- Universal Hovercraft is proud to offer the UH-19XRW Hoverwing™ ground-effect vehicle for industrial, commercial and military sales. It is available to our customers on a ready to run turnkey basis. The Hoverwing™, designed as a high performance hovercraft, is unique because of the ability to add wings for flight in ground-effect.
Flying in ground-effect enables you to clear obstacles and fly over rough water at speeds in excess of 75 mph. Cruise altitude is 2 to 6 feet and the craft can jump up to 20 feet to clear large obstacles. Operating in ground-effect does not require a pilots license, and the craft is registered as a boat which brings a wide range of new opportunities to the commercial and tourism industry.
Removing the wings from the Hoverwing™ takes just 10 minutes. With the wings removed the Hoverwing™ converts into Sport mode, a sleek high performance hovercraft, able to carry 4 to 6 passengers into areas that cant be reached with any other vehicle. The Hoverwing™ can be configured in many different ways to accommodate your passengers or equipment needs.
Notice: the 19XRW Hoverwing™ is not yet available for recreational use. Commercial, industrial, rescue, and military inquires only.
This looks like a very practical and efficient cross between hovercraft and a gev !
We often drag the wing tips in the water to tighten the turning radius. The wing tips are shaped like a ski and will not dig into the water no matter how hard you try. its actually a challenge trying to make a wing touch the water due to the lift increasing as the wing gets closer to the surface.
Wow, I was concerned whether that would cause a catastrophic accident
BS! I have seen several dig in and really hurt the operators!
We fly nose up to bring the speed down. This is useful when landing on rough water - or if you just want to have fun. The craft is much more efficient flying level. Top speed airborne on this particular model is 80 mph.
How do I order one of these please?
We offer kits ranging in price from $ 5,200 to $ 24,000. Completed units are $ 60,000+
Clever idea!
The hovercraft part eliminates water drag at liftoff, that had necessitated 8 massive jet engines on the Ekranoplan.
Looks like in a turn or other cause of a wing dip, a brush with ground or water would be devastating. Aircraft encountering ground effect float quite a bit higher then this even with high wings. I truly think you need to go higher for safety. The concept of a hover to full aircraft would surely be interesting as runways would be available anywheres.
Holy shit! this master piece actually float in the air.... love it!!!
Why sin and blastheme you make me sick fear God
maravilhoso, obrigado a todos que colaborarão com esses videos, bela apresentação e nos dá conecimento de coisas que jamais viriamos em nossas vidas normais, grato

@Vince62965
This particular unit is flying on 100 horsepower.
It is a big wing which provides lots of lift at low speeds, but higher drag at high speeds. It's not meant to fly like an airplane. When it lifts beyond its max height, it loses cushion underneath, and drag increases, so it settles back down into its cushion mode.
Looks like these machines are perfect first step to flying. Awesome.
Love this thing. I wish an old guy like me on a fixed income could have one... While in the air I see one person in the craft. Can it take two? I would like to see a high speed fly-by. THANKS...
Wow boating without the chop and getting seasick, love it. I don't think I would like tipping a wing in the water, that would be a wild cartwheel.
Difficult to "tip" wing in water due to lift being created. Its all in the design.
Push for countrywide network of waterways!
They are called 'rivers' ;)
I see a lot of Russians angry thinking this is a ekranoplan. First ekranoplan was a big failure because it needed many engines to take off. Many engines usually means a lot of fuel consumption so it defeats the purpose.
Second the the ekranoplan was strictly for landing on water. This hovercraft use only 80hp engine for trust and 15 for lift. Total 95hp. It can land and take off from land or water.
The wings can be store on board to use as hovercraft and transportation.
the best hover craft i think i've seen is an Apache helicopter and it blends!
Frikin love it! Working on an RC ekranoplan at the mo - but thats really cool!!!
WIG is what albatroses and pelicans and Swans and all heavy Sea birds love to do.
