Im 24yrs old and wasted a lot a lot of time with my almost a quarter century on earth, but shit like this is extremely helpful AND ITS FREE. Its baffling content like this isnt actually number one on platforms like this. Thank you 🙏
1:24 An easier way to understand is like this: So on a basket are 3 fruits, an apple(A), banana(B), and mango(M) Now toss all of it into 3 Holes named accordingly Now there are about 6 arrangements in which the fruits are dropped 1: ABM 2: AMB 3: BMA 4: BAM 5: MBA 6: MAB
Entropy is also considered an energy, but how? Imagine if there were more ‘pieces’ that could be scattered and randomized, of course there will be more possibilities for arrangements, and the more possibilities the higher the entropy energy.
soooo... I suppose there is a mathematical formula for these possible arrangements (factorial? 3!=6)). A box of gas then has x number of molecules (fruits) arrangeable in... y numbers of the container's Planck-volumes (holes)???
Indeed the most misunderstood physics concepts there are. Had to stop after couple of minutes already as it is often misunderstood that the second law of thermodynamics is a law. It is more like a prediction, which is at least referred afterwards, but it does not state that the entropy will always increase. There is no law that prevents shattered sand castle being reformed by itself as a castle. It is just so unprobabilistic that it will most likely never happen.
Concepts and properties are mental constructs, they don't really exist outside of human culture and thus they can't cause anything. Enthropy, among others, is just a mental shortcut facilitating de facto engineering/applied exploitation of the great outside by the humans.
On the other hand, poop is a highly concentrated and organized and bio-available fertilizer for at least a few plant forms, a food for various animals. One could argue that the chaos of poop is used to enhance more organized life forms. So this gets really crazy really fast. I personally think that Entrop IS poop. It exists in closed systems, which don't exist in the real world, and in the absence of gravity, which does exist in the real world.
I don’t understand the randomness concept as wind pushing sand is not random. There is not more ways to separate the sand from the castle than there are for the sand to get blown away by that exact gust of wind. How is scattered sand more random to anything except the person seeing a castle that is really just a pile of sand. I can never get past this.
You are close! There is no randomness! Fate is your culprit my good man. There is factually nothing else that would scatter the sand, it was always to be scattered, time is not confused by anything or anyone.
The fundamental flaw in entropic theory gets heated with the second law, which here (and generally elsewhere) is defined as taking place in an isolated system. Since every single example immediately illustrates its point with systems which are clearly not isolated, a person is forced to ask if isolated systems exist at all. They certainly exist in thought problems and various hypotheticals. Where else? Perhaps the entire Universe is a closed system. But that's another chicken and egg problem. I also glean bits and pieces that the First law references a closed system. It is extremely difficult to find initial quotations of either the First or Second Law. Instead, Google pushes us into the most modern stream -lined and dumbed down versions. So I have to proceed from bits and pieces of my memory. What I remember is that systems TEND towards greater entropy. When did TEND become unquestionable and totally predictable movement? Words mean things. I tend to lose at racquetball. Does that mean I lose every game? Obviously, it does not. The biggest fly in the ointment of increasing entropy is gravity itself, which takes big bang soup and forms it into incredibly complex stars, galaxies, etc. Then you have ocean goop which forms itself into spectacular life forms. In both of these cases, the entropy protagonists will insist that energy was expended in an inefficient fashion and that the imaginary closed system experiences greater heat loss / disorder / blah blah overall, on the average, etc. Since the First Law tells us that heat is NOT lost, the argument quickly morphs back into the idea that information, or order, or your neighbor's lawn, has become more chaotic. If the entropy folks could say that their principles are flawless in the absence of gravity, I might actually listen better. Einstein himself used similar language in introducing relativity. By refusing to account for or even acknowledge gravity, the entropists are in the same position as the athlete who always has an excuse for losing, who can't admit that perfect game conditions never actually exist. Entropy, as a concept, is marvelous when analyzing engines and single ended chemical processes. After that, it is just babble, which functions with self-fulfilling definitions and circular reasoning. Picture this: The atheist who traces the fusion processes of the sun all the way through the birth of a healthy human baby. The heat price is provably enormous. I am not sure how you measure heat wasted. But who can argue that there was a decrease in organization when you started with some ignorant elements, even giant numbers of them, and wound up with a brain? I guess if the baby grows up to be a physicist, I would grant the premise. I might even concede the argument.
Everything mentioned in this video can be intuitively understood after one psychedelic trip.. you might not have the words for it but you will still grasp of these concepts lol just saying..
Oh, you make entropy seem all mystic. It's simple. Let's say there is a 1 in 10 chance that your number will come up in a game. Because probability is what it is, every single time it's 1 in 10. That's the gambler's fallacy to think that your odds increase over time. They will be 1 in 10 for eternity. Okay, so let's just so happen to say that you hit your number. Great! The problem is if you try to play the game again the chances of you hitting your number is still 1 in 10. That's all entropy boils down to. Only in the case of molecules you have orders of magnitudes more "numbers". They are called microstates, but let's just abstract them as numbers to fit our game. So your chance for a favored configuration has just decreased by magnitudes just by the simple fact that there are more choices. THAT's what entropy comes down to. Unless you put work back into the system to put it back into an ordered state the chances of it spontaneously rearranging are essentially zero. That's why eggs don't unbreak. The passage of time as we experience it is due to those state changes. We experience it as a single direction because the state never changes back, and our brains are difference engines essentially. We see a constant evolution of random states and we experience time as a result. What our brains show us is nothing like reality. Just like the Matrix, our brains hide, or at the very least, abstract reality for us.
