Thank you so much! Our head tech that we have had for 25 years just passed away from COVID. I have been enlisted as the new tech ,this is not my background but I firmly believe that you must not accept defeat without a rigorous try. Because of this video I am confident that I will be equipped to do this client’s order. This is greatly appreciated.
Hey Jon - Nice work, looks like a great start to your Windows Server admin series - keep em coming! Great tips on partitioning and and server editions.
Hi John, I have a question about Active Directory. Why I do not have the LOCAL USERS AND GROUPS in COMPUTER MANAGEMENT TOOL? Is there any way to display that section?
@@groove_kidman Hi, this is normal. When you install AD DS for the first time you are moving from a peer to peer network model to server/client model. A domain controller no longer has local accounts. A non DC that is a member of a domain does. But all account and group management in Active Directory is done via the Active Directory Users & Computers tool. Server Manager > Manage.
@@ittaster Thanks Jon! I like the your videos and it is very starter-friendly! I wish I could see more videos about windows server skills in the future!
I am a retired Land Surveyor who has worked for larger Engineering firms where we would share Engineering Data from the Field Surveyors to the Office Surveyors to the Civil Engineers and Architects and back and forth through the companies File Servers, to complete a Land Development Project. Now I am trying to make for my own Home Server. I found an older Desktop Computer with 64GB RAM and 7.28TB Storage. I have downloaded and done a partial installation on Windows Server 2019 Standard in my computer. But now I am wondering what is the progression or sequence as to which of your video's on Windows Server 2019 might come first, second, third............... Your video's have been most understandable to me regarding Windows Server 2019. You might consider making a video on the sequence or progression of all the Windows Server 2019 video's which is the foundation and how you build your way up.
Hi, many thanks for your comments👍 Learning Windows Server, my suggestion would be to begin with installation & initial config, AD DS installation & configuration, DHCP, joining a Windows workstation to a domain, followed by creating users and sharing files and folders. Best wishes Jon
Hi, there are some important differences for example, the number of virtual machines you can have. There's also a difference in cost too. Microsoft have documentation online (a full list) that compares the features and editions.
Is there a different installation ISO for each version of Server 2019 or is it the serial # that enables the different features from the one ISO...? (EG Std or DataCenter)
Hi, the single ISO contains Windows Server Standard and Datacentre (desktop experience and server core editions). You get to choose the edition to install during the installation process.
I am using Hyper V for this. But for some reason the when I try to make a 60GB petition it only letting make only up to 20GB petition size? Is there a Hyper V setting which I need to change?
Hi, documentation is really important, some things to consider documenting might include: hostname, IP addresses, partition sizes, additional roles, and of course store passwords securely. During the installation of Active Directory Domain Services role much of the configuration selections can be exported also.
Hi, I always suggest starting off with the desktop environment (GUI) and experiment with Server Core & Powershell later. You can of course practice Powershell with the desktop (GUI)environment too.
I was trying to create a VM in my vcenter using 2k19 iso from datastore....I never got 6:44 screen...Installation ends in Command Prompt, i am not getting GUI of windows
Hi, sounds like you may have installed the Server Core version. During the install take care to select the (Desktop Experience) during the installation.