@tazmun I've seen a video where the driver (/pilot?) actually dips the wingdip on purpose while turning, without any problems. Keep in mind: while turning, the vehicle is drifting outwards, so the wing tip won't dive in, but is more like skiing on the surface. grtzz
Thats so cool! i would love to have a few. My only question is if there is one capable of supporting multiple passengers.
Make one out of streamlined carbon-fiber (the whole thing). It would be awesome!
Really cool, I’m building my own soon!
Definitely cool but I'd love to see what one would do with four extra feet of wing on each side.
I'd love to see this flying over cars on a highway... the express lane!!
Nice idea, but a little crosswind and you'd have a crash. You need that traction when vehicles are so close to each other.
What an ingenious machine. I'm a layman about these things, so excuse my ignorance, but is the lift fan shut down while flying Wing In Ground Effect?
you will see the wings touching the water in our 18SPW video. It is not an issue.
Very interesting. I hope it becomes available for recreational use, and would love to see a price
WOW, you deff should work on the body to make it all futuristc and attach some blue LEDS man. Thats sick!!
The two vehicles are very different. Ekranoplan is a Russian design that is purely water based. The American Hoverwing uses hovercraft technology to make the WIG an all terrain vehicle.
No I'm not a moron but this video is about the ground effect I was merely questioning why the plane that flew with its belly supposedly just off the pentagon lawn didn't also feel the effect which would have been far more of an effect considering the size of the aircraft its speed and the forces created by its wings.
My comment was very much to do with the topic of the video, your comment had no reason for being here other than to make people think there's something wrong with my comment!!!!!!!!
Because your comment is ignorant.
that is by far the cOolest thing eva !!!!!
Если при повороте заденет крылом воду, мало не покажется. Аппараты класс. Лайк.
Did anyone else think of star wars? Coolest thing I've seen in a while.
those machines are awesome ..
especially big ones ..
This equipment have great military and commercial use.
I know what is going on:
There is pressure between the ground and the vehicle, and that pressure forms a "bubble" it move upward constantly until the pressure is to low hold the craft any higher. Then it floats back down closer to the ground repeating this effect
@viper8red hovercraft and ground efect planes (or ekranoplans) are considered as a ship...all you need the apropiate boat licence...
Well, now i've seen everything
it's amazing. also collect such a machine . hi from Russia
lol at 0:45 the seagulls are all like. "OMG WTF" and fly away.
AWESOME!
@UniversalHovercraft How about if you need to tilt the wing to make a sharp turn while flying over land ?
is there some sort of safety feature that prevents the pilot from inadvertently planting a wing tip into the ground/water?
What motor is used in this one? V-6? That is the genius of Bob Windt!!
Yes, but I notice that over ground your wing almost touch the ground while in a roll. If it even grazes the ground, you're crashing.
If there is a racing league for these, then i would sell my kidneys and my grandma to be in on that action.
Totally cool - Back in the 1970's my family lived on Clark's Island in Plymouth, MA & my dad could have used this hovercraft to get to the mainland in short time. The bay is shallow with rocky areas & this would have simplified low tide commutes plus cut the commute time way down. For foggy days (there were many) maybe a hovercraft could be upgraded with instrument flight rated hardware.
Well done job!. 'Flying in ground-effect enables you flying in rough water' Great, but how rough? There are numbers ranging from 0 to 10 to classify how rough water is. -The name is Douglas' scale. How high can this vehicle fly? Can it fly just a little bit over surface, or as high as a conventional plane?
Ok, so where do I get my hands on one if these? Looks really fun.
WOW great
Was bringt euch der Bodeneffekt ?
P.S.: sieht absolut genial aus und bin fasziniert davon ^^
@UniversalHovercraft god damn it, r these things so difficult to assemble?
NOSE UP at 40 mph? What you want is to trim it nose down for efficiency. What's the top speed airborne? Looks fun
@viper8red no a craft like that can also go higher than the wingspan, because its not only ground effect working, but it gets very instable and dangerous and u want it to be driven without pilot license.
hi this is great, what is the minimum speed to fly?
