skyrim would be not impossible, but very difficult.

Ever since Activision had the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy made (referring to it *EVERY FUCKING TIME* as a remaster), everybody's been calling remakes remasters. Same thing's happening with the recently-announced remake of SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom. Hell, back then there were even some people who thought Wind Waker HD was a remake, when it is clearly a remaster.

Also those old console exclusives that you said need a remaster of, well you can emulate them on PC using Dolphin (or equivalent emaulator) and crank up the settings essentially remastering them yourself. I have Dark Cloud 2 on PCSX2 and it looks incredible.

$60 is already too much for a brand new IP...so obviously paying that much for a Remaster...regardless of how big of a fan you are, is ridiculous. About the only time I can say $60 for a Remaster is worth it, is for something like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection...but with that, you're getting 3 fully Remastered games in one. So $20 per game is about right.

To be honest im not always happy being a PC gamer. If your hardware or software (most likely windows software) is up to date then it can cause problems with old games that you may have grown up with that you really want to blast through again or you want to play a relic of the times just to see where certain genres started off then your kinda fucked because most of these games are no longer supported by the developers with patches which falls onto fans making their own patches or if there isn't one then you may have to consult people on forums about the problem. PC is great for having state of the art hardware, software and other things but its very expensive to get a beastly gaming PC (even to build one) or beastly gaming laptop if your one of those people. Glad that we still have DOS Box and Scumm vm emulator. Im not going to turn down consoles from the NES and Master System to the 360, PS3 and even the underdog Wii. I should also mention that developers struggle with doing PC ports.

I think they should've sold it for like 30 dollars, because then it would've been more popular.
Remasters do NOT change animations, level geometry, models, voices, or gameplay. GOOD remasters don't, anyway. Remakes can be completely different, but are, as the man said, re-done from scratch. I do have LOTS of problems with the Ratchet & Clank remake, since it shits all over the original story, dialog, music, and more puzzle-based gameplay.
Also a serious note about Skyrim, it's also 64-bit compatible. A lot like Crysis 2 and 3. Meaning, it can take advantage of multi-core processors better, and isn't hacked in like Physical Address Extension (aka PAE.)
So the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title was, DMC Devil May Cray and Devil May Cry 4 HD. I can say I will give credit that DMC wanted to be it's own thing and you can go into the game without knowing about the original series (aka people who have never played Devil May Cry 1 to 4). While I give them credit, some parts of the game worked and some don't. The HD special edition gave us the old game beefed up and with more content by including new playable characters and some nostalgic returns. If you haven't played the original series you still get a good game but you need that knowledge to know why everyone was hyped Vergil was back.

You would only ever use the term "Remake" if you mean a Reboot or a Re-imagination of [example] which is usually a depiction of [example]. Even then, a Re-imagination is not a Reboot but is a Remake. In truth, most remasters are trash level which only satisfies the profit sales rather than vastly improving upon the game as a whole. Like an edited comment with small changes rather than a whole remaster of the comment's intent. To make things simple for people, yes, you can call it a Remake or a Remaster. However, as soon as you start defending those terms, then do understand how it fits within the context. "All remakes are remasters, but not all remasters are remakes." Edit: Context and nuance is key. I can take the old Crash Bandicoot and compare it to the remastered one and say... "It's a Remaster." However, I cannot say the same when I compare (example) an old Final Fantasy game with its remake that strips away the turn base system for a real time system (the game play) or if the remake kept that system but changed its lore (reboot). Graphics do not matter within this context. If the original game, when compared to the new version of it, has a drastic change in its lore and/or game play, then it is a Remake. When all you do is revamp the graphics and alter from the original game in inconsequential ways, then that is a Remaster. By "inconsequential", I mean changes that are childish for what it is. If the devs turned the Spyro Trilogy into a hack n slash game rather than an adventure game with low combat systems, then that is a remake. If the devs kept the original (not literally) and revamped the graphics along with inconsequential changes to improve the game, then that is a remaster.

haha yeah i LOVE the history of the elder scrolls world and ive read so many books in skyrim. i played oblivion only a couple of hours when it was new and recently another couple of hours. maybe ill try and play it again soon but fantasy rpgs dont age very well in my opinion cause the combat systems often suck compared to new games eg. gothic 1+2 and witcher .

