I cant believe this was 25 years ago. And it felt like this was just yesterday. I've been a Lakers fan all of my life. My first game I went to was in 1997 at the Forum in Inglewood CA . Kobe's first year in the NBA. The Memories RIP Kobe aka the black mamba.
1. Prime Shaq was a BEAST. He barely tapped Antoine Carr and about took his arm off, and Carr was a big strong dude. 2. People forget how good Glenn Rice was. 3. The Lakers had basically the same team that won the championship the next year but they were swept by the Spurs in the next round. Imagine how good they could've been in 99 with any coach other than Kurt Rambis.
The Spurs would've beaten them again in '00 if Duncan hadnt gotten injured. CWebb and Sheed were giving them the business and pushing them to deciding elimination games.
Great upload, as usual. These games just remind me how there was levels to team greatness. The Lakers passed the test against the vet Rockets, but even with all that talent the Spurs and Jazz still had the maturity and skill to overcome them. When a team got over the hump back in the day, you appreciated what they had to go through to get there.
Except they are not games these are highlights we need more full game uploads. The NBA is doing all it can to restructure The narrative of its history just like they did in the 80s suppressing everything that happened before then....
This game killed the Rockets. Had they won this game they probably have a better chance to win the series. But after this game the Lakers youth, speed and power was just too much for the old aging Rockets to handle. This game was the killer for Houston.
24:12 Brutal turnover by Pippen with 7 seconds left on the shot-clock. Even if they had runout the clock and missed, the Lakers would have gotten the ball with just 3 seconds left
13:00 What a move AND basket by Kobe against 2 players (Pippen including). He embarrassed them where it mattered most. Lol!!! Only a 20 year old Kobe can pulled it off.
What hurt Barkley was that he was out of shape. You could see it starting around the 1995 playoffs. He was still good even though he gained the weight. Especially during the 1997 playoffs. If he had gotten in shape, he would have won a championship. He was hurt a lot as well when he was out of shape. I believe he had 34 rebounds in games 3 or 4 in this series. That is phenomenal considering being out of shape, playing against prime Shap, and at his age. He was also hitting shots as well. If he would had dropped the weight, nobody could have stopped him.
24:12 Brutal turnover by Pippen with 7 seconds left on the shot-clock. Even if they had runout the clock and missed, the Lakers would have gotten the ball with just 3 seconds left. Instead, the Lakers got it with 8 seconds left
And LBJ fanboys who claim it was only because of him that Jordan got his 6 rings fail to acknowledge he didn't win any rings either once he no longer had MJ
@@annie20232 I still remember watching that game and couldn't believe how they just folded, and Pippen was unable to rally that team and regain their composure. Jordan wouldn't have let such a commanding lead like that disappear in a flash
He struggled because it takes yr to comeback from back injury. Also, offense was terrible & predictable as a guy who won championship Said. + some horrible calls like charge on Fox notice Ref RiggedBA ref makes appearance
Sadly games were rigged even at this time. 9:07 hakeem smiling at a shaq and kobe alley oop that came off an uncharacteristically bad pass from Scottie and a worse defensive coverage from him as well on the fast break.
Kobe still hadn't reached his prime. Still fun to watch him play before Phil Jackson arrived the following season. RIP Kobe Bryant.
I still cant believe the fact tht he is not with us anymore
Those classic NBA on NBC scorecards and graphics on screen were so magnificent!
The crowd was so into it back then , i missed these days, when players gave it all
The emotion, passion and competitiveness was unmatched compared to now
100% so true. This is a way better product.
An aging Hakeem dueling with a prime Shaq.
Lakers won this series
Hakeem is the GOAT C
@@jones0882 Ok Captain Obvious
@@annie20232 Just giving you a history lesson maybe you will learn something. Enjoy.
Fair fight tbh , when Shaq was a baby he faced prime Hakeem in his prime

Oh man, 99 Rockets are pure joy for me.
Old Hakeem vs Shaq in his prime.... hook it to my veins
If Hakeem, Charles and Scottie were at least five years younger they would win
If they were 5 years younger there's no way the Suns or Bulls would have gotten rid of Barkley and Pippin or Hakeem would have needed them 😂
@Riles3152 Hakeem is the GOAT C.... prime Hakeem obliterated young Shaq.... and prime Robinson and prime Pat.
Team chemistry is also important
Pippen was still playing at a high level, I would say if Barkley and Hakeem were five years younger then yes.
Fool shut up hakeem is not same age range as shaq they 10yrs apart lol so when shaq was prime hakeem was old
scottie chocked when they had the lead in the last minute
You rarely see non-star-players, especially young players like Fisher, remain with the same team for many many years like he did from 1996-2004
Shaq and Kobe should've won just as much rings as Jordan and Pippen
Egos got the best of them
The start of the Great Western Forum's last playoff run.
The last playoff to be held at the forum.

Long Live The 90s!
Scottie Pippen: First NBA Playoff in the Western Conference and outside Chicago Bulls
He didn't last long in Houston, he got traded to Portland.
Pippen without Jordan wasn’t ready for prime time he couldn’t get it done 😂😂😂😂
He was old
They should have beat the lakers with he was with Portland in 2000
That's why he is the Robin
@jplaya2023 he was 33 stop it
@@michaelcrump712 dont forget he was plagued by back injuries. 33 in 1999 is different than 33 now when guys play half the year
Man...Pippen kinda blew this one. This game was great! All out WAR! I miss pre 2010s playoff basketball.
Been a lakers fan since 1776 and Hakeem was so underrated
Dang 1776...you're probably older than America 😮
@@pr0phecy718 Back then, USA used to have more healthier lakes and celtics never existed there.
At the beginning of the game, empty playoff seats during the Shaq and Kobe Era seems insane to think of now
That has got to be the last year they played at the Great Western Forum.

The forum was a real home court advantage. Their new arena is awful
always loved the Forum
Why the gym is half empty for such an important play off game?

If he got into shape, he would still lose to Jordan in the Finals. So your logic doesn't make sense
@@annie20232 If Barkley had've got to Phoenix 3 years earlier he'd have 3 rings.
Strange how during this season they took off The Great Western Forum logo/lettering off of center court and the center sidelines?

Houston had a lot of great players on that team
The perfect jumper doesn't exis...5:25
Shaq wirh deflating ball aid 😆😆😆
do you have the game in full?
The 99 Rockets had somewhat of an ok idea with this roster. Let's take Olajuwan and add Barkley and Pippen except it's 1999 not 1993, shit.
Hakeem and chuck shouldve retired with clyde after the 97-98 season.
