    "You don't develop an accent"
According to my speech therapist, you can.
Appareantly, due to me speaking as much english as I do, I developed an "english" accent while speaking german.
And it is honestly noticable when I focus on it.

I sit corrected! I did think about it later and it certainly seems like you could, obviously, and we don't know where Luffy has been since he was a kid so I'll chalk it up to his experiences between then and now leading to a change in speaking patterns. Thanks for providing us with your experience!

Honestly, what the heck is up with some of these negative, mean comments? Calm the F down, it's literally just two dudes watching a tv series and giving their opinions.
As for people mocking the live action, everything went through the original author, Oda, so if he said green light it most probably fits in the OP world. Not to mention that when he started writing the manga he was about 19-20 years old. Even he knows that there are loopholes and questionable parts. It is what it is, nothing is perfect and it's impossible to include every single detail, the actors would grow old.
I enjoyed it and made me wanna check out the source material (and I currently actually am watching the anime) As Zoro said: Don't like what your're seeing? Look away"

Several things: One Piece has few filler episodes, around 80-90 episodes. The main problem is more the progress of certain episodes of the anime. And there are "movies" that group together the important episodes of an arc so you can watch that to save time. Very good reaction too.

Hi guys! So I really loved this video, and I just want to say, looking at the comments, there seem to be some negative reactions. Comments like “it doesn’t look like a reaction video, it looks like two people studying for an exam”. I can understand that some people might not like this style of video, and that’s totally respectable, I just want to throw in a counter balance that I actually really love this kind of video. Please don’t feel like you need to fake or exaggerate your reactions and do a big crazy face anytime something cool happens on screen. I love having these kinds of videos where there is a large discussion at the end, you guys are clearly paying attention. I personally really dislike videos that consist of only a “reaction” portion and very little actual discussion, so while not everybody may like this style, please just keep doing what you’re doing and the people who your content does appeal to will come. Keep up the great work, much love.

Thank you, Code! We appreciate the feedback. We know we aren't the typical reactors and have made peace with it. The discussion is the biggest thing for us and everything else is in service of that. If you want a frank discussion about what we've seen then you're in the right place because we never sugarcoat anything and we're as honest as we can be about our feelings. This is truly the experience of watching something with us. Sometimes we make a joke during the reaction but, especially if we're really into something, most of our time is spent watching and listening to the story they are telling us.
Always nice when someone "gets" us and what we are doing and derives joy from it. Makes us feel all warm and tingly 😃

If you enjoyed Star Wars not just for its science fiction, its interesting battles, but because of the sense of adventure, the heart and soul of a character, the trial and tribulations of a character, and the tremendous world building of what the Jedi and Sith plays to the universe and philosophy (Yang and Yin respectively). Then I think you will enjoy One Piece. The plot is different, the style is somewhat different (though One Piece would be one world where Chewbacca would fit in fine), and the philosophy is not quite the same though many values do overlap. But there is one thing I feel both Lucas's world and Oda's world have similarity and that is heart.
Hope you enjoy the world. It is a huge one and you are just starting off with the crew in season 1.

32:00 Yes, the corniness absolutely works in this show's favor. Something that gave a lot of fans pause when we heard One Piece was being done in live action is that One Piece is a capital C 'Cartoon'. Not just the medium in which it's created, but the laws of physics, the worldbuilding, the reality itself. It's like Looney Toons, but with genuine fantasy worldbuilding and geopolitics. Everything about One Piece is cartoonish and exagggerated, which is a really difficult thing to pull off in live action.
This adaptation leans into that cheesy/corny factor instead of trying to apologize for or hide it, which really saves it from A: feeling like it's trying to hard and B: losing the spirit of the original. It knows it's kinda goofy, and it leans into that goof instead of trying to avoid it, which is why it works so well.

  • @em5522

I disagree that this isn't a good introduction. I think this was made for new ppl, esp with how streamlined this is, and I appreciate how it's more faithful to the manga over the anime. It gives more foundation/foreshadowing of certain main storyline points that Oda has a much more clear vision of now compared to when the series first started 20 years ago too.
The manga/anime is more exploratory and the pacing can feel a lot slower. I believe less than 100 eps are actual filler (srry, guys).
My rating for OPLA overall is 8.7. I think it worked for the medium it used, it holds a lot of respect and love for the original source, and it tells the story it needed to tell pretty well in just 8 episodes. There are even a couple aspects I like better here than how the manga/anime did it (similar to how I like certain aspects of the anime better but the manga will always be my #1 medium). For example, the fight between Mr. 7 and Zoro was only a throwaway line in the manga.
The live does have quite a bit I can nitpick, like with how some plot is set up, the delivery of some parts, even some of the pacing and cgi, and missing bits/interpretations I felt should've been included, but overall, I think this works well to bring new ppl into the series.
I still highly rec reading the manga, if nothing else. The chapters are really easy to get through and it'll be where all the canon story will be told (except for a small handful of the movies).