Sure the open world was beautiful and it felt more like a fantasy than Skyrim's slightly bland open world but Skyrim really showed a massive Improvement so I'll let Bethesda take my money again and I did the same with the Last of Us

Yeah Morrowind. Possibly the greatest ES game that fewer and fewer people will get to experience. Why wouldn't they release that for every platform? We've already had people trying to remaster it in Skyrim and Oblivion for almost ten years! It's pretty obvious that's what people want.

Problem with re-masters - in 99% of cases, it's just higher resolution, HD textures, some extra post processing stuff, maybe added Ambient Occlusion, nothing more.

What most people want from a re-make/remaster, is the gameplay and story from the old games put into current gen graphical engines, aka completely new from the graphical point of view with maybe very slight adjustments to better fit into the new graphical standards. Keyword, SLIGHT.

That was a re-make (called a re-boot) actually, but ok. And it was awful. Well, it was a good game, but an awful re-make. What they did to Dante there is just... blergh. And the whole game was WAY too easy. Good game, bad DMC.
Unless you meant DMC 4 SE, then not really a perfect re-master, as the graphics where again, just extra post process and nothing else done to graphics.

Fable 1 was a pretty shitty remaster to me. They overhauled the graphics too much. And they somehow made the Hero look like a slow-minded body building asshat with how his face looks compared to the original Fable.

I'm going to start a new Skyrim play through the day I get the Remaster for free on my PC!
I got Skyrim on PC on launch day and played it a lot. The mod set I want to use keeps crashing do to memory limits that the 64bit remaster shouldn't suffer from.

+Nitron DSP it's the number and size of mods combined with Skyrims tearable memory management. even without mods you can run out of the 4gb memory limit and crash if you run fast enough. my system has 32GB of ram and with everything on max settings I'm only using about 20% of my CPU and am getting 60fps
I don't know if it's actually fixed but the nature of the 64bit system will make the crash take much longer to happen if it's not fixed.
If I get it I'll be doing a the same on my ps4. Loved skyrim and played that most of the time on PS3.

You will need the base game + DLC to get the remaster for free. That said, there are already a lot of mods that already look better but some of those mods can require a lot of work to get running. The best thing about the remaster though is that it's also being upgraded to 64 bit which means no more memory limitations.

I believe I heard that they're working on implementing VR into Fallout 4. As far as I understand it, the Skyrim Remaster is basically porting Skyrim to the Fallout 4 engine, which isn't as huge an undertaking as you might think, as Fallout 4's engine is basically an updated version of Skyrim's engine. I've heard some Skyrim mods even work out of the box on FO4. Not sure if they'll backport VR to Skyrim once they have it working for FO4, but we can keep our fingers crossed. There certainly seems to be a demand for it.
The Skyrim Remaster will also be 64 bit, which is pretty nice. Hopefully they'll make a few tweaks to push back the limitations of the the old Skyrim engine (things like script lag; even the best CPU will only do so much).

Dear god its so damn cringey but the game was still fun because even when grinding not only were you leveling your character stats like any RPG, the combat system though turn based required you with reaction timing so you were also gaining hand eye coordination skill in real life while playing the game which i thought was awesome. Long story short: *remasters* just improve the graphics, fixes bugs, & improve the gameplay but the mechanics & story are still the same. *Remakes* on the other hand changes the mechanics & there are *reboots* that changes the story & events a little bit.

Port - a straight transfer without any real changes.
Re-Master - an enhanced port using the original assets, cleaned up graphics, tweaked controls, minor additions (RE 1 on PS4, Shadow of Colossus PS3, Darksiders 1/2 on PS4, Dark Souls 1, Okami PS3/4, Chrono Trigger on DS)
Re-Make - Rebuild from the ground up while staying true to the source material (Secret of Mana PS4, Resident Evil 1 on Gamecube, Shadow of the Colossus PS4, Trials of Mana PS4)
Re-Boot - starting the series over from the start (Tomb Raider 2013)
Re-Iamgining - Loosely based on the Source Material with drastic changes to characters and or story (RE2/3, Wild Arms Alter Code F, FF7R, Silent Hill Shattered Memories)

Actually the new Ratchet & Clank game is more of a reboot than a remake. In other words not only did they completely do over the original game they actually made it SO different as to say that it's the start of a new franchise. When you completely rebuild the franchise as a whole from the ground up that's a reboot. I mean there's just so many differences to the story alone in the new ratchet & clank. For crying out loud Dr. Nefarious who originally didn't show up until the third game in the original series shows up right away in the new ratchet & clank reboot and is a main part of the plot even!
Even if this is true (never played the remake), making a reboot based on the first game, is still a remake. Compare it with Tomb Raider Original and the Reboot. They both totally different Games.

