Rock Island ROCKET E8 Proto 2000

I acquired this Proto 2000 (I may have referred to it as a Proto 1000) Rock Island The Rocket E8 HO scale locomotive through Ebay for the incredible low price of $40 with free shipping. I had to wait over a week but was very excited when it arrived. It had no box, yet, was in like-new condition.
It runs so smooth and quietly, and the headlight consists of two white LEDs that alternate to give the impression of a MARS rotating headlight.
The flashing of the number boards is distracting to me but maybe I can install tiny LEDs behind the number boards to make them constant while allowing the headlight to do the MARS effect.