@@BlakeandJeff The beauty of the manga is, for the most part, you are the master of pacing - you can tackle it however fast or slow you want. The anime kinda forces you into a certain rhythm that starts to kinda deteriote after 250-300 episodes (that is not to say that soundtrack, voice delivery and animation can be phenomenal experiences... just in the nature of it being a weekly anime for a weekly manga, that adaptation there has its own struggles)

You should definitely give the anime another try. It definitely has darker themes but at the beginning the stakes are not high because Luffy and the gang are still unexperienced pirates so its more fun adventures but as the story progresses things get real serious at points. As their infamy grows their danger grows with them. So its nice to see the progression from going from nobody's to infamous pirates that people around the world have grown to fear just by word of mouth. Some of those darker things include things like racism, human trafficking, dictatorships, genocide, slavery, and corruption of governments to name a few.

Just wanted to give a second endorsement to the One Pace project. They actually have been editing the anime on the principle of matching the original manga as much as possible, so you can watch it without missing any of the core story. I think they have completed about 75-80% of the episodes at this point, with a number of individual arcs being finished. So, its not a perfect solution, but believe me, it beats sitting through 5 minutes of recap and episodes that are 90% filler with 10% actual story mixed in (that only really starts to happen much later in the anime though). Definitely check them out if your have any interest in watching the anime.

You can watch only the live action if you guys want to, that's the point of making live action, it's to tell the story in a different format, plus it's pretty much the same as seasonal anime. Although it's an abridged version so they altered the story a lot, they still kept the main story which is pretty much the same exact experience

You say you know, but not all powers come from Devil Fruits in this series. There are others. The third live action ep villain merely uses a technique. The people in this world are naturally superhuman degree in terms of stats, with the potential to grow beyond human limits.
And... well, Luffy's mentor uses something that isn't a devil fruit. Heck, in the anime, the mentioned power his mentor has wasn't even revealed until not long before the series' time skip, called Haki.
...but yeah, Devil Fruits are notable throughout the whole series. They're rare outside the Grand Line, but in it? Whole 'nother matter.

Hear me out. Maybe not everyone can relate to the comparison I'm going to make. How does anyone have the argument that the series is too long and that's why they never start. Every story or movie I really loved I've always wanted more... with one piece ,yes it's a long story but once you understand it and that switch flicks in your brain, you get it and want no need more. It's like a drug almost you get used to having it around so abundantly then you catch up to the manga and bam your plug is gone 😢

    • @BlakeandJeff
      @BlakeandJeff  Год назад +1

Oh, for sure. Blake is already getting hooked. For me it's more of the "I don't know if I have the time to devote to watch this entire anime". When I was a younger man with infinite free time and little responsibility then the prospect of starting something with this much content would have been exciting. I could binge watch it for hours a day, every day and be in heaven. On the other side of 40 with less time available it's more daunting just because I would hate the glacial progress that I would be making.
Now, that doesn't mean I won't start it. I really enjoyed this series and do want to dive in but I think I'm going to read the manga first and then start watching the anime. I won't worry about how slow I'm going because I already know the story and can just watch it at my leisure.
I'm still not entirely sure I would finish the anime before I died though 😉

Was very skeptical about this but I gotta admit, they did their best. This is probably the best anime adaptation. The characters are also done nicely. Some great some decent. As an OP fan, I'd rate this around 7. I guess you guys can tell ho great the anime is if the live action is this good.
Two big cons which lowered the rating for me were: 1. Although they say the budget was high, some sets were too small and camera angles seemed claustrophobic. 2. Some major changes were done to the story which I didn't like.

      @BlakeandJeff  Год назад +1

I understand. In our trailer reaction for this series I called out the claustrophobic camera work and was worried about it going in. Ultimately I didn't mind it but it's a choice and some people are going to bump up against it.

You guys caught so many details for a first watch! I think it’s great that you guys are taking notes and asking such great questions!
Totally get that 1000 episodes is daunting. I think the LA adaption did a good job of condensing the OG material, and also ending the season in a good place in case another season never happened, as I think most (not all, but most) of the questions you raised or discussions you had are resolved within this same season. Recently, a season 2 was greenlit and announced as well.
Great that you guys are a fan of the anime style flashbacks that flesh out the story because that’s a OP staple and the LA does a great job of tying them into the current story.
In the anime, the snail phones are telepathic and had attached receivers, so I think it was supposed to be less ‘murmurs’ and the actual voices came out of the snail mouth itself or something, so I think you’re right that we already knew about the map, so there was no point to listen in for that scene. 😅
Excited to see your reactions to the rest of this season! Thanks for posting!!

Instead of doing filler episodes, they just stretch 1 chapter out to 1 episode, with a lot of long lingering shots, recap, and flashbacks to pad out the time.

If it becomes cheaper to generate extras using AI as an example. How do a majority of actors even get hired. And if studios needed a main character for a movie. More than likely they would ask the question. Why do we need to hire an actor if we're paying Harrison Ford for his AI avatar.
