Wildscreen is thrilled to be virtually bringing them together for a very special Keynote conversation. They're separated by 77 years in age but united by one shared desire - to protect the natural world. Join them as they discuss some of the key issues facing
the planet - and what we can do to mitigate against them.

I feel a sense of dread. The USA has a consumer based economy. Shopping and wasting is what we do here.
Personally, my furniture is over 30yrs old, I've had my current car for 15yrs and the last one for 12, and I almost never throw away food. I believe in cleaning my plate. My friends and family think I'm strange, cheap, and rare. Sadly, they're right.
Perfectly right! Living in Asia happy, i moved back to Canada(America!) and I feel so sick of the waste that goes around here...especially, food.
A simple first step in the UK is to ban single use plastics! Why are we still able to buy plastic bags in major supermarkets? People and businesses can and will adapt to an outright ban. It was good to see the ban on single-use plastic straws, stirrers and cotton buds has come into force in England recently but eliminating other single use plastics has to be quickened.
Good step, but that wont't do anything in terms of the scale of the problem. Emissions need to be stopped before the 7 year deadline ends.
We should ban masks as a fisherman I’m seeing hundreds of them floating around washing up on beaches this is very damaging.
In all countries!
You’re repeating the distraction of consumer blame. This is NOT about plastics. This IS about government policy that permits the burning of fossil fuels PERIOD
@@idiotbox4180 well yea it is about the plastic rubbish seeing it everywhere I do not buy masks or my family.
May their message be heeded and not lost in the insular politics swirling around the world. The solutions will only begin with global dialogue.
Humanity should watch and share this lecture (Civilization 101 - The untold secret of civilization): ruclips.net/video/8PQ4svtAfmI/видео.html
This is a great conversation. One of the largest problems in the US is that our citizens are very reticent to make a sacrifice. We like our big TV's, our big cars and don't like to be told what to do. Reducing the use of fossil fuels, and ultimately finding renewable replacements is hard for many Americans to accept. Coupled with a substandard educational system that reduces critical thinking and reasoning, 30-40% of the country supports a reactionary president who is beyond anti-environmental. Environmental changes and reduced consumerism are not part of their plans.
What are they suppose to do. They have been indoctrinated since birth. The system just builds them up to be consumers. It is the way. The neo-liberal way. A systemic change is the only way our of this mess.
We have to stand in for the plants and animals as they speak not human languages..
I think the main problem is that humans have forgotten the language of nature
well said.

What two remarkable people whom I applaud 👏 Sir David is looking marvellous in his age almost parallel to his dedication and knowledge of the natural world 🌎.
Greta you have a natural calling, you must follow your path and take careful advice from selected people such as Sir David, Prince Charles UK 🇬🇧 especially the people of the earth who have suffered at a deep loss due to climate change and help the world 🌎 and it’s people. May God Bless You Both in your journey and keep you safe. For the love ❤️ of our world 🌎 Scotland 🏴 xx
Two exceptional people who selflessly loan their time, their compassion, and their understandings to the world. Thank you to Greta and to David. 🌸
Greta isn’t qualified to speak on anything...!
what have they done re solution for god sake any clown can say whats wrong as ~I do but how to put it right takes a saint !!!!!!!!! not an old man and kid blabering on !!!!!!!
Greta has such a beautiful soul!
Additionally, the fact that 54k people, to this point, have watched this and there's only 2.3k who've "liked" it, I believe, speaks to how much more information needs to be put in our awareness everyday... and, kept there until everyone recognizes the crisis for what it is AND how it can be reversed.
As someone said, would be great to start in schools, especially at a young age, as this crisis will be affecting them, long after I've returned to dust.
Bless both of you.
To the people watching this video, don't focus too much on David and Greta, focus on what they're saying. Look at what you can do to help.
Let's repeat again that this is not a show but a reality we need to improve. We must cooperate to give health back to ourselves and the world we've ruined.
dream on !
Comments here are so positive, in contrast to the unbelievably unkind, rude, abusive, stupid remarks attached to a RUclips interview I saw earlier. Bless both these outstanding humans.
dream on in the fields with flowers untill the flowers have gone its solutions we need not a sprog and an old man which I respect without doubt but neither give
you the solution any fool can say whats wrong but how do we put it right without living in caves again you tell me l look forward to the reply ????
Greta's maturity is unbelievable - her answer to moderator's question what would be the one thing we can do: "to educate ourselves to understand the issue" shows the wisdom that very few humans posses. Once humanity understands the issue, it will be much easier to implement the solutions.
I just hope that her generation will have persistence and similar maturity in understanding that it is Now that they have to act. Not tomorrow, not in 10 years.
There are very few political leaders who are able and willing to do the change. It is Greta's generation that is the only hope for humanity as they aren't yet fully conditioned by the rotten society which chases the profit and short-term interests while completely lacking a big picture which is: we've almost destroyed the life-support machine that we depend upon.
To educate ourselves we MUST watch and share this lecture on the untold secret of civilization (Civilization 101): ruclips.net/video/8PQ4svtAfmI/видео.html
I think Greta can become a great manager of communications, because she has learned to wonder about her own communication and abilities.
then after learning so much about communication, she can analyze it, observe it, and help it.
Greta made really smart and constructive remarks during this talk, and some were about issues in communication.
Sir David obviously enjoyed this a lot.
She will have a corporate job someday like working for the (useless) United Nations... 😹

