  • The public will vote, but ahead of the words on the ballot came the battle for bids -- some done behind closed doors. Documentary filmmaker Michael Price takes a look into the process, and talks to City Council members who -- for this airport discussion at least -- may have forced transparency.

    On behalf of the American flying public, thank you, Kansas City for delivering us from the old and into the new and improved!

    A fiasco that resulted in triumph. The people who use it need to pay for it. only 12% of KC residents use it so there is no reason for us to foot 100% of the bill. A remodel would have been on the tax payer's dime and I don't see how any KC resident could be okay with paying for yet another thing for Johnson County (i.e. Truman Sports Complex).

      I am a former KCMO resident..albeit from the Northland..so I have a bias for the airport, and I'm not paying taxes in KCMO...full disclosure. However, the only reason anyone nationwide even bothers to mention the fact that Kansas City is not entirely in Kansas is because of the Chiefs and Royals....they play quizzes and then learn..the MLB and NFL teams are NOT in Kansas. I imagine much of the traffic at MCI is JOCO..and why should they drive another 30 minutes across a state line?..when land and capital is available in JOCO to build a much more 'convenient' airport. Many in JOCO feel they are 'subsidizing' the MO side..not the other way around...this was the case 12 years ago when I left KCMO..do you think it has really changed?..I know downtown KCMO is more vibrant...

    I love how quick you can get out as a local, but would despise being on a layover. No restrooms or food besides a sad little cart past security. Changing terminals means out and back through TSA. It's 40+ years old and looks it.

    as someone who has a Priority Pass Membership and i also only fly Delta so i'd like a Delta Sky Club and a Priority Pass Lounge so i can relax before my travels.

    Just had a layover at KCI and after viewing this video it explains why flying into KCI is the worst airport I’ve ever flown into. The video literally explains why my experience was the worst I’ve ever encountered at any airport that I’ve ever flown into. I sure hope the citizens can get a better airport than what they currently have.

    get rid of all that security bullshit, and bam, problem solved, would take an afternoon and all issues become moot.

    I truly can't understand -- is this a new airport altogether? I keep reading SINGLE TERMINAL AIRPORT... Ok so what about the other two terminals, will they still be used?

    • @aheartforart1
      @aheartforart1 Год назад +2

      The new airport has been built in the area where terminal A was located. It's my understanding that once the new single terminal airport opens, the old terminal B and terminal C buildings will be torn down. So yes, a completely new airport building, but in roughly the same location as the original airport

    All this argument about 12% of residents using it. Wake up and see this is an investment! The new KCI is a long time coming. The current facility is out of date. The sports complex should have a roof as well. Nobody is seeing that the initial investment will pay bigger dividends. KCI is a relic and the future will be huge with this new single terminal. TWA wouldn't have left for STL had KCI gone a different way in 1972.I'm a KC resident and I voted 'Yes' in 2017. You're welcome.

      That's all very fine and well if you're a local. But what if you're on a TWA flight having crossed the Atlantic or Pacific and are connecting onwards in the US? Do you really think being stuck in a dinky terminal after such a long flight is a good idea?

    KCI terminals were billed as the best design, no long walks through gloomy terminals. Now we are going back to boxy gloomy terminals.

    Of course KCI will put out something good for them... They didn't even hire a Kansas City company to do it. It's as if this is our only option. Vote NO until they get that we prefer to remodel and make the current configuration amazing.

    Now the over budget new terminal will open this month. The new terminal looks like every other airport built in past 20 years. Boring design. Ridiculous Burns & Mac didn’t get contact. Everyone I know is still mad about that!

      The new terminal will open ahead of time and on budget. It is a vast improvement over the existing airport.
