Good 👍 point. But who mandates that you must have 3 square meals a day? I always hear Nigerians alluding to that mantra for 3 square meals a day. One good meal and possibly snacks and 🍓🍑 fruits for the rest of the day should be sufficient.

This is terrible .for Tinumbus government. Approving 90 billion for hajj and 5 billion for student loan is the height of irresponsibility. Which should come first. Pilgrimage is a personal thing and govt dies not need to have anything to do with it. . You remove subsidy and then subsidise pilgrimage. Imagine if he put 90 billion for student loan how far it will go to assist their education.

Considering that Nigeria is a secular state, there should be a provision in the constitution that prohibits anyone who assumes any leadership position in the country from performing any religious obligations like pilgrimages, while in office. If leaders do not go on pilgrimages, there will be no excuse for subsidizing anyone else. 90 billion naira subsidy for pilgrimage in a country where schools are dilapidated, kids are being turned into street beggars is a grossly misplaced priority. If Nigeria is not holy enough for any leader, then they probably do not deserve to be in office.

Year in Year Out, we keep making the same mistake as a country. It seem every successive continue progressing in error. How much subsidy is govt paying on health (essential drugs), agriculture for food security, transportation. But our leader can pay 90B Naira to sponsor tourists to visit another man's land boost their economy while you cannot access basic health and education back home. By the time you put Hajj and Jerusalem pilgrimage subsidies together you will be surprised. Well they can go to Mecca and Jerusalem and pray your poverty and ailment away. May be the Pool of Bethesda is still much there in Jerusalem. "To a thinking man Nigeria is tragedy but to a reasoning man Nigeria is comedy, so I reason".

APC/Channel television news anchor. I wonder what is the value of N90b for pilgrimage to Mecca has added to Nigeria. Government cannot provide funds for ten thousand startups in Nigeria? This money would have given to another ten thousand farmers Nigerians to produce food for this country. There're many things we could do for this country with N90b too numerous to mention. Shameful that corruption is acceptable way of life in Nigeria government, in fact the very essence of seeking political office in this country

With about 65,047 Nigerian pilgrims from both public and private sectors expected to perform the 2024 Hajj exercise. N430 Billion from Nigerian Pilgrims and N90 Billion from Federal Government. In total equivalent of $530 Million in 2024.
Yet Nigeria medical facilities are generally poorly equipped. Many medicines are unavailable, including medications for diabetes or asthma. Hospitals often expect immediate cash payment for health services. Yet emergency services are non-existent, and blood supply are unreliable and unsafe for transfusion. For serious medical problems, Nigerians are traveling to the United States, Europe, or India for treatment. We are all complicit in the current situation of our country.

When President Tinubu came to power, the debt burden was at 111%...that is if you apply 100% of federal revenue, you will need to borrow additional 11% just to service debt. So, in such a difficult condition, the president has no option than to remove fuel subsidy, introduce stamp tax, bank deposit tax, electricity tariff, just to generate revenue and prevent total collapse of the economy. Those steps have created hardship, but they are the right steps

While do people hide under religion to cause problems. Any responsible government should be ready to assist her citizens in dire need. The Tinubu administration assisted the Christians during the Christmas and New year and there was no cry from the muslims as noted by prof. akintola.
"Assuming that we remove the cost of the Christmas rice subsidy which was N57.8 billion, that of the Christmas free train and that of the Christmas 50% rebate on commercial buses, what, for crying out loud, would remain of the N90 billion hajj subsidy for which idle critics now want to bring down the sky? Wouldn’t Nigerian Muslims be asking for a balance payment?
“The criticism of Tinubu over the hajj subsidy policy is spiced with bad blood, garnished with toxic faith and served with tramadolised religiousity. It is short in objectivity but long in acrobatic religiousity.”
