Andy Martin is a Beast on Guitar. Such a well-rounded guitar player. He plays licks in Any Style . . . effortlessly. I sometimes watch his videos, just to see his technique and completely Forget about what the pedal can do.
That mid-band EQ is a huge selling point for me. Not enough drive pedals have a strong EQ section like that - the mids are the most important frequency range of the guitar! Thanks Andy, fucking amazing playing as always. Think you sold me on this one.
Another home run of a demo. Clear, comprehensive, and succinct. And even if you don't care about the product, Andy's playing is a joy to listen to. (Imagine that - a musical gear demo where the demonstrator plays /real music/ !)
By the way, what's the signal path? Can't tell if it's plugged to an amp (in which case, which amp?), to an amp fx loop return (again, which amp?), or through a cab sim to a digital platform
Hey Andy, is there any particular reason why you use the Hagstrom for down-tuned riffs, as opposed to a Les Paul (or any other guitar I guess)? Is there a certain something like the scale length, or is it just for the sake of convenience?
Good question, it's both! The Hag is 25.5" so that gives more tension for C# tuning. Tuning lower changes the intonation and neck's tension on a guitar, so I leave it setup that way to save me the trouble. Thanks! Andy
andy-would this pedal work well for a bass guitar? tried almost 40 overdrive/distortion pedals this week at local shops, only one close to what im looking for is empress effects heavy. i want to try this and the darkglass b7k.
Kamrin Kildahl I think you should get it tweaked. Most caps and/or resistors from many filters will have to be swapped for other values. It may be hard to get someone to mod it since it looks like a JFET emulator and most of those are double sided SMD boards (hard to a.trace the circuit and b.swap components). But it definitely can be done (at a price), if needed.
Great pedal, had mine for a couple weeks now. A for sure keeper amidst the constant coming and going of pedals. Great EQ range, versatility. I like how they split the gain structure using the resonance which is supposed to add the punch of a 4x12 low end to the dist. And it does respond and feel very amp like. My only peeve is that the parametric EQ could use a lot more labeling of frequencies to know where you really are, we are all not twist by ear players which is very limited in scope. But a highly recommended status from me. I really have to look into some more Duncan pedals.
Not sure if you have an rta but if you did you could figure it out pretty easily and mark it by running pink noise through the pedal and watching the rta readout. I may try that
Andy is awesome. And seems like a good dude and gentlemen. Good overall style, can play many different genres. Oh ya I have this pedal too and it can do it all and then some
Hallo Andy, maybe it should be a bit better to show not only the best "beautiful" settings according to You, but people like me would appreciate to hear the maximum gain. Sometimes is good to hear not only the best setting, but the limits of the effect. But, I still like your demonstrations, they are absolutely true - thank You for great show.
I thought it was pretty steep at first too, but this pedal can be used as a stand alone PreAmp to do high quality recording without and amp. You can do so much with this thing and that's not even touching what the pedal can do with different gain stages.
It sounds like a tube, mate. Don't expect companies selling these cutting their profits in your advantage. Most boutique builders who could clone it wouldn't cut their profit either so you would be very lucky to find one cool guy to clone this and reduce the cost of the pedal for you. Plus, it's Seymour Duncan. You kinda pay the brand
Andy should go into the rock and roll hall of fame he should have the big speech and everything and then have an awesome jam with a band/players of he’s choosing then he’ll be immortal #inductAndy
I agree that on it's own it does not make much difference. But a higher voltage (e.g. 18v instead of the usual 9v) does make a difference when you wanna stack another overdrive or boost before the pedal.
Yeah maybe you're right there, but it would also depend on the clipping characteristics and gain levels of both individual pedals (It can get pretty messy). Not meaning to pick oin the this SD pedal, a lot of pedals are in the same boat. Then you have Radial gear which is annoyingly at 15V Pos tip??? WTF (Love most of my Radial gear though.)
I love your reviews in general but I don't feel that this one does the Palladium justice, in particular Napalm Death's "Breed to Breathe" at the beginning, I've never heard it sound so weak.
He's using the word "tight" very loosely, see what I did there? Haha! It's the most untight "high gain" pedal I've used recently. If you're looking for high gain, a la Terror or Walls of Jericho, this isn't the pedal for you. If you play classic rock, it's perfect.
@@jojoyear I've already reviewed it on my channel, it's far from being my favorite. It has as much gain as a Gorilla amplifier from 1985. Odd because it has all the elements found on the Peavey 5150 but lacks in everything. Unimpressed.
Y'all are bitches if you gotta be asking permission from your wife wtf....lol Exactly like the top comment said, sounds like what a child says. A man does what he wants and that's that, no need for permission.
HAHA, Andy playing Napalm Death wih only his fingers, this guy never ceases to astonish me.
name of the song?
trey azagathooth Breed to Breathe from the Inside The Torn Apart album.
and here's me thinking he was a Guilty Gear fan :>