Both my sweethearts . Loads of respect and love always.
I'm a boomer and any boomers who are environmentally concerned came to that understanding, we weren't born with it. Now we have almost entire generations coming through to whom our need for a healthy environment is obvious. Indeed it's estimated over 90% of people are concerned to some degree. 50 years ago there were very few of us and that's an extraordinary change in just a few decades.
Our species is changing the way we view our earth and whenever we change our perception of anything it changes our response to it. We're currently seeing the growth of that changed response and it's happening faster than the growth of environmental concern so we may well make it through this transition to a sustainable future. If not then unsustainable is terminal, but not for the earth David. Life will probably continue on this planet without us, just not in conditions we can survive.
This is about 'Save the Humans'.
Completely absorbed watching these two great Caretakers of the world- sending out so much Gratitude and thinking of more ways to offer a hand. Bravo!

This totally spoke to me. I was starting to think that the planet as we know it won’t survive and that we had lost the battle already, but it’s things like these that keeps me h in inspired to keep doing what I can because all the small things we do make a difference in time, but it’s still not enough. People in power need to take more notice of things like these and influence large companies to change their way of producing the products we use, too. Thanks to the both of you for keeping us going❤️❤️❤️
The film I am Greta, in the cinemas now I saw it yesterday, confirms your original view was right. Greta's phenomenon if soeaking to politicians got all the look-right reactions from them, but she could see it was not changing what they did.
We are an invasive species, mostly selfish cruel + irrational. The crisis is produced + driven naturally by our nature. But physical life has a lot of cruelties + fearsome physical dangers + terribly frustrating limitatiions, too. They will be gone if we become a world of ghosts, dwelling in the projected ghost of the natural world in its old undamaged form.
@@conscienceaginBlackadder We are programmed to be selfish. The system has corrupted our very identity. Humanity was a completely different animal before 10,000 years. We lived in harmony with each other. And then we created artificial scarcity. That damaged us, and we are fucked up today as a result of it.
I pledged to run in the seven continent marathon club a while ago that would be good for nationalism. Nationalism took so much practice for me. Nationalism and climate change and globalism great topics of discussion. Thank you for the support. I feel it's almost over here for me in Idaho.
Greta Thunberg's perceptions are truly remarkable. Older naturalists have seen the passing of so many species within relatively short lifespans. I can remark personally about so many bird species of field and meodow which I no longer see; Bobolink, Meodowlark, Eastern Bluebird and so many kinds of field sparrow. The same applies to marsh species that I commonly saw as a child: both species of marsh wren, bittern, 3 species of rail...the list goes on. The same applies to reptiles, amphibians, insects. After dark I listened to Whipooorwill, Bullfrog, Katydid and Woodcock. These experiences are but fond memories for me and have been denied to the young. There have been movements here and there in the past but never effectual in curbing these trends. The issues are not only global warming but habitat loss and overpopulation of our species. The epidemic has demonstrated that. It may be that it takes an epidemic and the threat of world social collapse to bring us to our senses. Greta Thunberg is giving voice to members of our species concerned with these issues and all those who cannot speak for themselves.
Thanks Greta and Sir David for highlighting the seriousness of the climate crisis. It is up to everyone to change their behaviour to save our planet we live in. You both are an inspiration to us all. Thanks to you both i have gone vegan, and am aware of not wasting food, and conscious of preserving electricity.
Thank you for this greta. Doing great job. Keep it up.🙂

