    Johnny Sain, who pitched from 1942-55, was both the last pitcher to face Babe Ruth in an organized baseball game and the first to face Jackie Robinson in an MLB game.

      @@TheCheesePizzaGuy Ruth was chosen as a manager to draw attention to the game and raise more money for the Red Cross, which the game benefited, and then inserted himself. (This is why I said “organized baseball” and not “MLB” with regard to him.)

    The record for most innings pitched in a season belongs to Will White, who pitched 680 innings in 1879 for the Cincinnati Reds. That is equivalent to pitching 75.5 complete 9-inning games. Despite this achievement along with winning 229 games in his 10-year career, Will White is not in the hall of fame.

    The highest Wins Against Replacement (WAR) by a player in a season within the last 100 years was Dwight Gooden's 1985 season, when he had a WAR of 13.3. He won the NL Cy Young award but only finished 4th in MVP voting that season. For comparison, Barry Bonds had a WAR of 11.9 in his 2001 season (when he hit 73 home runs).

    Logan Webb's first career home run was the last by a pitcher (excluding two-way players). He hit a home run in the Giants last regular season game in 2021, no pitchers hit home runs during the 2021 playoffs, and the MLB implemented universal DH the following season (after trialing it during the COVID shortened 2020 season).

    The Cleveland Spiders are actually apart of the St Louis Cardinals

    • @richardsiemion5903
      @richardsiemion5903 Год назад

      Yes and No. The St. Louis perfectos owner bought the spiders and took the best players allowing that franchise to die. They went 11-101 on the road making a record of road losses impossible to beat considering you don’t play they many road games. In short … the plot of the 1980s major league was done to theCleveland spiders in 1899 who won a temple cup w few seasons prior. The same thing happened to the Baltimore Orioles for the Pennant winning Brooklyn Superbas (Dodgers)
      My hot take …. It was done by design so the western league (later changed to the American League and elevated to major league status in 1901) could put teams in those cities. The Grand Rapids Rippers relocated to Cleveland in 1900 and Baltimore got a team in 1901 that folded after 1902 which made room for the NY Highlanders (Yankees) in 1903. The Yankees are technically an expansion Franchise and the 7 other charter teams only have the Tigers, Guardians, Red Sox and White Sox playing in the same city as 1901….
