My recovery speed got better since I started to push myself everyday (I took some rest day , but the amount of hours I put in for 1 day might be the whole week for most people). I am tired to play safe and look weak. The more I train , the more I wanted to train everyday , my body feels gooooood about it.

Have gone from 15 inch guns to 20 in two years.and it's because I treat every workout like it's my last! Go to fatigue, then do it again, then again etc. Glad I found CT cause I was hearing so much of this anti-overtraining stuff that I was starting to believe it.

Damn near everything that I did while Wrestling in High School was exercising while already being 3 to 4 days depleted of everything and we still had to exercise. By the time we stepped onto the mat, we were already at our weakest 7 times out 10 so we weren't Wrestling at 100% yet we still Wrestled. That's Wrestling. Wrestling is being uncomfortable and constantly pushing and grinding while being at your weakest but still performing as if you were at your best. That was the best shape I was ever in. Over training works in my book. The physiques of Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestlers also says otherwise as that is their sport.

I can guarantee you guys that overtraining WORKS.

Over training is a mental excuse. If you feed your body properly, rest when needed, eat some more and keep your training in check by pushing it when your body says go hard and easy when it says go easy, you can train every day. When I wanted to increase my bench and arms I benched and did arms every day. Sometimes I'd train 14 days in a row before I took a day off. The difference may be mental toughness and will... some people just use over training as an excuse to take a day off IMO.

well Gee... thanks for giving a 'fat old piece of lying shit' (something to that context you said) some credit. Anabolics do speed up recovery no doubt, we know this, but a lot of lifters now think it's the first thing you should do and all you need. Quality muscle...the kind that lasts, takes years to build and you have to know how to push the limits weight wise. You gotta know how to lift. I went to Gold's sissy ass gym the last two days and the "so called big guys" they had looked mad I showed up. Gear and newbies only lead to puffy imbalanced physiques with all bi's and no tri's and some sorry ass'd lifts. One guy was trying to hawk me down with 265 on the bench like it was something impressive, another with 365... smh... I warm up with more than that.

I love CT but ask any UFC fighter who has gone through a 3 month training camp while doing 3 hour workouts 3 times a day if overtraining exists. Of course it does. If CT fletcher did a training camp like any top UFC fighter his muscles and heart would give out. He may not overtrain lifting weights but if he started jogging 10 miles a day for the next 3 weeks you best believe his calves would be overtrained. I'm just respectfully disagreeing, I'm all for going hard and pushing myself. I just don't believe people need to be injuring themselves.

    • @mumble97

***** True, I agree with that statement. I just think it can harmful because I think people are missing the main point as you said. I think people see CT Fletcher and how hard he works but don't realize that it took his body decades to be able to handle that kind of abuse. Then these new people to fitness and bodybuilding get ahead of themselves and tear something because their bodies can't handle what CT's can.

For 8 weeks straight, this was my schedule.
    6am-7am - Lift Weights.
    7:30am-5:30pm - Hard Labor (Shovel)
    6:30-7:30 - Boxing
    7:30-9:00 - Wrestling
I can tell you from personal experience that the concept of "over training" completely exists, body builders don't work nearly as hard as athletes, especially while using HGH or Steroids. Over-Training in its self works, i work harder than all my opponents and people say "you train too much" they're dumb.
My concept of over training is when you don't get enough sleep, healthy nutritious food, and exercise simply too much.
From that schedule these are the symptoms I received by week 5 and continued till after week 8.
    Swollen Lymph Nodes
    Elevated Liver Enzymes (Blood Test)
    General Constant Soreness
    Complete Chronic Fatigue
    Fatigue When Not Training
    Trouble Breathing (Rapid Heart Rate)
    Train Hard..Over-Train... But Train Smart

I never claim to be the biggest or the strongest or the fastest or any of that, but I do know a thing or two about overtraining. CT mentions triathletes, I have completed an 140.6 Ironman Triathlon and know for a fact that over training is myth. I trained my ass off every single day 80 mile bike rides, 15 mile run, miles and miles of swimming, sometimes two and three a day workouts and lifting. It is completely individual to what you condition your body to be able to do, you just have to want it, to have the will power, and to stop complaining because it hurts or you can't do it.

