  • Alone in the night
    On a dark hill
    With pines around me
    Spicy and still
    And a heaven full of stars
    Over my head
    White and topaz
    And misty red;
    Myriads with beating
    Hearts of fire
    The aeons
    Cannot vex or tire;
    Up the dome of heaven
    Like a great hillI watch them marching
    Stately and still
    And I know that I
    Am honored to be
    Witness
    Of so much majesty
    This rendition of Sara Teasdale’s hauntingly beautiful poem, Stars, as composed by Ēriks Ešenvalds in 2011, speaks to the vastness of the wonder that is nature. Teasdale admired the stars, the beating hearts of fire, that shone alongside her in what was a truly lonely life. It reminds us of the immeasurable majesty of the universe.
    Performed by the TUKS Camerata
