This is my grandfather. If I had been able to meet him he would have been called PawPaw. Thanks for posting, it's good to hear his voice. I've only ever heard stories from my dad.

Katherine Rose I grew up listening to your grandfathers voice. I just came across this video and brought back a ton of memories. My favorite of his calls was "#20 catcher bruuuuuce Benedict". I can still hear him calling out the 80s starting line up!

I also heard his voice all the time when I was young, Katherine. He made Braves games special, and he had the perfect intonation for the job. He will be in my memories and prayers always. May he now rest...

I grew up not far from the radio station where Mr. Mann worked. The first time I met him was in 1959 when he was on our School Patrol Greyhound Bus headed toward Washington, DC. He would interview us on a small tape recorder and then send it back to Griffin, GA to be played on the radio station. He interviewed me several times on that trip. Mr. Marshall Mann was a local treasure in Griffin radio. He was also a treasure as The Voice Of The Braves.

Nothing like walking into Fulton County Stadium as a kid for the first time and hearing that booming voice. He was a huge part of the magical run from 1991-1996

Wow. I never thought I'd hear his voice again. But it's always been in my head, and my heart. Mr. Mann was the best PA announcer I've ever heard. Wish I could've met him.

Listening to someone like Marshall Mann, you knew you were in Atlanta. Out here on the west coast, we had the Dodger's John Ramsey and the Oakland A's Roy Steele who, also added that touch of local flavor that seems to be missing from MLB.

I havent been to a Braves game since the 80's, but I found this video because Im thinking of traveling to Atlanta and going to a game, and I couldnt help but think of that distinctive voice. I never knew who that voice belonged to until I watched this video, its amazing he did it for 30 years. His voice sounds a bit different here than it did when he was younger, but its still very recognizable and great to hear. He had one of the classic voices in sports. I can still hear him announcing, "Catcher, Bruuuuuuuuuce Benedict".

I remember his voice very well watching Braves game as a kid back in the 80s. The Braves were so bad back then sometimes his voice made you keep watching for some reason.

I liked hearing Marshall Mann announce pinch hitters.... "Your attention please for Atlanta, batting for the pitcher Jeff Reardon, number nineteeeen, Franciscooo Cabrera!" And we all know what happened in that particular at-bat!

R.I.P. Marshall.. I will never forget our days together at W.H.I.E in Griffin.. I want you to know man a part of that radio station died when you died.. I will never forget your personality, wisdom, hilarious sarcasm, or seeing you standing there reading the morning news with a cigarette in your hand drinking a cup of coffee.. and by the way man, every single one of the Atlanta Braves showed up at your funeral.. but the thing I will most remember you for of course is your legendary voice.. God laid his hands on you and especially he laid his hands on your vocal cords.. you were graced my friend with a beautiful voice, and in my few years spent in your acquaintance, I see you used it well.. R.I.P. big guy I'll see you in that big control room in the sky someday..

Sadly, Marshall Mann was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer less than a month after his retirement and died a few months later.

Ironically, Mann never did get to see a Braves home game on TV. He died of cancer just three months after this was taped, well before Opening Day at Turner Field.

I'd bet that fire in 1993 was caused by a cigarette that wasn't put out properly.
I'd also bet they didn't want him announcing at the new stadium(Turner Field) because the Braves wanted a cleaner, less drawl-y voice announcing in the ballpark.
