OMG!! This is one of my very first tarot decks. I bought it from Llewellyn and took the time to mod and try to connect with this deck. I am completely in love, love with the artwork and way back when reached out to Shephanie to see if she would ever make this deck in an increased size because I struggled so, so much with the artwork because of the detail and it being such a small card. I did know about the Czech version but kept holding out hope for a larger Llewellyn version like at an anniversary or something, but it just has not happened. This video inspired me to suck it up and buy the larger version with the Czech wording. (Thank you for the link) Maybe this will inspire me to finally use the deck instead of it sitting on my shelf for more years to come. Thank you as always Lisa for your energy. HUGS! I wanted to love the mass market deck so bad, but when I figured I lost some detail due to the images being too small, it was a bit heart-breaking. I love how dreamy and ethereal Shadowscapes is, but always wanted a bigger version of it. This is ideal, and I didn’t know it existed! I’ll definitely have to trim the borders (and I don’t mind losing the gilded edges), but I can finally use Shadowscapes more regularly now thanks to your video! Woohoo!

Aw! Sorry about the confusion.... this Czech version is newer and better cardstock wise but it did take some effort to get to the final end result for sure! It is such a beautiful deck!
This is the first tarot deck I chose for myself and I spent a lot of time bounding with it. I love the artwork but was always disappointed by the size. I am definitely getting this Czech version. I do not mind the other language as I know this deck inside out but I love what you did with it. Borderless really brings out the art.
I am tempted to get this version... especially now that it's available again. I actually do like the Czech words on them though (I kinda like decks in different languages), so I probably wouldn't trim them, but I love how your mod turned out!
This deck shows up constantly for very cheap on Vinted and other czech reseller sites! The shipping has to be discussed with the seller of course, but I saw like 5 of them the other day. Personally snagged one of my own as it is a deep deck full of symbolism which I adore (I have such a dislike for minimalist decks that ill never get over)

Thanks for sharing this. I was vaguely aware of an alternative version of the Shadowscapes, although I've never looked into it despite being curious about the differences. I really like the guilding and appreciate the bigger card stock to display all of those elegant details.
Honestly llewellyn need to just get their shit together. I think the shadowscapes was their last actually significant release (for me at least), and they did stephanie dirty. Look at what blueangel did with dreams of gaia. I feel like llewellyn should invest less in obnoxious big boxes and super luxe guidebooks and put more money towards the tool we actually use (which is the cards). But that’s just my opinion of course. I’d love a huge shadowscapes on that blueangel cardstock, borderless… ugh
That's fair. Though I've also loved more recent releases from them. I don't mind their cardstock a lot of the time but Shadowscapes is much thinner/paperier(sp?) than the other Llewellyn decks I own.
@@Lisa_Papez oh definitely, there have been interesting releases. It’s just that, when I first saw the shadowscapes, I remember being completely floored thinking: THIS is what tarot can also be. And yeah, I don’t mind most of their cardstock either.
Shadowscape seems like its been on my wishlist forever and not really sure why I never got it. Twice today its gotten love in my socials. maybe I need to add it in my collection.

Thanks for sharing! I definitely wouldn’t trim. The margins are small and not distracting. I’d add hints in black or gold to the bottom corners as you suggested. Normally I don’t like gilding but I don’t mind it on this deck.

I went ahead and bought the Czech version even before I finished watching the video, and can't wait to trim it and use it! I'll probably trim my Llewellyn version as well, since I have two copies - I bought one direct from Stephanie in order to get the Happy Squirrel card and a hand-drawn sketch, because I'm that big a fan 😊 BTW, for anyone who has a copy without the big guidebook, the Shadowscapes app by Fool's Dog includes the full guidebook, as well as being a great way to zoom in on the cards (it's especially good on an iPad!). It's only a few dollars, so well worth the investment if you love this deck.
I have had the Czech version for sometime, ultimately I left it as is. I appreciate you sharing the mod though. One never knows if one will change their mind down the road.

I am bit stunned. I purchased the original deck purposely with the large guidebook because it was Barbara Moore. I had just finished working with Hidden Realm and this deck seemed "double tiny" compared to Hidden Realm! So I put it away for a bit. Only deck I have ever inked the edges (silver and it really looks nice). I want to dive into the book. I do LOVE the pastel (purple) colors & silver. Watching this - I don't think the artwork has increased enough for me. Trimming the original did seem to help. This is a case of "I want to love this deck" & I do - but it just isn't happening. Maybe after I read the book I will become more attached ?? 😔
Shadowscapes is one of my favourite decks of all time. I do wish it was a little bigger and the gold gilding is a bonus, but I think the Czech on it would distract me.
What now? This deck made me use a magnifying lens when I was studying it .. I loved looking at all the details in it .. and I also have the first version. I think a bigger sized deck is lovely. It might even be closer to a tarot size. I think, however, that I will keep using the magnifying lens because it’s not a deck I use often

If anyone has that book can you tell me if it has the same info as the big guidebook we get with the english version deck? I like the bigger cards but never felt I had to get the Czech one because I have the french version (the cards are the same size as the english one) and the book is a big book in color so I can see the image in the book ! I was thinking that the best case would be bigger cards and color book ! Thanks for showing !
This is tempting... I use the app on my tablet to see a bigger version of the cards. But this edition is tempting. It's one of the few Tarot decks that I want in a bigger version and definitely borderless. If it was made like the Phantasma Tarot with a smaller title section, I think it would be nearly perfect. This is super tempting though...
Amazing deck, just ordered it myself. But why trim them both?! Oh, I hurt when I see them trimmed, plus the writing on them which doesn't look that good with the artwork...so sorry for trimming. Im gonna edge them but keep them in full.

I think I am going to buy that. I’ll stick with the Czech, because it’s close enough to Russian that I can figure out the numbers, and I figure I’ll learn the suit names quickly enough. (I was close to fluent in Russian once, and I can still count to twenty just fine).

I don't know, when you held the cards of the two versions next to each other, it seemed to me that the actual art (like the character on the picture for example) looks the same size on both as if your old version had cropped the background. It might be distorted by viewing in the camera but still. Pity I can't write pronunciation signs, it was cute to hear you trying to say the Czech words :). But you got "královna" pretty right :). Your surname actually always reminds me of czech word "papež" (the Pope) especially the way you say it, I'd expect the word to be read differently in english (again can't write those pronunciation signs so can't illustrate what I mean). I think you should definitely put some marks on the minors so you don't need to think out which card it is, all pictures really aren't that clear (like with the nine of pentacles). The guidebook is the same as yours only smaller to fit in the box. When you were making some video reading with these cards and I saw the big guidebook you pulled out I was like - omg, so big and we have just such a small one, but when you were reading the meaning of the card from the guidebook I was watching it in my and the text was the same. Ah, ok, I started writing before the end of watching and I see now you trimmed it and put signs for cards there. :D

I had to add marks on my trimmed cards because if I didn't use them for a while I kept confusing them.
