Russia is not the cultural successor of Kievan Rus (although it is just Rus, as Soviet historians used to name it to justify their false theories). It stole the history to some extent of lithuanians (this is the real name of Belarusians) and ukrainians (who have long been called Ruthenians). The fact that they (Moscow) were part of Rus does not mean anything. They were only a swamp province for a long time and were in conflict with Kyiv. Then they came up with their ideas and cut it out.
