Bravo maestro. Not so many tenors have the stamina to sing this aria so slow and powerful. He is certainly not too dramatic for the part. All too neglected. Everyone ought to have respect for this brilliant singer.
Piu' sfumato Pavarotti, Giacomini piu" intenso. Peccato che non abbia avuto la pubblicita' televisiva di Pavarotti di cui era superiore come timbrica espressiva.
If your larynx is naturally low you may not need to be told! every student is different. In singing however the larynx should be lowered. However even melocchi singers (Del monaco, Giacomini and all) did not forcibly lower it. Lowering the larynx enlarges the pharynx giving you an 'Open throat'
Giacomini is not a bass! He is a classical "caruso" (or Melocchi low larynx- full respiration) spinto tenor as he really should be. A tenor woth a powerfull voice of a man, singing incredeble high notes!
Hehe of course there is! Read what Maestro Corelli says about it on his famouse interview about a vocal techniqe. About Giacominni - Listen to his long interview here on the RUclips... You can also watch some video tecords of them, and clearly see the possition of the larinx. That's tha basis of their thechnoqe.
Dear Songsofscarlet - I've never told you about forcing the larinx to go down. But If you say that it's going down when you "open" your throat, I say the same. When it go down- the throut become opened... :) Not by forsing it!!! By get use to control it's possition. you can ask good flut or oboy players about it.
there is no lowering of the larynx with giacomini... but yes he is incredible! BTW there's no lowering of the larynx with Corelli and Del Monaco either... it's all BS
There is no denying that Giacomini has a formidable instrument, but to my ears his massive voice is tragically misapplied here. This role requires tenderness, vulnerability, and plaintive ardor, but I don't hear any of those qualities in this scene. Maybe my own pre-conceptions are at work. Perhaps I am just not accustomed to hearing a dramatic tenor in this role. By the same token, I don't enjoy Carreras trying to sing "Niun mi Tema" (Otello), either.
No it's not. Are you a singer yourself? Cause if yes and if you sing like that- you know the feeling. And if not - find some videos when u can see the neck, and you will see a stable (not moving during the vibrato) and low larynx position. When the larynx is low - the throat is open and has more space. It's totally close when you swallow (and then you can feel it going totally up).
Radames, as I have great respect for your love of opera, I am going to have to disagree with you on this one. I am fully aware of how Corelli et al sang, as I studied with a teacher who lived with Del Monaco for 6 yrs and I am currently studying with a teacher who studied with Corelli for many years. In no way have I ever been told to lower my larynx. Yes the larynx is in a lower place, but it happens naturally when your glottal space is open. You do not forcefully lower the larynx.

What a night to remember for opera! Two legends of singing singing together!
Magnifico!!!!!! que bueno es Giacomini!!!!BRAVOOOOO!!!!!!
Transposed up or transposed down he's still wonderful. Thanks!
OMG!!! Thanks for posting this!!!! This is a phrasing masterclass!!!! As always with Giacomini!!!!
Grande Maestro!
I've been looking this one for so long a time! Thank you for this one..
Giacomini's voice was a volcanic force of nature, but maybe a *tad* large for Rodolfo?
Transposed as it maybe, it suited his voice and came out so powerful..
I wish there are any tenors with a "tad bit " to big for opera. Like what Tabeldi said, we have "mosquitos " for opera these days.
Piu' sfumato Pavarotti, Giacomini piu" intenso. Peccato che non abbia avuto la pubblicita' televisiva di Pavarotti di cui era superiore come timbrica espressiva.
Io c'ero!

Very well-sung by both Giacomini and Caballe (well matched in terms of vocal weight); unfortunately, the picture is pitch black!!!!
It's not transposed. The note at the end is 523hz, High C.
jamesgatward1985 No, it’s actually high B

@AlexanderNievsky
Could you tell me, oh wise one, what this WORNG technique is?
I never knew that Otello ever lived in Paris!
Yes, this is not the right sound for Rodolfo. But it is thrilling nonetheless.
@RADAMES1983 The easiest way to do it is to give all vowels the color of italian U (OO)

¿?
A parte Caruso e pochi altri!!!
