One thing I like about Jinjer is you never know what to expect. They have their own sound, but they can express their message in so many different ways. Jinjer plays in and out of the box.
You are correct about the message. As people have already mentioned the Green Serpent is an Eastern European metaphor for alcoholism. Tatiana has posted about her sobriety as well as giving interviews about it. I think you would really like Tatiana's latest collaboration with Spiritbox on the performance of "Circle with Me". Fun reaction as always
It's even more crazy to know that she, along with Roman, Vlad, and Eugene are some of the kindest down to earth people you could ever meet. Met them a few times
You're right. In the slavic culture, the green serpent represents alcoholism. Tatiana, the vocalist, has been sober for 2 years.
What a wonderful track! Jinjer is such an intentional band.
By the way, you're right, "Pisces" is about the light & dark of the soul while "Green Serpent" is about the light and dark of addiction.
Not every Jinjer song is so easy to split up this way! Often the harsh vocals are used to express outrage, anger or danger.
Sometimes it's just part of the way the song needs to fit the music.
I wasn't into growls until I heard Opeth way back. I loved the music more than the vocals to start, then the vocals really grew on me, and I love songs with contrast. Think of it like a flow switch in rap - it keeps me interested. Taiti is one of the best, and the musicianship is amazing.
Nice reaction, you need to check them out live Perennial live from Wacken 2019 is the next step.
lol Green Serpent is metaphorically referred to alcohol in russian. Bitten by green serpent in slavic tradition is symbolic of alcoholism and the depths of intoxication/addiction.....as for the song, the opeth outro is cool. Middle LOG breakdown is cool. Also kinda sounds like an angular proggy album cut on first listen, but quickly turns out to be a banger.....also tati looks hot here 😂😂

You are so cute and funny ❤
My introduction to growls was the greatest vocalist from UK, Peter Hammill, eg. his performance of Disengage on Robert Fripp's album Exposure from 1979, and of course Mike Patton's vocal performances on Faith No More's 1992 album Angel Dust eg the track Malpractice. The artistic use of this old technique of throat singing in rock and metal is obvious, but the topics of vintage death and black metal were too ridiculous back then in the 80'ies during the broader emergence of harsh (male) vocals to be sung other than harsh. Fast forward, music made huge development based on what these old heroes have contributed. Even on Opeth's early records there are absurd lyrics about demons, which were just ridiculous if these were sung with cleans.
Your take on the artistic choice is good. However, do next Jinjer Perennial live at Wacken open air 2019. And have a look at the lyrics. Some joyous and hopeful lines are sung by Tatiana with harsh vocals.