Yeah dude is a monster player

How about DOD Boneshaker?
Wouldn't know, first I heard of it!
Another home run of a demo. Clear, comprehensive, and succinct. And even if you don't care about the product, Andy's playing is a joy to listen to. (Imagine that - a musical gear demo where the demonstrator plays /real music/ !)
Andy, you inspire me to learn the guitar without using a pick. Thank you so much for that.
You can totally see when Andy actually digs a pedal. This one is a monster!
Nice pedal for stacking. A Tube screamer and/or overdrive and there's a lot of options for shaping individual tone.
Loved how you used a heavy riff to showcase this pedal. Most reviews on high gain equipment won't do that.
By the way, what's the signal path? Can't tell if it's plugged to an amp (in which case, which amp?), to an amp fx loop return (again, which amp?), or through a cab sim to a digital platform
Killer playing as always, amazing pedal and demo as always!
Awesome, I've been waiting for you to review this one!
Never mind gain, I want the effects pedal that makes it look like your head and hands are floating in space
lol
That's called LSD
Jay Foster Guitar also DMT and salvia divinorum:*
Grab yourself a Ghost Delay from m Death By Audio,
and if you have at least 800 bucks lying around get yourself an re 201 space echo
andys head is floating!
Killin it with the Napalm Death!!!

Andy
sounds really good
is there a list of all the songs Andy has demoed ?
Andy... You Rock! And this pedal Rocks!
BREED TO BREATHE!!
ARE WE FREE TO FEEEEEEEEL
how do i play that? 0:35 it sounds like instrumental progressive rock stuff
Andy! Please upload backing track!!!!!!
Is it just me or does it sometimes get in that area of a little hard fuzz sounds?
Because aw I love that

This guy is amazing.
Whoa, this actually sounds great
is this one of those marshall in a box pedal ? a plexi to be specific ?
Sounds more like a VTM than a 5150 to me, but either way the thing sounds good. Helps a lot when the guitar player can play also
Anyone know what song is in the background around 2min mark

what's the song at 2:40?

Appreciate you saying that! I try to step out of my comfort zone when choosing genres, this was my first ever attempt at Napalm Death :)
-Andy
You are a guitar god.

Can this be used in harmony with a distortion pedal such as the Wampler Pinnacle ?
O-M-G Napalm Death ftw! Breed to Breathe!!!
Kelly Jackson Napalm!
Damn, i'll teach my children to play music to have G.A.S so they don't have money for drugs...
wow it sounds pretty darn good to me
Is this going through an amp or just through the Palladium?
Anyone know the name of the song that Andy plays in the opening, the first riff sounds so much like Venom's theme from guilty gear X.
Breed to breath by Napalm Death
Reverb dude?
Sounds beast!!
Is this An analog pedal?
Sounds great
Song ?
I think I remember Robben Ford mentioning that he really liked this pedal? A prototype at least.
I saw that too haha
I like it best with lower gain.
$300??? whats going on with pedal prices?
I thought it was pretty steep at first too, but this pedal can be used as a stand alone PreAmp to do high quality recording without and amp. You can do so much with this thing and that's not even touching what the pedal can do with different gain stages.

Nice riffage as always
my dream distortion 😭😭😭
Andy plays Napalm Death \m/
This pedal is touted as being a preamp so I wonder why they never included an fx loop.
Hmmmm. They look and sound suspiciously like the Goosoniqueworx 7thvn and Kult Pedals to me.
I worship Andy.
Andy should go into the rock and roll hall of fame he should have the big speech and everything and then have an awesome jam with a band/players of he’s choosing then he’ll be immortal #inductAndy
IT'S A FLOATING HEAD! :D
and floating right hand too
This is the only pedal I own that sounds like crap through my amp. For all its features, it sounds like an overglorified farty tubescreamer.
BREED TO BREATH!!
I feel like such a pleb, not being able to pick with just my fingertips like that.
Yeah but does it DJENT?
9-18v does very little in a pedal to improve the sound. Bring Back full voltage Preamps.
I agree that on it's own it does not make much difference. But a higher voltage (e.g. 18v instead of the usual 9v) does make a difference when you wanna stack another overdrive or boost before the pedal.

Napalm death? Haha sounds awesome!
Why do the call it resonance when it is actually lower order harmonic? They could call it Low Harm.
this thing has at least 4 more knobs than any amp i own...
That's the point
verdade.
I love your reviews in general but I don't feel that this one does the Palladium justice, in particular Napalm Death's "Breed to Breathe" at the beginning, I've never heard it sound so weak.
That song has Jesus Christ Pose facets in it.
Sounds a LOT like a Peavey VTM which is what Kim Thayil used
He's using the word "tight" very loosely, see what I did there? Haha! It's the most untight "high gain" pedal I've used recently. If you're looking for high gain, a la Terror or Walls of Jericho, this isn't the pedal for you. If you play classic rock, it's perfect.
Smh... He's playing a strat and using his neck pickup. It would already sound muddy on a clean channel...
@@jojoyear I've already reviewed it on my channel, it's far from being my favorite. It has as much gain as a Gorilla amplifier from 1985. Odd because it has all the elements found on the Peavey 5150 but lacks in everything. Unimpressed.
Oh crap I've got to talk to my wife..honey, you know? how I've been doin stuff, and
sounds like what a child says
Somehow we get married unknowingly knowing what's ahead for us. Regarding buying gear. It causes so many issues. 😢
I think I'll just spend all my dough on gear before i get married then.. :D
Y'all are bitches if you gotta be asking permission from your wife wtf....lol
Exactly like the top comment said, sounds like what a child says. A man does what he wants and that's that, no need for permission.
forgodsake andy use a pick! your good but most of us use picks and we want to heard the pedal and guitar strummed with a pick!
