  • Is Albania a good place to go on holiday? In this Sarandë (Saranda) travel vlog, I show you my experience traveling Albania & what is beach holiday in Albania like. Is it worth it? | Get MY BOOK 'I lived in Shanghai' on Amazon! amzn.to/3pLoeQ4
    In this video I show you what to do in Sarandë, a beach town in souther Albania, called unofficial capital of Albania Riviera. I share my experience traveling across Albania as a solo female traveller (both the good and the bad). I talk about Albanian food, people, safety in Albania (is it safe to travel Albania alone?) and show you what a vacation by the beach in Albani is like!
    If you decided to read my book 'I lived in Shanghai' PLEASE leave an Amazon review! It would help me out a lot! :)

      How is it underrated it toom me 2 hours to drive from dhermi to saranda and at dhermi a 10 inch pizza with very little cheese cost me 10 euro in USA I can get ! 12 inch for $6.99 and overall food is very bad and overpriced and most beaches were private so it costs at least 10 euro to 50 euro for 1 umbrella and 2 seats and the water was very good but there there were so many rocks on the beach no sand at all next to our place there was a roveene that brings the trash down to the beach even known there was a government vacation mansion close by and there's no parking so yes it's a beautiful place but the infrastructure is awful and food is also awful and overpriced you're charging italy or Greece proces for garbage that's not worth even 30% so go fix that before you expect international tourists to come

    • @HAIRHOLIC_1
      @HAIRHOLIC_1 17 дней назад

      That's your personal experience and opinion. However, many people have had wonderful experiences there. My friend recently visited and loved the food, the sea, and the hotel. Everything was modern, clean, and the customer service was friendly.
      It's important to understand that Albania is a developing country. They are beginning to improve, so it's unrealistic to expect them to be on the same level as Greece or Italy, which have years of experience in tourism. It will take time, but I'm optimistic because Albanians are hard workers.
      Regarding prices, have you been to Italy recently? A deck chair by the beach can cost at least €45 per day. Add overpriced food and drinks, and you can easily spend €100 just to go swimming. Despite European laws stating that the sea is public property, Italy has privatized most of its beaches.
      I live in Switzerland, which has a large Albanian and Kosovo community. Many Kosovars immigrated here after the war in the 90s, and I grew up with many Albanians. Even as refugees, they were always generous, inviting us over and sharing food with smiles and positive attitudes.
      I wish their country the best in its journey to prosperity because the people are strong and resilient and they really deserve it, even if their government is corrupt.

    • @johnm5855

      @HAIRHOLIC_1 it's the fact I just left and I was at several cities beaches are mostly private owned so ypu pay from 10 to 50 euro for a umbrella and 2 seats otherwise you can't go to 90% of the beaches food is awful and it took 2 hours to go 70 km from dhermi to saranda I thought saranda was way better and cleaner but dhermi was 100% trash would never go there again

    Thank you for all these beautiful vlogs through Albania and I want to mention something about the thing with the "hotel", places like that are always a problem, not only in Albania and I understand that you just wanted to spend less for the stay but with the prices comes the level of service right?
    And as you mentioned it was a family business, it's their only way of living and people get upset when "you take their incomes" (this is how they see it)
    Next time do some more researching about the hotels because it's really important, especially in countries like Albania. Thank you again and keep up the great work!

  • @alb4776
    @alb4776 2 года назад +4

    Glad you to hear you enjoyed Albania overall. I’m very sorry to hear about that weird experience with that hotel. Indeed that sounds very weird for Albania since most people are very friendly. It must have been just them. If any Airbnb is being weird that should be a red flags because it’s not normal behaviour for Albania so it means it must be that individual owner. So leave that place immediately. The normal behaviour in Albania is that you should go an extra mile to satisfy your guest and this is the norm. So if someone in Albania is not going an extra mile to satisfy you as a guest then that should raise red flags that the person/ hotel etc is not acting normal for Albania

We are going in a couple weeks for 3 months. The price is so reasonable. $350 euro a month all included. (Utilities, wifi etc),right on the ocean.

    I was thinking on going next summer vacation to Albania but I’ve been watching some videos and even though it looks beautiful I don’t like the fact that I have to pay with cash all the time. It inconvenient for tourists since we have to pay to the bank for withdrawals and then we don’t get points for using our credit cards, so I feel I’m making them a favor and hurting my pocket in the process and why would I do that, maybe that’s one of the reasons people just don’t go, they are not prepared for international tourists. Meanwhile I’ll keep going to Greece or Italy where I can pay with my credit card no problem at all.

    • @JayandSarah
      @JayandSarah 5 месяцев назад +1

      That's too bad you would avoid a country for that reason. If you are going to Italy or Greece, you may be getting "points" and saving on some bank fees, but you are paying more in total for your stuff. It's a very shortsighted way of looking at the situation.

Apart from the sea promenade and some private hotel beaches, the place is more like a third world country and the myriad of half finished now abandoned building makes it more like a war zone. The restaurants mainly serve spaghetti and pizza and the supermarkets range is very limited. After two weeks here the thing we are looking forward to most is the ferry out of here!
