Our tour begins at the Arch of Hadrian, a grand monument that blends the best of Roman and Greek influences in Athens. Erected in honour of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, it marks the boundary between the ancient city of Athens and the Roman-constructed city.
Just a stone's throw away, the Temple of Olympian Zeus looms large, its colossal pillars reaching towards the sky, remnants of what was once the largest temple in Greece. Dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods, it encapsulates the grandeur of ancient Greece.
Next, we see the Statue of Melina Mercouri, an emblem of Greece's vibrant arts scene and passionate fight for cultural heritage. Mercouri's legacy as an actress and later as a politician is closely tied to the identity of modern Athens.
Then it's Loukoumades at Dionysiou Areopagitou 3, showcasing traditional Greek cuisine. This spot, known for its delicious Greek doughnuts, epitomizes the rich culinary traditions of Athens Greece.
Nearby, the five-star AthensWas Design Hotel offers a glimpse into contemporary Greek design and luxury, and one of the best hotels in Athens Greece.
Nest, it's the Ioannis Makriyiannis Statue that honours a key figure in Greece's fight for independence in the 19th century, adding a layer of historical depth to the walking tour.
I will then show you the best entrances to the Acropolis of Athens and the Acropolis Museum and why buying tickets online is essential to skip the line.
We then walk through the Plaka neighbourhood to reveal the charming heart of old Athens, with its narrow streets, neoclassical architecture, and lively markets that capture the essence of a bygone era yet buzzing with contemporary life.
A stop at the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates introduces visitors to the world of ancient Greek theatre and cultural patronage, while a visit to and inside the world-famous Brettos bar in Plaka offers a taste of local spirits in one of Athens' most colourful and historic settings.
The journey continues with the Tower of the Winds, the Roman Forum of Athens (Roman Agora), and Hadrian's Library, each a beacon of ancient history and architecture.
The walk around Monastiraki Square and a visit to the Church of Pantanassa round out the tour, encapsulating the vibrant spirit and deep historical roots of central Athens.
This Athens walking tour through Plaka and Monastiraki, captured in Greece 4k, is not just a travel guide; it's an invitation to experience the layers of history, culture, and everyday life that make Athens an eternal city. From the grandeur of the Acropolis of Athens to the intimate corners of Plaka, this journey offers a comprehensive look at the city's rich tapestry, making it an essential experience for anyone interested in the history, beauty, and soul of Athens.

i love your video. We will be in Athen in August. Our hotel is close to the doughnut place. We will follow your walking tour. How long did it take you? We are planning our tour as we will be only 2 nights in Athens.

Richard, I'm so glad you liked the video. To answer your question...about 30 - 40 minutes. There's other walking tours you may find interesting as well, and since you are going at the busiest time and only have two nights, may I suggest you check out the the video: New system for Acropolis tickets at ruclips.net/video/pQMJ3kCWvww/видео.html - because there are now limits on the number who can see this not only for the day, but also every hour. So, you may want to book before you go because this guarantees you have a place. But I was also go as early in the morning as possible to avoid closure due to heat. Thanks again, and if you have any questions, just let me know.

@@GoExploreGreece Thank you for the quick reply! Trust me, I am watching all your walking tours video at the moment, while working like the syntagma, athens cathedral and of course from the Hadrian's Library to Monasteraki. We booked our combo tickets for AM tour too. I signed up for a free walking tour too that starts at Syntagma. Should I proceed with it? or just follow your video?

Glad you're watching other videos and booked tickets to the AM. In terms of the free walking tour I'm not sure of the details, but since it's free it's worth a go. I really hope you enjoy your two days in Athens, and if you have any questions now and in the future please feel free to ask. Thanks again.
      Ian.

Im watching the Athens: Evening Walking Tour in 4K now. Will definitely go to Attica to try those pies. We will try to get more in on the Athens Happy Train to go to the Panathenaic stadium instead of us walking. By the way, our hotel is Athens Gate Hotel. I believe is pretty close to the stadium and the temple of Olympian Zeus. Do you suggest to go to the South Entrance of the Parthenon? I'm just concern that we will not see the Propylaea and the Temple of Athen Nike first?. Like we will start from the back to front?

    • @GoExploreGreece
      @GoExploreGreece  5 дней назад +1

Go from the entrance which is opposite the Acropolis Museum. That way you'll get to see Theatre of Dionysus, then Odeon of Heroes Atticus, then make you way up and through the Propylaea. As you come out you will see the Parthenon. Turn right before you walk to it and at the end is the Temple.of Athena Nike. Don't forget the Erechtheion with Caryatids (statues), and.for best photos of the front of the Parthenon, go to the opposite side when you first see it as there's no scaffolding. Also, don't forget to look over the walls as there's spectacular views. Go to the point where you see the Greek flag on the pole.

@@GoExploreGreece Ian. I plan to take the X95 bus from the airport. And get off Syntagma Square. From there i plan to walk to my hotel. My hotel is close to the deep-fried donut (lukamades) shop you've mentioned. Is it doable?

Just to be certain: If it's the one below, then it's doable. It's going to be a good ten minutes walk and the pavements will not be smooth.