Sir David Attenborough should live forever. He is irreplaceable.
I love both of you, and thank you deeply for your committment, energy, and clear vision. I'm glad you're both getting the interconnectedness/interdependence os the issues. Ancient cultures had this knowledge. Many considered nature to be sacred; earth, water, fire, air, space, species, habitat. All were treated with respect and love. Fouling, destroying, killing, etc..any of them would have been considered a horrific affront to life, if not acts of insanity. It's really very simple. If we approach these aspects of life; the elements, and their denizens as precious/sacred, then seeing the big picture is easy. We don't destroy soil, poison the water or air, we don't send endless junk into space. It's not too late. This wisdom still exists and humans are waking up to the fact that humans are only one species living in interdependence with all other forms. Going to these wisdom cultures and asking for their advice is a logical factor. Of course great hubris has kept modern culture apart from these more natural civilizations, but again, it's not too late. They have been begging us to listen to them, and today we should. Nows. We need to grow up and act like it for the sake of all future generations. Thank you.
instead of acting against the fire we argue who is pointing best at it, and why and what made him or her doing so. it's mindboggeling.
I liked this so much that I almost forgot to "like" it...

yes but whats the solution ???? talk is cheap always has been and always will be we have been talking for the last 15 years or more jesus !!!!!!!!!!!!
I admire Greta so much!
I remember when I had a meltdown on my way to school because I was thinking of environmental destruction. I was 8 too, like her.
But I felt totally helpless. I never would have dared going against the system. I couldn't even "win" against the adults in smaller things, let alone bring them to change their ways.
And I still feel that helplessness, particularly because there are still so many people worldwide who don't understand the existential threat we're under. It means I'd have to fight against stupidity and, as we say in Germany, "Against stupidity even the gods are powerless."
You are powerless... try and convince CHINA and INDIA to cease carbon emissions.. try to tell AUSTRALIA to cease mining
Two of my HEROES!
Thank you both for everything you do. I have the greatest respect and admiration for you - David for your great work in documenting Nature and educating us; and Greta for inspiring me to live a better life and to do what I can.

The real problem with the world is that there are too many people on it. And the stupid people outbreed the smart people. The world needs more Gretas and Davids. You two are so awesome!
We need to work out why we individually are so clever but collectively we are so stupid....
Good question. I think the truth is that we can be collectively clever. The story of CFC's and the holes in the ozone layer are very interesting. That problem, which could have been very serious for humanity, was pretty-much solved through international agreements to stop using CFCs as refrigerants, and a propellants in aerosol cans, etc.
The difference is that the oil industry is far larger and far more powerful than the CFC industry was.
So perhaps it is not about being collectively clever or not, but more a matter of power.
The oil industry's interests are in general opposite to the interests of humanity as a whole. That industry will lobby hard to be allowed to continue destroying the habitat and environment that all humans depend on to survive and thrive.
You can't stop the oil industry working in its own interest. You just can't. What you can do is stop politicians taking more notice of the oil lobby than of the interests of their populations as a whole. It's not easy, but you can do that.
another load of dreamers in a field full of flowers for god sake get to grips with things we need solutions not talk or hype solutions nothing more nothing less