These are ultimate .
@UniversalHovercraft is it possible to add a higher horse power engine? and will you provide 100+ horsepower models?
actually ground effect is a reduction in upwash, down wash, and large scale vortex rotation around the "wing". the "bubble" of air is a myth it doesn't exist. ground effect machines can fly because of the reduced DRAG created by the grounds disruption of airflow near the craft. what is talked about is a common misconception of how lift works...the actual pressure differential above and below a wing is in the order of less than 5 psi, and is not the primary reason a wing flys
Where can a guy get a ride in this beauty?
do you have to have a special licence for operateing such a vessel
How is the suspension on that mug?? Pretty smooth i'm guessing?
I you really want one, but can't afford one, you can always use polystyrene.
I bet that is way cheaper and lighter as well.
Cut it out with a hot wire cutter and sand it for a more rounded look.
It doesn't cost you a thing to be creative ;)
Interesting, but I'll wait for the next model.
How is the front ducted fan being proppeled ?
Does it have its own engine or is it connected to the same enginr that drives the pusher fan?
Beautiful!
Holy Fucking shit THIS THING FLIES LIKE HOVERCRAFT and for how much time can it fly OVER the GROUND ?!?!
Are there ailerons? It seems like they only hover a few feet off the ground simply due to the speed of the vehicle.
I read that the FAA doesn't regulate this craft. Is that true? No license required? I would love to take it for a spin on the SF Bay.
@UniversalHovercraft is it possible to fly more than 100 horsepower? will you be providing models with 100+ horse power? i am quite interested in investing in one of these. how much would it cost to own one?
Nice ekranoplane!
@PoisonBill
Would do anything to own one of these during the summers! just awesome!
@FlyingSofa28 hovercraft racings does exist, there's also a world cup
Is this product still commercially available?
What would happen if the craft got hit by a sudden wind gust, or if it tips one wing into the water in a turn?
Do explain why what amounted to an office fire on only TWO floors of the Third building that was Not hit by an AIRPLANE should collapse when all other buildings of similar make with office fires can have the ENTIRE building burn and remain standing?
Looks cool and like lots of fun but I'd be scared to death of catching a wave with a wing. I gotta believe that would ruin your whole afternoon.
@danielmaddox01 You can't get rid of bridges with ground effect vehicles. "Ground effect" means they need to stay close to the ground to work, while if you want to get rid of a bridge, you're obviously not.
Why cost it so much? 20.000$ will be ok but Not 199.000
But can it blend?
Супер! Заверните два! ))))
Крымский мост охранять.
pitch up man and request flight following lol! nice vid.
I see an issue. Wouldn't it take about only $500 worth of modifications to get one airborne outside of the ground effect?
You should make it a top wing design.
like the coolest thing ever....
Do you need a special permit to operate one?
I bet your gonna need a pilot's license too.
LMAO, I had to think about that one for a second I was like does smoke have to do with lift...
can it fly up higher? or is that like the only thing it can do?
how much more power does it need to fly propperly ?
WOW ! I want one, hey, I CAN have one....hmmm parking is going to be a problem.....
That is SICKKK!!!!!!!!!
IM THROWING MONEY AT THE SCREEN!!!! WHERE IS MY BOAT!?!?!?!?!?
epic where to buy? can thay fly over land?
Kits are available for under 6K. Ready to fly machines are over 100K.
Dude im with you I know it was a demolition as I note in my comment that you responded to why are you trying to confuse things, its quite obvious which side im on
THEORETICALLY CAn you fly on high waves? what is max.wave height approx,. ? also, i bet it can glide well on ground ?
how much for the red one
Same as the Yellow....
that is sooo cool, I WANT ONE!
I'm SOOOO gonna buy this, just a soon as I win the lottery!
