To be honest i broke up with my Korean boyfriend today because he didn't stop to say disgusting things about gay or lgbtq people.. i was shocked by his words.. i am a photographer in Germany, and i also do cosplay and "crossplay" shootings and I'm also a big lgbtq supporter.. our fight started over a photoshoot i took of a man in a female cosplay and the fight didn't stop for days.. he said "facts" about gay people that aren't even at least true and he tried to make me feel bad for being a supporter.. "if you would really love your gay friends you would tell them how bad their behavior ia for their body and soul" he said and even "homosexuality doesn't exist, it's an invention of modern culture" .. finally i broke up with him today because i could never marry a homophobic person, and now i stumbled upon this video, and all i want to say is: i'm so sorry! I never knew that you have to go through all this in Korea, because in Germany it's something so normal that people don't even need to talk about that.. i am and will ever be a big supporter, and i hope thw acceptance among koreans will grow! 💗

I loved listening to the 32 year old woman's story. Korea's may be slow on LGBTQ right now but when SHE was younger? ZERO LGBTQ support. To see her happy now is so great but also she talks like a news announcer/or at least her dictation is really good.

My friend is lesbian and she’s from Korea she’s a exchange student everyone thought she was a guy but I knew she was a girl by the way she looks but she says she’s a girl she likes the style of guy clothing and her girlfriend she loves to FaceTime with while in homeroom... and she came out that’s when I knew she was a lesbian for real ... and I was happy for her and her parents actually support it and I’m very surprised because in Korea it’s very conservative and I wish it’s more open to these type of topics and support it
I would guess (or at least would like to think) that it's only the really bigoted people who even bother to post bile, and that they don't reflect the general sentiment. Korea may still have a lot of progress to make regarding LGBT status in society, but like it does everything else, I'm willing to be that'll change fast.

I actually heard that in Japan (and probably other not christian and islamic countries) homosexuality was not frowned upon originally as their traditional religions did not have anything against it. Unfortunately that changed for the worse when Europe forced this belief on the rest of the world.
Yes you're right! It was also the case in many African countries. Homosexual acts were done amongst men and women but when the Europeans came to colonise Africa they inflicted their Christianity upon them and told them it was wrong to do those sort of acts. Now to this day that scar is still very apparent as there's such a stigma towards homosexualiy as it is illegal to be gay in many African countries and if the authorities were to find out you were gay, you'll be thrown into jail or executed. But yes it's also the case in many other countries around the world unfortunately :(

When I arrived in Korea I must say I knew the country was conservative but I didn't expected it to be that much hetero centered and homosexuality being such a taboo! But I'm glad I sometimes see some gay and lesbian couples in hongdae streets, it makes me believe there's hope for lgbt+ community ♡
it'll get better. New generations will be more and more exposed to acceptance and eventually it will be accepted. Sadly it just takes a lot of time because you can't just change people's minds

Coming from europe, this video makes me really sad. I don´t know what sexuality i have, because i don´t fall in love with men or woman, but with humans. Of course we have some older people who don´t like homosexuals, but all the younger people don´t even have a concern about it. They don´t even call it "accepting". That is a thing of europe i´m really proud of.
Ikr? It feels really weird to see that in other countries people still need to be concerned about being "accepted". I'm from Brazil and we're probably not the most open minded place but we do have the largest pride parade in the world and for younger generations, like mine (i'm in high school) it's just wrong to be homophobic, if anyone says something that might sound homophobic your friends are gonna call you out on it, but in korea even young people are still close-minded and they see it something normal. They just don't talk about lgbt people or all the prejudice that goes around the country as if it's not even an issue and it feels so strange to see something like that when you live in a place where diversity is everywhere.

+DiniGasmus I don't think it's necessarily a mental illness but it's definitely a choice. I say this because I used to be like them. I was raised in a Christian household and I felt that way because I was told to. Once I grew up, went to Uni and went out into the world I realized how wrong and how stupid it is to hate people for no apparent reason. We are all the same, it took time and a lot of un-learning all of the brainwashing before I realized that.