I, for one, am so excited for the FFVII remake! I've been hooked since 1997. Nevermind that the remake looks bloody GORGEOUS, Square has said that there will be new content in it. Along with the new battle mechanics, I think there will also be new elements tying together the story that's been expanded from the rest of the Compilation. They are also expanding the world, creating much larger cities and continents, and with that perhaps new avenues and new characters. So I'm pumped. I know a lot of people were upset because it wasn't a frame-for-frame REMASTER of the original, but I really am excited for an actual REMAKE, because the FFVII world has grown so much since the original game.
A remastered version, with anti-aliased (but still classic) graphics, as well as a fixed accessories system (in the original version, the accessories actually did not increase the characters' stats, as a glitch) is already available on Steam and PS4 store for anyone who is tardy to the party and want to play the original, in its classic form. I do recommend everyone play it, because it's really one of the best games ever, with fantastic lore, interspersed humor, a very addictive turn-based battle system, and unique magic dynamics with Materia. It may not have the remaster's graphics, but it's still and always will be a classic.

Remaster = Take an old game, upgrade lighting, textures, and/or models, and release it on a new/different system.
Remake = Take an old game, and remake it from the ground up on a new/different engine.

Game exclusives. Cheaper (300 bucks for an Xbox that can run games for about 8 years until the next console) pc's are 500 just for a decent one and you need to constantly upgrade it. It's easier to set up an Xbox over building a pc. You can play with you friends on console (splitscreen) it's less complicated, just plug and play. With pc you need to build it, the download windows or Linux, then an antivirus because you'll be downloading lots of stuff, and when you finally finish everything it still takes a while to download games cause they're all digital

Nope, you do not need to upgrade it constantly. PC hardware does not magically degrade over time nor does console hardware improve.
Then with PCs you have cheaper games crazy sales, humble bundles, no online fees, cheaper peripherals, tonnes of free games, mods... It adds up very quickly. Even if you did have a $100 lead on price you would lose it on purchasing 2 games.
What's stopping you playing splitscreen on a PC? Even having multiple TVs on the go? Or LAN parties?

Not all digital. You can get physical copies too. Digital is better though. With consoles, you have to travel to the store, find the game, pay for it, come back then install it before you can play it. Plus you can lose/damage the disk.

I love both, and both have ups and downs... but 4 me, console gaming is great with friends sitting with you on the sofa... Consoles are noob friendly to turn on and use, a PC isn't so noob friendly. My dad can play the xbox but not PC due to anti virus pop ups etc...

Consider the terminology without the prefixes. Make is to make something. Starting with just tools and making something. To master (in games and film) is to finalize a version and call the finalized copy the master copy. So to remaster would be to do more work on it and make a new master. But to make it again would be to start without anything and build something new that just happens to be the same thing.
So if they start from scratch, remake. If they use a base and simply modify it, it's a remaster.
But this shit where companies are just remastering something from the previous console. People are still playing the original. It's a blatant cash grab.
To be very clear, both remake and remaster can end up creating the exact same thing. When you get something that's drastically different and improved, it should be called a reimagining. If you're just taking assets and making it look better, it's like you're just making a sequel, but it's not a sequel. It's the exact same game. Just, prettier.
Except they are giving it to PC for free if you already own all Skyrim content. This leads me to believe that they would do the same for console gamers if they could, but they simply can't. There are too many technicalities.
Well, I think it might partly have something to do with covering up lingering bad feelings about paid mods, but in essence you are correct, the physical PC versions of Skyrims till gave steam keys, meaning they jsut ened to check steams database, whiel findign every single owner of a cosnoel copy of Skyrim would be not impossible, but very difficult.

Ever since Activision had the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy made (referring to it *EVERY FUCKING TIME* as a remaster), everybody's been calling remakes remasters. Same thing's happening with the recently-announced remake of SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom.
Hell, back then there were even some people who thought Wind Waker HD was a remake, when it is clearly a remaster.

