Thank you so much for making this video. I bought a old exmark metro at a auction. Only had a single speed due to the shifter just flopping around. So price was right. Opened the case up and now, thanks to your video, I can see that the shaft is rusty and not allowing the collar to move. They must have tried to force it and bent the forks, popping it off the collar. Time to order a new fork and clean her up.
Thank you for the video. Mine is slipping and you gave me an inside look before I took it apart. Now I can order some parts without having the transmission apart while waiting. You have saved me some time. Thank you!!
I have a belt drive walk behind that has that same gearbox mine won’t stay in 3rd gear I can get it in 3rd and it will go but it seems like it’s popping out of gear all the other gears work everything inside of it looks good
Thanks a ton for the video. My issue is stuck in neutral. The ring that the shift arm moves in and out of gear won’t move so it won’t push it into gear. Does this mean the keyed area is rusted onto the shaft? Please help
Odd question for a different application of these Transmissions: if you spin the input shaft one way the output shaft turns a certain way. If you turn the input shaft the opposite way does the output shaft likewise turn the opposite direction? Nice video, thank you very much.
Hi! What could be wrong with the Peerles 700 5 speed When the machine is running, it doesn't go overboard and shake the gear stick What could be wrong and where can I get parts ordered in Finland?
Dang it, all you had to do was do a close up of the end thrust washer & I would know which way they go, now I need to find another video explaining which direction the thrust washers go.... Mine were both ways so I couldn't determine which is right. I'm guessing that the bevel needs to be to the left or out so the keys will hit the rounded part & bounce inward as they go in. ??
Using oil in a gearbox to mow may not lubricate the gears as well since everything is moving at a slower speed. There is a grease you can use called cornhead grease that is a cross between oil and grease mix. I think it would work perfect for your application.
Thank you for the video very helpful. Can gears & internal parts be purchased or do I need to find used Trans to salvage parts. I’m struggling to find and lawn mower shops, they just want to sell new, complete trans.
Thank you for your explaination of Perless gear box it`s help me very much just for the moment when I`am just try to repair ,oke`Y just find the shifter on shaft to change gear was on wrong way so i don`t work correct And I pricienrt your explanation on yuor video very much Thank you Anders from Sweden 2020-06-09
Great video! I have a Peerless Model 505 and the schematic does not show the washers you mentioned between the output gears? What lub do you use? If oil, how to you keep it from leaking out?
i would use cornhead grease made by john deere. if using oil go with a gear type oil but you will need an oil seal where the input shaft is. The washers between the output gears need to be there otherwise your trans will not stay in gear.
@ZigZag9 HEY ZIG what I want to know is when I have my lawnmower ON in NEUTRAL then i put into ANY GEAR it won't move,,,,But if i turn it OFF & put into any GEAR 12345-REVERSE it a go in that GEAR only when the motor is on it doesn't move what am i'm missing here bud PLEASE in needs some HELP!!!!!
Thank you for the video! I have the similar gearbox, but it has only 2 switching keys. Can you please give me the ID number of gearbox having 4 keys? The gerbox weakest point is the switching keys, I had to replace them already 2 times.
Thank you for your kind answer, but the reason I asked the certain ID number to find the 4 shift key peerless 700 gear. So far I had no success findig it.
I have a very similar transmission in an ExMark Metro-14k-5 It suddenly stopped driving the left drive wheel but the right side still drives. What would cause the left side to stop driving under load?
My dad was pushing snow with his riding mower with a peerless gearbox 758A. He pushed hard and then it broke. No gear action forward of backwards. Any ideas what likely has broken? I assume this is something that might happen in lawnmower racing also. Where to buy parts? Thanks to your awsome video im going to open it up and try to diagnose it.
do you know why my 700-072 4 key would slip? Well I thought Id have missing gear teeth on the gears why it would slip and re grab... come to find out after inspecting, my 4 key is a 3 key! Will the lack of one key cause the slippage??

PLEASE RESPOND: I have a peerless 700 with a H pattern shifter. How do I take it apart? Will anything jump out when dissembling?? It’s the 3 speed model. Help would be MUCH appreciated
@@Farmtractor There should be a tag on the case with the model number and code. your local lawnmower repair shop should be able to order all the parts you will need.
Some shops will tell you this trans is not serviceable. Changing the keys is common every few years for heavier mowers. Dont listen to buy new one BS. These trans are simple, will run forever with proper service.

Perfect explanation! Anyone about to repair there’s would benefit greatly having watched your video. Nice Job.
Very helpful thanks for making this showing, i was able to swap out internals on my transmission
Oh, by the way, I love the ingenious stand you’re using. I’ll be sure to use that!

Where did you find parts
Thanks for the explanation. I got to de-rustify one of these that got full of water.
Excellent! Thank you for your time and ability.
Yes plz show your racing lawn mower and racing video also thx great video thank you from AZ

Yes it would.
Im new to this. Is it possible to put in next gear while the wheels are spinning? Its not like a clutch on a car 😅
One of the gears in my transmission is missing several teeth. How do I identify the gear so I can order a new one?
Hi! What could be wrong with the Peerles 700 5 speed

excellent video! How do you make the transmission faster? I have that transmission on my scag 36” walk behind and would like to move faster. Thank you

Is there a downside to running oil instead of grease in a gearbox that will be used to mow, not race?

ID number is not that necessary all you would need to do is find another peerless 700 with the four shift keys. Easy as simply changing out the shaft.
Thank you for your kind answer, but the reason I asked the certain ID number to find the 4 shift key peerless 700 gear. So far I had no success findig it.
What would cause hard shifting ?
I love it thank you good job
Can you give me the quantity of gear oil you put in the casing before closing it back up?
I just filled it up about halfway with automotive gear oil. Quantity of oil is based on your preference in my opinion.

Thanks buddy for the comment. it sounds like it might be the shift keys or the gears themselves. its hard to tell without opening it up.
pozz na ovom mjenjaču kada polazim u 4 ili 5 brzini malo mi zaškripi na startu, ali kasnije uredno sve ide, znači samo na startu

I ended up just ordering a new unit, but this particular model is pricey and might order a new 4 key shaft and fix the existing one to sell

These do not normally use oil. They have grease from the factory. You may have damaged gears causing the noise.
I have a toro 8-25 wheel horse that will work in 1st through 3rd but not 4th or 5th - do you think I need new shift keys? Thanks
its hard to tell. i would probably open it up and see whats going on inside. shift keys are possibly worn but it sounds more like gears.
Alan's small engine service thanks ! I guess the only way to find out is to take it apart - now I’m down to only 1st and reverse
Is it good for racing

There should be bolts holding the case together. nothing will jump out at you just slowly split the case apart.
