In this video interview at Heart Rhythm 2012, Dr. James Reiffel updates us on new directions in drug treatments for atrial fibrillation. He talks about the combination of ranolazine (Ranexa) and dronedarone (Multaq), both used in lower doses, and about other coming atrial-selective drugs. He also discusses the rate control vs. rhythm control decision, which varies by age and level of symptoms.
Dr. Reiffel is an attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.

I don't want more drugs. I want the watchman.
Excellent interview. I learned more from this than 10 articles!
Joseph, You might want to review the Afib Master Class with Dr. Eric Prystowsky. It is four pages (34 videos about rate control, rhythm control, stroke prevention, and catheter ablation), starting here: www.stopafib.org/newsitem.cfm/NEWSID/637/
Very good info.
Nice Ty!! . . . DOC YOU ~ ROCK ! !
Intetesting analysis. Wonder what came of these 2012 discoveries.
Drug discovery is a very long process, so work continues on the atrial-selective drugs. Regarding vernakalent, it is approved outside the US, but is not approved in the US. However, it was resubmitted to the FDA for review on June 24, 2019.
Those 2012 discoveries came to nothing.
The Drug companies along with our government control the doctors
Cardizem? Where does it stand?
New Treatments for AFib??? A 10y old video, come on.
There should be no expectation that it is current since it says above that it was posted ten years ago. However, if you'd like to see the most current information, just sign up for our free video library to access the recordings from all our afib patient conferences. The world's top experts (doctors) in treating afib speak about afib treatment at the conference. There is also an Afib Master Class in the library, too. You'll find the link to sign up at www.stopafib.org/afib-resources/videos/
