Yeah I definitely underestimated how cold it was going to be! A cow would definitely be a bad thing to hit. A while back I saw a bunch of hogs out on the road, that was interesting!
The fuel progamer adds fuel at each stage, this is needed with the air box and exhaust changes, the bike can use more fuel but it also has a bit more power so in some situations it will use more fuel and sometimes a bit less. On the CA BDR trip I got 75 mph off road and on the freeway depending on my speed I got 60 to 70mpg
I rode that same route last around this time last year and underestimated how cold it was in the canyon. Almost hit a cow too coming around a corner.

I thought they did 90mpg and 70mpg with "spirited riding". Did the mods affect anything?