Tom Platz also admitted to taking steroids. If you take drugs, then yes - you pretty much can't overtrain. But if you are completely natural, it is possible to train too much and not to allow your muscles to recover.
And I think a big communication error here is that lots of people use the word "overtraining" to mean two different things. Most athletic trainers and physical therapists like Jeff Cavaliere simply use the word to refer to those who do not give their muscles time to recover from workouts. However, on RUclips the word is thrown around, especially by Mike Rashid, to refer to pushing yourself beyond what you normally are capable of in the gym. The latter is essential to grow, while the former is detrimental.

I agree :) I do 1,600 reps pushups for my chest workout. People don't believe me when I tell them that I do more than a thousand pushups. Some say it's impossible, some say I'll injure my shoulders. I don't usually mind those comments, but what pisses me off is when people tell me it's overtraining. Back in the early terms of college we were put into intense military reserve training, we were pushed beyond our limits. We did repetitive exercises for whole days. I noticed that I got significantly stronger. I realized at this point that this overtraining is just a crappy excuse for people to stay in their comfort zones. Right now I have trained my chest hard enough to look far better than most of my friends who go to gym to do their chest workouts and follow what they call is not "overtraining". I'm not even planning on stopping at 1,600 pushup reps. People can say what they want to say, but, just as what happened to me, the results will always show that what they call "overtraining" is what makes the difference. TRAIN HARD! WORK HARD!

  • @abelsolutionprop

I think people are confused as to what CT Fletcher is defining as overtraining.
If I understand correctly, his definition of overtraining is going above and beyond what YOU think you can do whether it is pumping iron/cardio/etc. He's actually right - in basic training, I did a lot of shit I never thought I could do. For example, I was able to run 2 miles, but never thought I could run 6 miles in the morning at a fast pace which to me, was overtraining.

You are telling me things I already know dude. Just about everybody knows that you can't train with bodybuilding principles, on the same body part over and over, This whole over-training theory has various applications. And we are talking about 2 different applications.
You are talking about something totally different... I was referring to the fact that I train 5-6 days/week and 2-3 hours per day and the body part I am working on, on any particular day is trained at extremely high volume. Many would say this is over training. Many people say that you shouldn't do any more than 1 and a half hours of training on the same muscle, some believe you need to stay under 500 reps for best results. THIS IS WHAT I AM ARGUING AGAINST. Now that I have clarified, does it make more sense, ass wipe?

  • @GarethFerguson83
    @GarethFerguson83 10 лет назад +17

CT Fletcher's workout explanation isnt overtraining, its just another approach to building muscle. However overtraining is real. I can workout all day and all will be fine. But if you don't give your muscles time to rest that can be considered overtraining. A time ago I would do chest workout every day. Well there came a point whereas I couldnt lift something that was consider warm up weights to me. My body need rest and that is what is considered overtraining

I agree with you there is no such thing as over training. like you I train arms every day. I squat twice to three times a week. Look at sprinters or as you say gymnasts exercising every day. This is why these people are bon bon eating people and would not step foot in the gym. They accuse you of using steroids. You have nothing else to prove to anyone. To hell with these people CT

    • @Un1234l

Overtraining exists if you aren't eating enough. If you eat more than enough to get those gains, it doesn't exist. And damn, sprinters and gymnasts eat a helluva lot.

I'm a huge fan of Tom Platz and I've never heard of him squatting for 3-4 hours at a time. Could be true, but could be false too. I HAVE heard that he once squatted for 10 minutes straight and that he'd rest 5-10 minutes between sets of 30-50 reps. Tom trained his legs once a month. He tried working out with Arnold, who did full-body workouts for six days straight and rested one day, but found that his legs actually were getting smaller from that. Instead, he opted for much longer intervals between his leg workouts. These are all paraphrased from the man himself, by the way.
Everyone's body is different and functions differently. In nearly all cases, the people who say there's no such thing as overtraining are enhanced lifters and the people who say there is such a thing are natural lifters. It all depends on how your muscles work and how much taxation they can handle.

