This scene always brings a tear to my eye. Matthew was such a beautiful and gentle man, and a true father to Anne. I feel that Richard Farnsworth would have been similarly gentle and sweet. May he rest in peace.
It shows me how we can love people as deeply as humanly possible even if they are not biologically related to us. Of course! But in many parts of the world people don't always believe this. Love is deeply beautiful.
@@steventhury8366 Yes, the movie is not real. But what this scene represents, is. Love and being a family - those things don’t always have anything to do with the dna/biology, at all.
ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER . This scene is so sad . ANNE BECOMES A YOUNG WOMAN NOW. WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT MATTHEW ,INSTILLED IN HER. SO MUCH LOVE IN THIS SCENE.❤️😂😎BOB.
It's different from how he passed from the book, but I'm not complaining. I need a farewell moment between sweet Matthew and one of his beloved in his final moment.
Just over a minute of pure magic. It brought me to tears when I was a child. Now that I’m older and have a daughter, it hits me so much more. She always was a bright spark, and now is a beautiful flame. I wish I could take the credit but I merely showed the way. It was she who put in the work and a privilege for me to be there. With my dying breath I shall likewise tell the world - she is my hero, and I am so proud of my little girl.
First comes a warm feeling in the center of my back - slowly starts to spread out...only for the chills to run immediately down my back, hit my toes, and rush to the back of my neck.....followed by my eyes watering up. This scene hits me the same every single time. If I'm in a depressed frame of mind when I watch this, then I cry buckets...but I can usually be somewhat prepared for it. If I've (which I avoid doing after learning my lesson) watched a movie that makes me cry (example - fox and the hound, when the woman drops off Tod), then all hope of a tearless run is lost.
I remember watching this as a little boy with my eldest sister and her best friend who both locked themselves in the toilet because they were crying so much. To this day this scene busts me up.
He was the most lovable guy in the series. I didn’t want him to die until maybe a few books later. Even Lucy Montgomery regrets killing Matthew off in the first book.
OMG. I cried for a full 30 minutes when I first watched this scene! Matthew dying tore my heart out. He did love his little girl so. And Anne loved him too!
Very heartbreaking but yeah in the 2nd film when Marilla comforts Anne and they talk about how Matthew and how although it may seem like his baby sister didn't love their adopted daughter as much as he did, she still loves her a load in her own way. That's also a heartbreaking scene.
“I never wanted a boy. I only wanted you from the first day. Don’t ever change. I love my little girl. I’m so proud of our little girl.” 😢😢😢
I bawled my eyes out when i first saw this when i was a child. So touching. I love Matthew.

My favorite scene😢
Of all the characters, Matthew was always the kindest to Anne and appreciated her for who she was.
Matthew was such a kind man. Died in the arms of someone he loved
I still cried at this scene Matthew was soo kind to Anne. He absolutely loves her.
Last time, I almost cried at this part, too.
Loved this show! Broke my heart when Matthew died 💔
This is the greatest death scene of all time in any movie. Hands down and I will die on this hill. The layers and backstory make it what it is
This scene is one of the saddest scene in all the Anne films. :'( :'( :'(
@Kayaker Dude I know, right? He acted well in this part of the scene. But it's still sad because death is real
One of the most beautiful scenes in Canadian film.
In film history in general. Me and my sister grew up watching Anne and the sequel Anne of Avonlea. Good stories.
@@thepanda1044 have you seen the Megan Follows " Anne of Green Gables the Continuing Story?"
@@arrumaysaahajar123 I have. It was alright.... I guess. But I prefer the first two films.

This is a movie. It's not real!
You are wrong, Steven. It is the Miracle of Adoption.

I so proud on my little girl. 😢
I always cry at this scene.
+Shaundra Lee Me too!
Who wouldn't??
I can't watch that scene without crying
I'd kill to have a father relationship like Anne's and Matthews
The scene that really gets me is when Anne and Marilla are crying together after Matthew's funeral... 😭
The scene that really gets us as well is when Matthew died right there in the field, and we saw him dead too.
Only a minute thirty five and it makes me cry every time!
This is one of the few movies that makes me cry.

Joetheshow445 yeah tears!!
impossible not to cry
We were robbed of a scene like this in Anne with An E. It would have been devastating and soul crushing in the best way possible.
We were robbed of everything in Anne with an e

My all time favorite TV show ❤️❤️❤️
Notice how the cows are looking down at Anne and Matthew, as if they know whats going on. A sad scene.
I remember watching this as a little boy with my eldest sister and her best friend who both locked themselves in the toilet because they were crying so much. To this day this scene busts me up.
I am crying SO MUCH
My un-favorite scene of Anne of Greene Gables. Matthew was a sweet guy and my favorite character

Dammit all I'm not crying YOUR crying. Seriously this may just be a film but god, to be loved like that and told "All I wanted was you"
"I got old, I never noticed." gdi that line hits so hard 30 years later...

Matthew really was her Daddy.

Where's Marilla during this scene? She must have seen what was going on.
Megan Follows is the only acceptable Anne in my eyes. I love this movie so much
