Jillian, I actually broke my back squatting 280 and had surgery. I now only squat with 50 pounds, but I think I'm going to try front loading now thanks to your advice. I think it's safer for me. Thanks for the advice.

Could you do a similar video to this one for lunges? I don't have knee or back pain when I squat, but the moment I attempt to do a lunge, I end up with knee pain despite the fact that nothing else has ever caused me knee issues before, which leads me to think that I'm not doing something right!
I find it so hard to activate my ass while doing squats. Would u say learning to really squeeze before going down helps to activate using the Glutes more? I’ll literally take any advice you have. I am a man, but the same should apply!
Jock Marais ASMR I find it easier to squeeze on the way up! Like using my glutes to pull myself out of the squat by pushing my heels into the ground and really squeezing. I don’t squeeze on the way down!
@@jockmaraisasmr5700 squats are for legs more. But you need a band to activate your butt, wake it up and warm it up basically before squats or deadlifts or anything with weights where you squeeze. That's honestly how I've grown muscle or toned my lower back/top of butt. Working on all other sides is hard 😬 but keep going!
Claudia Rueda great thank you! I started doing heavy banded crab crawls and feel my Glutes being activated like never before. Do you suggest this as its stand alone workout or just go warm up your glutes before you do squats?
@@jockmaraisasmr5700 I think if you follow people on IG or RUclips, they'll do home workouts with bands so i do see that as a workout in itself as long as you do a few and other things. But definitely before each heavy lift so you remember to squeeze because you warmed them up already!

I like the butt in to square the hips but maybe add that your butt will disengage as you squat down an re-engage as you stand up. Drawing in the lower ab (below the belly button) slightly and keeping it tense or engaged the entire time might be something you want to add.
The reason you can't get proper depth isn't due to your ankle mobility, it's because you aren't opening your hips by pushing your knees out to stay in line with your feet. Just ask Dr. Kelly Starrett since you're such a fan and friend of his. ;)

Eat more. I’m willing to bet you restricted your caloric intake (how many calories you consume a day) first. 1. You can’t target fat loss. If you want to lose belly fat. Workout. Your overall body fat will go down. Eventually showing in your stomach. Workout as in strength train. Strength training indirectly burns body fat. Really well. So strength train. Not that bullshit you see IG influencers do. Actually lift. Like a man. Your muscles work the same as mine. Do barbells squats. Bench press, deadlift. The whole 9. Get a good workout in and then go home and eat good. 2. You need to eat. Believe it or not, you can eat more calories in a day and lose fat while gaining muscle. It’s called a caloric surplus or a caloric deficit. If you restrict how much you’re eating (as in not eating enough) and you go workout, your body is going to burn muscle and cling to the fat. It’s a fight or flight/survival mechanism your body has. That’s why you’ve only lost a couple lbs or have hit a wall and don’t feel like you’re getting results. Reverse lunges take the pressure off the knees. Also I find walking lunges while driving down with my heel also put less pressure on the knee as well.