Has everyone forgotten that lots of people work jobs that involve intense manual labour and heavy lifting all day every day for 10 plus hours. I am one of those people. What about railroad workers 100 years ago that swung 20 pound sledge hammers pounding spikes for 12 hours a day, EVERYDAY. These men were known for having incredible strength and stamina. Try to tell a roughneck on a drilling rig, a lumberjack, a concrete worker, an iron worker or a mover that they are over training and have to take the day off. Guess what happens when you over train? Your body adapts and you become stronger.

this is the most intelligent and sharp comment i've ever read on overtraining. if you are on roids there's no fuckin'way to overtrain your body. if you are a natural bodybuilder recovery is crucial. one of the best lifter ever, mike mentzer, studied how a "natural" lifter should train. lots of lab studies demonstrates that if you don't let your muscle recovery it simply wont grow. anyway, there's no question about the fact that if you are on the juice, as CT, you'll NEVER overtrain. No matter what.

If you want to train more then yes it is possible, but you need to adapt to it that is at least if you got your life straight.
A lot of people got a high amount of stress even if they don't know it.
Must finish this, that or I fail and can't get a job.
Must stay impress at mine job, long workhours, good nutrition is getting ditched, Low Salary, wife, kids.
Unless your stress is under controle you won't be able to go the gym 7 days á week.
It's the stress that tear most people down not the workout training.

When you get down to the science of it, what determines whether you are over-training or not is your goal. Working the same muscle group everyday doing sets upon sets and reps upon reps is not the best way to put on size, but your endurance will be impeccable. That's why in boot camp and basic training, you run, ruck march, do pull ups, sit ups, and push ups til you puke everyday. Muscle, cardiovascular, and mental endurance are forged by "Overtraining". Muscle strength is created by always trying to go heavier than you did the day before. Some may call that "Overtraining". I call it going to the gym. If you want big muscles, you workout at 70-80% of your rep max and do 8-12 reps. So if you want to satisfy your ego, go do that. But at the end of the day, I'll be stronger and be able to go longer because I'm an "Overtraining" muthafucka!

Hello CT Fletcher I have been following your program for a while now. I don't believe in over training. I train my grip many times a day. I have uploaded a video on RUclips called the Silverback close 400 pound Iron Woody Bone Crusher gripper. next in my sights is the CoC number four gripper. Then I go back to train for closing the Iron Woody 500 pound gripper.
your a great mentor. I'm 50 years old. In the last two years I've had 1 stroke and 5 heart attacks. I've lost 60 pounds and my heart is healed. I have neuropathy in my legs and am using crutches. I say every day it's still your mother fucking set.

The term overtraining is used to describe the point at which you become injured or mentally fatigued due to excessive stress on the body. It does not refer to a particular training prescription. If your joints or ligaments start to hurt then you might need to switch it up. I have a lot of respect for what you do Ct. You say that switching up your routine is good. This is a way of avoiding overtraining. Split training is also a way of avoiding injury and allowing for recovery. Having terms like over training is just a good way for the fitness world to speak the same language. Some people may not understand what the terms mean so we should educate them on how to use the properly. Even gymnast have routines to avoid over use injuries. If we develop more consistency in terminology we can achieve more on a scientific level. Our bodies are nothing more than a complex machine like a car. If every car mechanic refered to the same problem using different terms it would be a little difficult to keep your car running. Overturning just means that you have become injured due to your training. If you are not injured then you are not overtrained, and there for "it is still your mothafu#kin set."

My question for CT Fletcher is why were natural bodybuilders like Leroy Colbert and Steve Reeves whom both really believe over training is detrimental, but they looked far better than CT has ever. They were far superior in overall muscle growth, and they were very strong as well.
I'm a huge Tom Platz fan, but he is not a good example. He has admitted to having used steroids during his bodybuilding career. The steroids allowed him to push his body far more than he could have naturally. You didn't stop to think about that, because you aren't natural either. You have bragged multiple times about training arms everyday, and you wouldn't get results that way naturally. Only enhanced athletes can do this.
Lastly, if you are a fan of Tom Platz, why do you only quarter squat and teach quarter squatting? Tom Platz was all about full range of motion on squats, and he rarely ever did half squats. He usually always made sure his hamstrings touched his calves at the bottom. That's a full squat, and that's the main reason his leg development was so far ahead of everyone of the time.