@@paulmackilligin1754 Re: "a matter of power", the power to manipulate and undermine the common good, our common interests. Democracy is based on fairness for all. Manipulation undermines this fairness. Big Tobacco faught tooth and nail to be able to manipulate public opinion. In the end this one industry lost in the USA in the Master Tobacco Settlement. The other industries need to be dealt with as well.
Re: "You can't stop the oil industry working in its own interest. You just can't". Why should societies put up with minorities dictating and manipulating against society's interests? Corrupt politicians should lose their government entitlements and corruption is ANY behaviour undermining the common good.
We humans have not only the strength of "intelligent competitiveness", we also have the strength of "social cooperation". No other mammal can cooperate in millions and billions like we can. However, we not always do as e.g., wars show us. Hence we need SOCIAL INVESTMENTS in order to live better together. One such investment was the founding of the UN after WWII. We haven't had a WW for 3/4 of a century hence that move to increase world cooperation appears to have paid off. Living together does not happen by itself. We need to sit together and work things out in order to come to a fair for all resolution. We need to be wise and recognise manipulation not in the interest of the common good for what it is: corruption.
While the "divide and conquer" brigade gets us to focus on our individual issues, our collective issues are overrunning us. While we rearrange the Titanic's deckchairs, the ship is sinking. We need to focus on where the biggest problems are not the first thing that comes to mind or the first thing that is suggested by the "divide and conquer" brigade.
@@peterstrous2092 Yes, perhaps I should have said you can't stop the oil industry TRYING to work in it's own interests. You can't appeal to the oil industry's better nature, because it isn't human and has no 'better nature'. We can of course, and we must, work in OUR own interests to thwart the aims of the oil industry to maximise profits at any expense to humanity.
What I meant was that it is futile to try to persuade the oil industry not to be so mean to us. It can no more be reasoned with than a mosquito. The mosquito wants blood and I don't want to give it any. There's plenty I can do to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, but appealing to its 'better nature' isn't going to work. And neither is swearing at it - believe me, I've tried! A mosquito's nature is to bite me and there's no way to change that.
To limit the damage done by the oil industry our principal tools are governmental. We need to regulate, and to tax the industry. At present, our governments are actively subsidising the oil industry, so we have a lot of room for improvement there.
@@paulmackilligin1754 I agree, regulations are the only option. In 1994, 30 years after the US surgeon General declared smoking a health hazard, 7 CEOs of American big tobaccos still stated in court that they believed smoking in moderation is not unhealthy....

