In case anyone is worrying about the mixed dart frog tank: Mixing dart frogs is controversial and generally not something that's recommended to beginners, but Dendrobates auratus together with Phyllobates vittatus is definitely one of the safer mixes out there. This is for two main reasons that are really important: -They're so distantly related that there's no risk that they hybridize (as a general rule, you should never mix two different dart frog species of the same genus; if you only mix frogs from different genera you're safe on the hybrid front). -They're both group tolerant species that aren't really territorial (unlike frogs such as Dendrobates tinctorius and Oophaga pumilio, which aren't ideal for mixed tanks almost regardless of vivarium size), so with a vivarium as big as the junglearium, there shouldn't be any issues.
@@TheDarkDen Perfect, just wanted to mention it to any new viewers out there since it's very easy to go wrong when mixing dart frogs. The vittatus are really wonderful frogs and I hope you'll enjoy them. They're often shy in the beginning, but they usually get quite bold over time if you're around the enclosure a lot and make them associate you with food.
@@joelneedham4548 Healthy dart frogs are actually great swimmers, and I've not heard of a single confirmed case of a healthy dart frog drowning. However, sick frogs frequently go near the water feature when they're about to die, so when they die near/in the water, it looks like they've drowned. That's most likely where the myth that dart frogs are bad swimmers comes from. Water features have 2 major issues in dart frog tanks, which is why you should avoid them if you're a beginner or have small vivarium: - They waste a lot of room that the dart frogs can't utilize (since dart frogs won't really utilize them by "swimming in the open water" like some other frogs would). - There's a risk that the water saturates the substrate (which would be really bad, since dart frogs are sensitive to infections that can occur if they're kept on a wet, soggy substrate). However, the Junglearium is massive, so it's no big deal that the water feature takes up a small portion of it, and water saturating the substrate is really occurs if you've done something wrong (by not properly "isolating" the water feature from the substrate).
I dont know about everybody else but I think it would be cool if you included a bit of the Croatian language all I ask is please use subtitles lol I only speak English so sometimes I forget there's thousands of other languages out there so it's cool to hear what other native languages sound like

Belated Merry Christmas Petko! I really enjoy your videos. I think it would be wonderful if you shared more about your language and culture in your future videos😊.
Ah, yes desmoxytes planata, yeah they are tiny but awesome looking, i used to have a small colony but i did not manage to make them thrive so unfortunatley i lost them, maybe i should try putting some in my new big rainforest enclosure when its done
Super fun to see the expo in Europe! Its quite similar to the expos here in Canada. Though it takes us like 5 hours to setup our booth the day before and 3h the day of xD
Petko you need to come to Denmark in may. We have a pretty big exo show here! Lots off animals! But, the money system is abit tricky.. we dont really use cash here. So you must atleast have a credit card system with you.
If you get a roll of shrink wrap, you can wrap your enclosures on the cart and itll be easier to push it around without worrying about things falling off
For your safety bro, get some metal screen or something for the car when going with a load like that. My mom one that coulb be taken out and put in as needed. Only takes one emergency brake for you to have enclosures through your head.
Merry Christmas, great video. I loved your trantular Tshirt you wore at the expo. Looking forward to see whats in store for 2024, maybe a visit to a UK invert expo? 🤔🤣❤👏🏼👍
Fun fact about desmoxytes planata is that they actually produce hydrogen cyanide wich is one of the most poisonous things in the world, but they produce such small amounts that it doesent affect humans, however just to be sure i always washed my hands after toutching them
Petko if i recall from past footage that on the Junglearium glass, you have what looks like two, one inch finger holes (one on each panel)? If there is two small hole you may want to get some caps to put in them, as now you have Morning geckos (surface climbers) that can just go through them.
@@TheDarkDen 👍, you will have to get in the routine of checking the glass runners (on the inner panel), especially the top one (I'm sure checking the bottom one is instinct), as the Mourning geckos may hide out in them.
For anyone that needs to change their car light, never touch the actual bulb! Human oil makes the bulb burn out really fast, or explode. The bulb will last much longer if you don't touch the glass. Great video as always!
The frogs are so damn pretty! Is it just poisonous ones you handle with gloves? Good frog handling? The little and I, catch, name, (sometimes marry) release bullfrogs.
Generally it's advised to keep handling of Amphibians to a minimum, only when needed. The natural salts, oils on are hands and the chemical products humans use aren't good for them, it's typically advised to use gloves (powder free), that are wet with chlorine free water. For a quick transfer etc, you can if need be fully wash your hands in just water (chlorine free) the reduced the salt etc from your hands but gloves are the better way, most Amphibians breathe through there lungs and skin, some just through there skin, as to why there skin is to be kept moist to absorb oxygen.
Great you're in Hungary, that's where I'm from originally... such a cool event I wondered will the lizards not eat up the centipedes in the junglearium?
Hey Petko! Merry Christmas! Just a question…because you are starting a new “world” without outside life, what are all these new animals going to eat if there aren’t other insects or food for them to eat? Without a complete eco system, will you need to add food for the new animals to support them till enough animals are sustaining for all?
The millipedes that are wild where I am have cyanide in them! They are round millipedes with yellow dots along their sides. Apparently they have enough cyanide in them to kill 4 grown men. Idk though.
Hi baz I think 2 shorter ones a week and an hr long one every so often sometimes with 3 young kids I don't get to sit down for an hr lol, great content tho
I'm pretty sure he's not planning on having any. Having a vivarium where vertebrates are being eaten alive would violate the animal protection laws in many European countries (not sure about Croatia, but here in Sweden it'd be strictly illegal). It's difficult to draw a line between roaches (which are generally fed live to various animals, partially because you really can't feed with dead insects in most cases) and live rodents (which I think everybody would be upset to see being fed live to an animal unless there is absolutely no other choice), but I think vertebrates is a good place to draw the line and the Swedish legislation agrees (any vertebrate feeder animals must be humanely euthanized before being fed to whatever animal is going to eat it to avoid unnecessary suffering). Ethical and legal issues aside, a vivarium where bigger vertebrates are preying on each other in a confined space would most likely also not work very well. This is because most vertebrates have a too slow life cycle and the populations would be way too small. This makes it really difficult to create a stable ecosystem of that sort, where the animals that are being eaten are bigger than springtails and isopods. The junglearium is still significantly smaller than nature, and has a much smaller diversity of bigger animals along with extremely small populations, which makes things complicated and increases the risk of extermination of one species. I suppose the best way to get rid of the geckos is to put in a bottle trap with some roaches overnight (google Fish Bottle Trap) to catch a few and sell at the next Expo. It's an extremely effective way of catching small geckos, and mourning geckos are very popular. (Edit, saw now that he commented that he'll do this)
Oh man, i Love L. lugubris, they are such cute Geckos :) but to be honest, i dont think it is a realy good idea to put them in the junglearium 😅 in around one year you will have so many of them. They will be every where 🙈 and when they escape, they will lay eggs everywhere in your cellar 😅 I think a bunch of (i dont know the english Name atm.) himmelsblauer Taggecko (the German Name, transalted it is skyblue daygecko) would be awesome :) Edit: i mean Lygodactylus williamsi :) such a beautiful gecko and they would fit very well in the junglearium :)
Exactly. Some of the babies WILL escape and breed in the basement and eventually in the entire house. I even doubt that the Junglearium is secure enough to keep the adults in.
