It’s been nearly 10 years since this video was made. All the original 3 terminals are now closed and the new terminal A just completed its first day of operation.
Being from KC, I can tell you it needs updates, but it's super easy for people to just arrive and catch the plane quick. Bag checking and security are always really fast, and everyone's really chill.
This airport never feels busy. It is actually a great airport to fly out of. You can show up at the terminal 30 min. before your flight and easily make it in time. I wouldn't recommend cutting it that close of course. There really isn't much to do in this airport so if you have time on your hands you will likely get bored, however, it is very unlikely you will have a connecting flight through this airport, maybe on Southwest. The airport staff is pretty easy-going here. One more, thing, the city has just approved a remodel to a single terminal so you will no longer need to worry about going outside and back in again if you have to change terminals.
You should most definitely repost ! The new MCI airport is opening up March of 2023 I grow up my whole life flying to & from this airport I even work there right now 😂 it’s a bittersweet moment seeing how it looked originally then how it does now with the new airport being build & how terminal A was demolished , but I’m pretty sure people would love to see how it use to look like before :)
Great video. Dallas/Fort Worth Airport was built with a similar design. Still, it was heavily remodeled to accommodate Braniff (and later) American Airlines' colossal hubs there so passengers wouldn't have to check in and out of security to change planes like you have to in KCMO. MCI/Kansas City was supposed to be home to TWA's hub. It was moved to St. Louis because Kansas City wouldn't remodel the terminals for hub operations after paying so much money to build them to accommodate TWA's demands. They couldn't help that the airport was rendered obsolete within a month of opening due to the changes in Security.
No airport is gorgeous anymore, its all about the functioning and safety. But Kansas City has done a great job making it easy for incoming and outgoing flights for passengers, easy to retreive luggage, shuttle buses, adequate parking. Thank you for posting this informative video 💗👍☺
I worked there from 84 to 96, Wells Fargo, Wackenhut, Continental Airlines and employee bus driver.and fell 4 a ticket agent. I would kinda like to see it again.
Tight connections are tough. Depending on your gates you may have to go through security a second time (but I'm not positive). But as you can see, the terminals and gates look pretty similar, so don't worry about not having too much time to see MCI.
I'll be flying in here on the 26th of October. Too bad I won't get much time to look around, I have two connections to make and they are 25 minutes apart.
Not unusual both Denver and Atlanta have teminals that are seperate buildings although Denver's A concourse is connected to the main building by a walkway.
Could you please tell me how far it is from Kansas State University, Kansas? I am from India, and I am planning to go for training at Kansas State University. plsease reply
Haven't been through here in ages. I remember the Braniff days, these little horse-shoes would get packed with people. Used to feel real ultra-modern back in the day but now seems dated.
This airport was definitely pre 9/11. Security back then was very simple. This airport needs major remodeling. It's one of the worst rated airports and has a few bathrooms out of all the terminals. Once had a 2 Our wait. It was so boring.
Love KC, but I'm going to be real here; this is hands down the worst airport I've ever seen in my entire life. Even LGA, MSY and ORD are better in some ways. KC deserves a better airport than this.
yeah looks like a bomb shelter it's small compared to Indianapolis kansa is old and out dated but it's probably a good place when Toto and the tornado comes
I can see the comparison to a bomb shelter architecture-wise. In terms of passenger traffic though, MCI had 4,982,772 passengers in 2014, compared to 3,605,908 for IND. And as Southwest noted, the airport is actually in Missouri. (But there are definitely tornadoes in Missouri too)
This place looks like a bunker with all the raw concrete. It's definitely one of the ugliest, worst designed airports I've seen and been to. Had a 6 hour layover here when I picked my girlfriend up from Illinois to bring to California in late July. Couldn't wait to leave.
And for those exact same reasons are why I love it more than any other airport on earth. It has an Industrial Salt of the Earth kind of sex appeal that is unparalleled anywhere. ALSO, it was fucking rad before you were in diapers and the taliban fucked it up for everyone. None of that bullshit glassed wall stuff was there. You could walk in, with your ticket in hand and board your plane in under 10 seconds. Some people just will never get it I guess. Maybe you just need more led lighting, plastic shit everywhere, usb ports in the floors, walls, chairs, trashcans, doors and escalators. THE ONLY THING this airport needs is a crew to run around real quick and wash the windows, that's it.