Around 9:15 David Attenborough describes being cut off and forced to deal with day to day survival. I think many people feel that way - fearful about health care or housing or feeding their family. Being kept in this state prevents them from finding a more sustainable way to live. They can sympathize, appreciate and even agree with the need for climate action... but today, see no ability to change... What every-day people need are new stories of a world they can live in... new ways of thinking about how beautiful life can be. They need these new stories to replace the horrid ones given to them by corporate leaders.
An epic dialog - tremendous thanks! Consumers must compete with politicians in exercising power over big business. Consume no superfluous or harmful products! Consume as little energy as possible, and as much as possible from renewable sources! Here in Germany, for instance, if I am correctly informed, the very dense railway network is largely electrified and runs exclusively on renewable sources! Keep following new developments!
Much respect to these two fine individuals
Thank you both❤️❤️❤️
One thing that everyone watching this can do is share this video to your social circles.
Thank you very much
Thanks Greta. I passed all my school exams and i learned nothing at all. What a waste of time. I wish i had never gone. Keep up the good work 😁👍
Despite Greta's speech "I should be in school", Is so instructive that Greta started by being able to take a step of her own outside the box that oppressive school tells kids to stay in. educationconsent.me/ www.authoritarianschooling.co.uk www.libed.org.uk/index.php/articles/414-high-learning-potential
In Sweden we have plastic wrappings on the organic vegetables and fruits, but not on the food processed a bit more damaging to nature.
I wish the wrappings would at the least switch for those products - So I could buy green (and a bit healthier) without stimulating the overall plastic production.
Nice, thank you very much!
Fantastic listening to this. Great leaders. So calm and cool Greta
Hello Greta I from Lima Peru
I switched to a small sustainable bank, try buy local food as much as possible. It's good te review the way I do things and realize the part I play in this world.
Also go vegan and watch this CRUCIAL lecture (and share): ruclips.net/video/8PQ4svtAfmI/видео.html
You can make biggest impact by going vegan.
Even buying local food(if meat) has a massive carbon footprint. I can’t understand how this information is hidden from us.
As long as it makes YOU feel better... 😹
dream on it always helps !!
This is one of the reasons I no longer eat animals.
🙌😄🙌
yea caus our fangs were made for just veggies.
@@Soulvex Yeah exactly! We certainly don't have scissor like teeth like sharks solely designed for tearing flesh off of bodies 😂😂
@@roshanadve3032 neither do many other animals..
@@Soulvex and they are likely omnivores who eat both plants and maybe some other animals. The bottom line is that us human animals can survive and thrive by only eating plants and it is more compassionate and more sustainable for our future to do so.
What a delightful interaction - thank you both - and those who put it together. This is how we need to listen to each other and learn from one another. Across all barriers.
Fantastic conversation between two of the worlds heavy weights. Thank you
If you watch this lecture and go vegan (if you are not already) you will be more heavy weight then them ;) ruclips.net/video/8PQ4svtAfmI/видео.html
what weight would that be is this the weight that the old chap has had a life to to put right but has not got there yet or the weight the whipersnaper thinks she is about to apply??
Why is there so much hate for an intelligent, caring young woman that is actively saving our planet? You're hate is the reason we are in trouble as a species & why we are not evolving.
Yeah this is a amazing conversation. Hope that people don't see this and just keep doing what they are doing!
Extra points with saying that we really are deviating our focus of the big problems with all media and talks. We really need to take actions!! Big or small just doing something to change!
Thak you! This was very informative for my class.
I'm dumbfounded. Not a single Greta-bashing comment below. Wow. Kudos to these two!
Thank you both for the wonderfully hopefull work you have done to save the planet 🌏. Pls encourage world leaders to sign the “declaration of human responsibility”(1997) which states:
It states: “As the holders of human rights and fundamental freedoms, all individuals, peoples, and communities in the exercise of their rights and freedoms, have the duty and responsibility to respect those of others, and a duty to strive for the promotion and observance thereof”.
Thank you.
Some people should just be allowed to live forever...
Well hasn’t he?
Love these two people. So thankful for them. "Make the world Greta again"
Wonderful! An historic interview. I would add, though, that both David and Greta would do well to begin to use the word "Degrowth".
Loved Greta's advice tot he older generation, "keep an open mind" to new ways of doing things.
It’s all pre meditated or written bullshit. If u don’t realise this by now you must be drunk lol
what advice would that be then to date i have not heard a single solutuion to this kids dreams whoops sorry yes if we all go back and live in caves the problem will go away
she needs to keep her mouth shut because all it does is make matters worse we need a young kid that are capitalist then you will see things happen because thats how things do
happen always have and always will buying selling dealing etc etc etc read history then you might just might get the Idea??????????
I agree with previous comment - we can't wait for politicians to solve the problem. If you care about the planet you need to go vegan now - that's how you can make the most impact.
another load of bolocks this just goes to show what we are really up against yep go vegan problem solved dont know what to say without being rude well i do ass hole !!
I like Greta's little style in this. She's a star with a cause.
This generation is quite impressive and we should all be very proud and stop the jealousy
The underlying problem, the bottom line, is the greed and selfishness of a few and the inability of the rest of us to recognise it .
Greta is wisdom beyond her age.great conversation.two respectable humans.
Somehow I came across this. A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
Look at all those book shelf full of books 😮
Actually those books stand for a sort of intellectual consumerism, „don‘t waste“ also refers to paper. All these books used to be trees. To Sir David‘s rescue it has to be admitted that e-books are only available since maybe 20 years.