Super Mario 64 has been remade, and with the inclusion of multiple playable characters and an extra 30 stars to collect, I would say it's definitely better.
Short answer: remaster is a already existing game brought back to life with enhanced graphics and maybe some small bonuses and differences that weren't in the original. A remake is a game brought back to life with enhanced graphics with a lot of differences while keeping the same gameplay,characters,bosses etc and if there are weapons there may be new weapons and there probably will be some bonuses.

343 did a great job on Halo CE Anniversary. I love to see how far they can stretch the original engine from 2001.
Also those old console exclusives that you said need a remaster of, well you can emulate them on PC using Dolphin (or equivalent emaulator) and crank up the settings essentially remastering them yourself. I have Dark Cloud 2 on PCSX2 and it looks incredible.

$60 is already too much for a brand new IP...so obviously paying that much for a Remaster...regardless of how big of a fan you are, is ridiculous.
About the only time I can say $60 for a Remaster is worth it, is for something like Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection...but with that, you're getting 3 fully Remastered games in one. So $20 per game is about right.

To be honest im not always happy being a PC gamer.
If your hardware or software (most likely windows software) is up to date then it can cause problems with old games that you may have grown up with that you really want to blast through again or you want to play a relic of the times just to see where certain genres started off then your kinda fucked because most of these games are no longer supported by the developers with patches which falls onto fans making their own patches or if there isn't one then you may have to consult people on forums about the problem.
PC is great for having state of the art hardware, software and other things but its very expensive to get a beastly gaming PC (even to build one) or beastly gaming laptop if your one of those people.
Glad that we still have DOS Box and Scumm vm emulator.
Im not going to turn down consoles from the NES and Master System to the 360, PS3 and even the underdog Wii.
I should also mention that developers struggle with doing PC ports.

Remasters do NOT change animations, level geometry, models, voices, or gameplay. GOOD remasters don't, anyway. Remakes can be completely different, but are, as the man said, re-done from scratch.
I do have LOTS of problems with the Ratchet & Clank remake, since it shits all over the original story, dialog, music, and more puzzle-based gameplay.

Also a serious note about Skyrim, it's also 64-bit compatible. A lot like Crysis 2 and 3. Meaning, it can take advantage of multi-core processors better, and isn't hacked in like Physical Address Extension (aka PAE.)

The terminology is dumb... Contradictory if you ask me. A remake is a reboot and remaster is just that. No matter how good or bad it is.
So the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the title was, DMC Devil May Cray and Devil May Cry 4 HD. I can say I will give credit that DMC wanted to be it's own thing and you can go into the game without knowing about the original series (aka people who have never played Devil May Cry 1 to 4). While I give them credit, some parts of the game worked and some don't.
The HD special edition gave us the old game beefed up and with more content by including new playable characters and some nostalgic returns. If you haven't played the original series you still get a good game but you need that knowledge to know why everyone was hyped Vergil was back.

That is still a Remaster. A remake IS a reboot. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a Remaster. DMC (Devil May Cry the Reboot) is a Remake/Reboot. You would only ever use the term "Remake" if you mean a Reboot or a Re-imagination of [example] which is usually a depiction of [example]. Even then, a Re-imagination is not a Reboot but is a Remake. In truth, most remasters are trash level which only satisfies the profit sales rather than vastly improving upon the game as a whole. Like an edited comment with small changes rather than a whole remaster of the comment's intent. To make things simple for people, yes, you can call it a Remake or a Remaster. However, as soon as you start defending those terms, then do understand how it fits within the context. "All remakes are remasters, but not all remasters are remakes."
Edit: Context and nuance is key. I can take the old Crash Bandicoot and compare it to the remastered one and say... "It's a Remaster." However, I cannot say the same when I compare (example) an old Final Fantasy game with its remake that strips away the turn base system for a real time system (the game play) or if the remake kept that system but changed its lore (reboot). Graphics do not matter within this context. If the original game, when compared to the new version of it, has a drastic change in its lore and/or game play, then it is a Remake. When all you do is revamp the graphics and alter from the original game in inconsequential ways, then that is a Remaster. By "inconsequential", I mean changes that are childish for what it is.
If the devs turned the Spyro Trilogy into a hack n slash game rather than an adventure game with low combat systems, then that is a remake. If the devs kept the original (not literally) and revamped the graphics along with inconsequential changes to improve the game, then that is a remaster.