Just watching this video brings back so many memories.

I miss the old terminals but the new airport is a major improvement. It’s not even close.
Thanks so much for making this vid. I've been too this airport about a thousand times in my life. Its my hometown airport.
Mine too. Ha.

makes me so homesick. I love this airport and this town
RESPECT TO YOU BECAUSE YOU PUT SO MUCH TIME INTO YOUR VIDEOS

How can i applay a job in a airport
Nice
Sure is quiet in that airport. You can usually hear all kinds of announcements playing at the same time in orlando.
This airport is awfully lonely at 10:30 at night, unlike my hometown PDX which always has some life. The TSA here was a lot more pleasant though!
I flew to Vegas from there a little while ago. It's a great city that has a great airport, you should make a tour over there.
I live in kanas city like 49 minutes from the airport and it is always quiet and nice to be in when I traveling to France
I love the Brutalist design of the terminals especially the ceiling.
Brutalist design is extremely ugly, I'm glad this is all gone
i really hope when the new terminal gets built that we have a lounge like Delta Skyclub, United Club, Admiral Lounge and Priority Pass Lounge
I worked there from 84 to 96, Wells Fargo, Wackenhut, Continental Airlines and employee bus driver.and fell 4 a ticket agent. I would kinda like to see it again.
I hope you can see it again too, but it might make you sad to see the closed terminal :(
If. You see this, please make the explaining longer. It is hard to read it all. Thanks
I flew in once and LIKE it. Easy in and easy out. Others you have to walk all over.
Read the Google Map's most recent reviews of this airport they're hilarious.

You just have to look in the perspective. Kansas resident here

Also Midwest had a hub at MCI.
Just remember if you plan on eating you must get your food and drink before security. Once you pass security your on your on.

SHREYA MANDAL it is about 2 hours away from there

Has Terminal A been shut down & torn down?
According to Wikipedia, it stopped operations in January 2014. But the structure is still there.
It is about 1/3 torn down as of 6-17-19.
As of early 2020, the terminal is now being build. Terminal A is terminated.
Oh wow airport pretty big place
I live there!
This airport was definitely pre 9/11. Security back then was very simple. This airport needs major remodeling. It's one of the worst rated airports and has a few bathrooms out of all the terminals. Once had a 2
Our wait. It was so boring.
I always travel here.
Great video but it looks like a small airport
Yeah???? And?
airport
sports spirits i see
The National Guard been trained to fly airplane
but I like the kc totals world series champs
All airports need talking elevators
They can get the soldiers the pilots
They are train to fly airplanes
I kinda disliked this airport for some reason. It just was a pain in the tuckus to deal with.
This is the worst airport, next to La Guardia, in the United States. Glad KC is getting a new terminal that will better reflect it as a great city.
Love KC, but I'm going to be real here; this is hands down the worst airport I've ever seen in my entire life. Even LGA, MSY and ORD are better in some ways. KC deserves a better airport than this.

Are yo trying to be funny? And this airport is in Kansas City Missouri. toto and tornados are in Kansas

XD
I was thinking the exact same, after living in Kansas, people don't realize there is a Kansas City, Missouri, and a Kansas City, Kansas
this airport looks old and boring this airport has to be a bit larger in size and it has to increase its facilities and make it fancy
My airport
Yea our airport is ugly i know 😂 its being renovated right now dont worry 😂😂
The new airport is going to be way smaller
It’s going to be bigger
Feels like I just step backed in the 80's. Even the people with their cow faces and dress code, feels very outdated.
This place looks like a bunker with all the raw concrete. It's definitely one of the ugliest, worst designed airports I've seen and been to. Had a 6 hour layover here when I picked my girlfriend up from Illinois to bring to California in late July. Couldn't wait to leave.
Well, the airport was build in the late 1960's, and never updated. What would you expect?
...why are you so salty...over an airport design...
And for those exact same reasons are why I love it more than any other airport on earth. It has an Industrial Salt of the Earth kind of sex appeal that is unparalleled anywhere. No it's not.