Great video. I find funny that most heterosexual men from Korea hate gays but most of them look gay for stereotypical heterosexual looks. And this girls, none of them are disgusting, in Mexico as an example gays and lesbians for a long time were also treated badly but it was due to catholicism and Spanish beliefs. I actually heard that in Japan (and probably other not christian and islamic countries) homosexuality was not frowned upon originally as their traditional religions did not have anything against it. Unfortunately that changed for the worse when Europe forced this belief on the rest of the world.

It was also the case in many African countries. Homosexual acts were done amongst men and women but when the Europeans came to colonise Africa they inflicted their Christianity upon them and told them it was wrong to do those sort of acts. Now to this day that scar is still very apparent as there's such a stigma towards homosexualiy as it is illegal to be gay in many African countries and if the authorities were to find out you were gay, you'll be thrown into jail or executed. But yes it's also the case in many other countries around the world unfortunately :(
This has nothing to do with religions, a normal human being -even non-religious- can understand why homosexuality is not acceptable. But Americans and other western people don't like this fact, so the whole world should follow what they thing is right. Ridiculous.

When I arrived in Korea I must say I knew the country was conservative but I didn't expected it to be that much hetero centered and homosexuality being such a taboo! But I'm glad I sometimes see some gay and lesbian couples in hongdae streets, it makes me believe there's hope for lgbt+ community ♡

Coming from europe, this video makes me really sad. I don´t know what sexuality i have, because i don´t fall in love with men or woman, but with humans.
Of course we have some older people who don´t like homosexuals, but all the younger people don´t even have a concern about it. They don´t even call it "accepting".

Ikr? It feels really weird to see that in other countries people still need to be concerned about being "accepted". I'm from Brazil and we're probably not the most open minded place but we do have the largest pride parade in the world and for younger generations, like mine (i'm in high school) it's just wrong to be homophobic, if anyone says something that might sound homophobic your friends are gonna call you out on it, but in korea even young people are still close-minded and they see it something normal. They just don't talk about lgbt people or all the prejudice that goes around the country as if it's not even an issue and it feels so strange to see something like that when you live in a place where diversity is everywhere.

They are also humans. I don't understand why they hate (dislike) them.. They are living their own life. People don't have to judge them, just because they like someone from the same sex. +DiniGasmus I don't think it's necessarily a mental illness but it's definitely a choice. I say this because I used to be like them. I was raised in a Christian household and I felt that way because I was told to. Once I grew up, went to Uni and went out into the world I realized how wrong and how stupid it is to hate people for no apparent reason. We are all the same, it took time and a lot of un-learning all of the brainwashing before I realized that.
+DiniGasmus This is ableist. Homophobia is sinful, but it's not a mental illness. Mental illnesses are conditions one is born with, not an ideology that is acquired.

이건 솔직히 말하면 다수인 이성애자가 소수인 성소수자분들에게 가하는 일종의 폭력인거죠. 내가 보기싫으니 음지에 처박혀 살아라...이거 아닌가요?
전 성소수자분들이 한국사회 양지에 당당히 나오는것을 넘어서 이성애자외 똑같은 인간으로 누려야할 법적권리를 보장받을수 있는 성숙한 한국사회가 되길 바래요. 근데 그렇게 되려면 성소수자분들이 더 많이 목소리를 내고 다수의 권력에 맞서 많이 싸우고 투쟁해야해요. 미국도 성소수자분들이 오랜시간 투쟁하고 싸워서 법적 권리를 부여받을수 있었어요. 여성인권도 마찬가지 과정을 통해 얻어진거구요.
우리나란 아직 경제성장에비해 시민의식이 성숙하지 못해 성소수자 장애인 여성인권등의 문제에 인권의식이 많이 결여되어 있어요. 하지만 앞으로 더 올바른 방향으로 한국사회가 나아갈거라고 믿어요.
인간의 역사는 원래 피기득권층가 기득권층을 향해 투쟁해서 원하는걸 취득하는 역사의 반복이죠. 힘드시더라도 용기내시고 목소리를 내세요.

Great video. I find funny that most heterosexual men from Korea hate gays but most of them look gay for stereotypical heterosexual looks. And this girls, none of them are disgusting, in Mexico as an example gays and lesbians for a long time were also treated badly but it was due to catholicism and Spanish beliefs. We are nowhere near of being as open minded as Europe right now but the change is happening, slowly but with results.