Overtraining is real and Dorian Yates admitted himself. Your body will build up the fibers when you crush it. But when you crush your fibers and even work more with crushed fibers you will probably get no results, since the goal is to damage fibers and the recover them. If you train for hours you might start to break down muscle tissue and it will by time lead you to the state where you stop building muscle, feel very tired. If you are gym guy you must know the feeling when you get to gym and you cant workout because you are tired. Thats sighn of overtraining, because your body doesnt get the time to recover. Your goal in the gym should not be raping the muscle. Your goal must be to give it a reason to grow.

Right on! Most people doing the "basic" routines are undertraining. They are essentially getting a pump. They think they have a hard workout because they get DOMS. DOMS is just a build up of lactate, it doesn't mean you have actually torn muscle fibers and forced it to grow.

    • @VelidAgovic
      @VelidAgovic 3 года назад

@@jasonbiggs7602 If DOMS is just a build up of lactate, than how comes that DOMS is most intense around 48 hours after the exercise, when lactate levels are stable again? What about neutrophils, macrophages?

As far as growing, my body responds to a prison style program,,for me I would call it military style. Example: I was at a military course, WLC..We had a break from class every hour. Every hour, while everyone else was smoking and joking, me and 4 other dudes would do 10 strict pullups, 25 pushups, 10 chinups, 25 situps, 5 pullups, 10 diamond pushups,25 situps. Superset, one after the other, non stop. Every hour we did this from 6AM, till 10pm. Some breaks we would substitute calf raises, body squats, and lunges. We called them "on the hours". We grew like crazy. I focus more on a West Side method for now. But we overtrained by many peoples standard. Yet it worked better than anything. We would also hit the gym here and there.

Over training is the only way to grow fast.
So do hard sets of one arm push up and pull up/one arm pull up with strict form till failure every single day. No matter what happens.... At least 5 failure sets EVERYDAY. More the better.
Can't do one arm push ups no more from being sore then do two arm push ups and after a month or so you will be amazed at your gains...
So long as you eat at least 20 times your bodyweight in lbs from natural foods, this will keep making you bigger each month.

No. Just because you've accomplished a lot does not mean you are correct with you're training. A man could have a PhD in mathematics and claim that 4 plus 4 is 56. He's wrong. Just because he's achieved more than most have achieve doesn't mean what he says is correct. Accomplishing really difficult goals does not prove somebody right or wrong.

I think that's not a good analogy for the subject discussed. Nevertheless, the "overtraining" studies are missunderstood. There is a decay in performance after prolonged periods (days, months) of muscular work, but it's also proven that the body can completely adapt to those work loads increasing the athlete's capacity beyond "normal" measurments, that is how people becomes the best, because no one else has adapted the body in the way they have.

I thought she would say keep it up instead she then told me that I need to "Get a life." Fuck her I going to continue overtraining and destroying my limits. Whenever it gets hard I say to myself "This is too easy!" and continue. Thanks for the inspiration/motivation.

The whole over-training phenomenon is some BS put out by two-bit entry level trainers across America to cater to their lazy, out-of-shape fitness beginners. For one of two reasons, either to ease them into the workout b/c they are beginners or to placate to their weak, lazy excuses to take the easy way out.
In reality overtraining can be a problem, but it is not an extra day or two or week of extra rest won't solve.

Seriously motivating video. I definitely want to get my bench press to 315lbs+ and my squat and deadlifts over 455+. Had my bench at most 275 last year but stopped and got my squat at over 455 back 6 years ago lol. Gonna try this overtraining for real.

there's no doubt this guy is on roids (and I hate roids) but that doesn't take away from the fact that he works his ass off in the gym

CT has an open challenge to anyone that wants to substantiate that claim, take him up on it if you're sure.

He use to compete in Power lifting meets that made sure he was natural. He's 100% natural. If that's you in your profile picture then you've clearly never lifted a day in your life and don't know what you're talking about.
