The rise of the dual-cab ute in this country really is a phenomenon. My neighbours in the inner-city suburbs are both high school teachers that never do any kind of DIY'ing or tradework yet recently bought a Mazda BT-50. For the past year, they've never used it to tow anything and nothing has ever been put in the tray bed. Interesting buyer's decision.
I call it a free ticket to be a shit driver cause when you drive something as big as a work ute, I gurantee the guy in the yaris is gonna have more of an insurance claim than yours
As a P plater Hilux driver, my 1998 Hilux has turned into my highschools Suzuki swift and Holden Barina recovery vehicle. Every time it rains it gets boggier but yet the school refuses to bitumen it.
Ah yes the lebo p plater vehicle of choice. In all seriousness when I was in school a year go, half my school car park was filled with Utes driven by p platers and a third of these Utes were hiluxes, although I found that the Ford ranger was more popular at my school
I’ve taken my 2023 rogue off-roading and it comes out better than even my mates new raptor. Great vid and love ripping those huge ramps at westfield parramatta.
In terms of reliability those older diesels can decide to cark it when you don’t change the oil very regularly They also rev 100rpm less than the truly chaddest Toyota diesel, the 1HZ, making the 1HZ the immature P plater weapon of choice.
The main reason its number 1 by far is mines and construction companies buy them in bulk. Reckon there are more Rangers on the city but once you get out to the mining areas its all Hilux
this is rather funny to me. im a mechanic in a toyota workshop here in western australia and the car that comes in the most is the 2020 - 2023 hilux. typically a mining vehicle or police vehicle. all the older hiluxes that come in usually only have small issues like stretched belts or just needs a service haha.
I’ve a a 79, two 76s the new shape(2016 ranger wildtrak), patrol td42 coil cab now I’ve got a 2021 hilux sr5. Spent about 10k on motor. It’s my favourite of all my previous cars. However my first car was a 92 2.8D hilux. I drove that in the ocean and still lasted 500k kms. I’ve been looking at the new ranger raptor but they are selling at 40k above retail drive away prices. 82k drive away. Used 120k average as the wait time is over 12 months.
I always get Hilux and Ranger drivers try to drag race me in my V8 Commodore. I think they miss the old Aussie V8 Ute's so they try and convince themselves that they still have a fast car.
This channel is so good at explaining Australian Things, found you 2 days ago and subbed 2 days ago. Btw you forgot WA Coppa’s with the Hills for the patty wagons
I LOVE the Hilux. Everything about it. I’ve driven it since my Ls. From now, i might get a LandCruiser 79 series, but definitely thinking about keeping it. by the way my favourite Hiluxs are the ones with the tray backs.
We had one on the farm. It rolled down a hill a couple a times and did a few flips, had no windows and the roof was smashed in, no handbrake but she still worked. Damn fine car.
I have driven them many times before, mostly around the city and inner suburbs lol. To do pick ups and drop off's. They rack up hundreds of thousands of km, ans still keep going.
I used to drive a trayback hilux for work and put so much weight in the back that it bent the chassis I also spun out on a dirt road and ploughed it right into a pile of sand out west waited half an hour for someone to come by to pull me out. what vehicle did they pull me out with? you bet yorak hunt it was a hilux never had any problems with it
So which Hilux is better for budget retirement camping life? The V6 or the diesel? For retirement living in countryside Hilux will be the best A-B it travel camper.
Just CapCut at the moment, made the first few videos on my phone but now I make them on the computer using the same app it’s free and works better than iMovie and stuff
People cop it all the time for buying tritons but I personally don’t understand why, they are reasonably priced and kitted out just as well as all the expensive utes, plus the Japanese reliability. It’s a win win in my books
Yeah, the boss at my construction job still keeps his old Hilux whoch has a busted turbo. The thing runs on raw engine power only and is gutless. To make things more fun, he frequently overloads it to the point it can't go up a slight incline in anything less than 2nd gear. I get trucks blasting me when going up the Eastlink tunnel incline, unless I get a nice runup. When loaded with 1000 kgs, it's terrifying to go faster than 60km/h as the tires become pancakes causing it to drift. Still, the damn thing refuses to die.
I have a 1074 Hilux , got for next to nothing spent !2 grand doing the body , nothing on the the engine and transmission original brakes and springs and for for sale for any price 👍👍👍
LOVE the Hilux 👍 Learned to drive in a '98 & then bought a '92. Since I plan to ditch stationery life for life on the road, I'm saving up for an Explorer Motorhome on a Hilux chassis - f*ck'n ain't cheap, but I refuse to buy anything else 👍
Sad I’m like the only kid into four wheel drives all my other friends are into buggatis and lambo and stuff like that but I don’t blame them, those cars are pretty nice too but I think to complex but I did make videos about them because there’s really nice but very complex for sure.
They’re too expensive these days, I see more tradies packed into a paint faded Corolla from 2004 with the suspension on bump stops thanks to all the cement bags in the boot

that shit bugs me because people who actually need those cars for work or live in rough terrain areas are now paying extra because of these people
I call it a free ticket to be a shit driver cause when you drive something as big as a work ute, I gurantee the guy in the yaris is gonna have more of an insurance claim than yours
I know this is a late reply, but they have become so popular because of a law that makes all utes able to carry 1 ton or more tax free
Should've buy a Prius or alike

It’s a beautiful thing
I would say that the random form of the channel, especially in automotive culture, is something crazy.

both are extremely popular, but statistically the hilux is more, the rangers are a bit cheaper though so it attracts more p platers
I think that p plates are an optional extra when you buy a hilux
